I redrew the shots from the short version to better fit the other vids, added some stuff, changed Jon's wardrobe, etc.)
Thank you for watching! If it's something you're interested in, I use Storyboarder, a free and open source storyboarding program. It's buggy but gets the job done without spending a fortune, while also being bare bones basic enough for me to not get intimidated. As for the actual process, I kinda winged it? Took cues from other animatics and scribbled until I was reasonably satisfied with the result. I have some background in art... but very little of is directly applicable here (I did get a little ~fancier~ in my other vids though). If you do decide to try, remember that perfection isn't the purpose of animatics! Feel free to leave it as rough and sketchy as need be-if anything, it'll contribute to the illusion of motion. With this one I got too caught up in trying to make it as polished as other TMA animatics and wore myself out ^^;
Actual Yugioh Protagonist Gerry Keay. The trouble was finding the right balance of “slender pretty boy” and “brick shithouse” (and terrible dye job but that’s hard to convey in an animatic).
Jon looks like he just crawled out of a dumpster and Gerry looks like the king of Swedish melodic death metal. Perfect.
