Hi Peter. Thanks for very good channel that I got a lot of knowledge about fly fishing. Can you make a video about fly lines you use for small streams and light rod classes like your G. Luis NRX 3wt rod? Thanks in advance

I could, however, there's not a lot of differences in the lines at these light weight classes. The lighter we go, the less significant the taper changes become. As a general rule, the smaller the stream, the shorter we want the front taper to be. There are some newer lines on the market that have slightly more weight shifted into the front half of the belly. Those too make for good small stream lines.
I actually think that leader construction + fly drag become more important considerations in light rod fishing, vs. line taper.

I just put up a video that addresses the taper issues for very light lines. Check it out.

I’m wanting a graphite 3 weight for the small streams/rivers I’ve been fishing. I’m currently using a 3 Weight Fiberglass for Small Streamers (Not 5” Articulated Streamers). How do you think this rod would handle size 6-10 size Buggers and similar flies?

No problem at as long as we avoid the really finely tapered fly lines meant for dry flies. Any line with a taper around 4' or 5' will work just fine.

@@hooked4lifeca I was going to try Scientific Anglers Amplitude. Would the 4 Weight be a better idea for mainly using streamers?

@@Detroit3Pistons Just took a look at the taper and that line should do a great job of tossing small streamers. I think you should be able to fish that combination with confidence. The NRX 3 wt. is a nice combination of finesse and power in a small package.

What reel would you pair with that rod? I just found and purchased that rod. Great channel.
    Thanks

You'll love that rod. I'd go traditional click & pawl - any Hardy or Orvis 3/4 wt. reel would go nicely. I have an Orvis CFO II for mine.

My 3 weight has yet to see freshwater or a trout - it is my first choice for saltwater in the local estuary. UL does not mean "ultra limited" which is what most people think. I have fished in 15-20 knot winds and still able to cast 10-15 yards and catch fish. If you want to see what 3 weights can do in saltwater have a look at this FB site to open your eyes!
