- The (long-awaited?) 100 sub special! Thank you all for showing support! This one should have come out months ago, but I was having issues with Storyboarder (because I drew A LOT of slides, as in multiple thousands, plus duplicates of many of them as backup due to bugs), HitFilm Express (couldn't process the ginormous file, kept crashing), and then *Movavi*. I cannot recommend enough that you AVOID Movavi like the plague it is.
So, yeah, if the final product is a little janky, it's because a number of my frames got perma-deleted, then the only progress I could save was covered by a hideous watermark, forcing me to overlay the still images over the video, export the audio and visuals separately because Movavi couldn't handle it.... And that's just the big things that went wrong!
As for future projects, I have nothing planned. This whole process was so exhausting that I scrapped a few ideas I was planning (Why Tim Poops On Company Time, Soldier Poet King ft. Gertrude Jon and Elias, Jonah-centric The Riddle, gen Feed the Machine). I actually am in the process of moving (signing the contract this very day!), finishing up a TMA longfic, and picking my original work back up once the former two items are complete, so it'll be a while before I upload anything else.

its funny how everyone always shows cigarettes and smoking when gerry talks about dying, but he died from a brain tumor unrelated to smoking. just one of those things about his death that make it feel even more random
Can’t speak for anyone else, but that scene was meant as visual metaphor rather than literally portraying his death-the image of a tiny light being extinguished in a puddle. We don’t know the incident that led to him being hospitalized/finding out about the tumor, so I chose to depict it as him getting sudden intense head pain during a stakeout, with the cigarette falling into a puddle when he loses his grip.
I really hope that it turned out John didn’t have to say “I dismiss you” so formally and in That Voice, but it worked as well as a normal “you can go now” would have. So Gerry’s last moment of conscious existence is being on the verge of laughing at something.

@@chaoticblades2382 barely noticed any errors as I was watching (but I know it's different from the perspective of the creator ), so please don't beat yourself down. I can tell that this whole video is the fruit of love and lots of labour, give yourself a pat on the back! : D
@@_nerdysaurus The main thing about the errors is I worry they'll obfuscate deliberate design choices, namely the design of a hypothetical Stranger wherein I deliberately drew the hands on the wrong side. Every time I'd pass that image, I would have to fight down this visceral urge to redraw it, remind myself that that was the point XD;;;

(I am absolutely pretentious about Fear-oriented smut being thematically appropriate, to the point all of my smutfics were written out of pure spite ^^;;;;;;)

Like many others, "Family Business" is one of my favorite episodes. I have never been sure quite how to imagine the book summonings-- the echoes when Gerry talks, and the line "I'm a BOOK." have always made me imagine it as a disembodied voice, but Jonathon's offer for a cigarette made that seem nonsensical to me.
Seeing the words float up off the page and then form into a noncorporeal version of Gerry... that will be the way I imagine it from now on.

I loosely based it on Mary Keay's description of the process in First Edition. She says that the former patient appeared but doesn't elaborate on any unusual aspects to his form, so I figured that meant he looked more-or-less normal. She also doesn't describe any SFX during the summoning... but that would be really boring XD;;;
im losing my mind at the image of Jon in a MARGARITAVILLE shirt. i figured he'd gotten some tacky brown/grey shirt that said the name of the town they were in, but a margariteville shirt is SO much better. galaxy brain on that one
When I tried to think of an outfit that was A) not even slightly Jon's style and B) something Trevor might wear, my mind went IMMEDIATELY to this very real shirt that my dad used to wear all the time XD

Such a hauntingly beautiful goth man, I love your design for Gerry. I love how even though his life was a nightmare and he was abused so much, Gerry never stopped being a genuinely good man. Every time he shows up in a statement, yeah he acts vague and spooky, but he’s always doing what he can to help people. Even when he doesn’t have to.

I dunno if that was the creators' intention? But I just got the vibe that she's a physical person who likes to ignore boundaries to watch people squirm, which Jon does with an uncomfortable flush. Plus she just has this sort of... purr to her timbre.

(The non-German titles are all pr0n-parody titles of episode names/key items, a la "Womb Raider". I suspect I WAS going for "Shag!" as a title, but I drew that so long ago that I don't quite remember ^^;)

This is the perfect spirit of "Magnus Archives is an office comedy where nothing bad ever happens"
This is absolutely insane. I literally don’t know what to say, the insane amount of effort this had to have taken blows me away. Each one of your character designs are unique and really fit each character (in my opinion; especially loved your Jon), but what really gets me is how /expressive/ everyone is, and how unique each person’s body language is to themselves. Gerry’s dramatic hair flips especially, ha- but seriously, you really show off the contrast between the “nonchalant but really done with everything” mood Gerry has, and Jon’s “I’m nervous and also kinda vulnerable here” thing he’s got going on. You could literally see it in their postures- Jon’s hunched over, most of how he expresses is in his face/maybe his arms, while it’s almost like Gerry is straight up moving his whole body for every emotion, ha. Hell, /everyone /moved/ so much: I expected this to be more of a collection of stills (which still would have been impressive, for this length of audio), but holy hell this blurs the line between “animatic” and “low fps animation.” And the bits of color, oh man. I loved stained glass Gerry, that was amazing! And the bits of humor (the skull during Gerry explaining the fears got me!) were unobtrusive but fun.
I could seriously go on about this for awhile, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I returned to this comment to add more of what I liked, but all in all, this is insanely impressive in more ways than just the length, and I really appreciate that you took the time to create a visual representation of this episode. I hope y’all have a wonderful day!
It was so much effort, with every program I used fighting me at every step, which just makes comments like this all the sweeter! Especially since you picked up on the bits that I put the most effort into (i.e. thoughtful character design/expression, TMA's ever-present but understated humor).
I figured out how to adjust color opacity in Storyboarder about a quarter of the way into this and went mad with power XD;;; It wasn't *quite* good enough to get Jon's skintone and Jonah's hair where I wanted them (I headcanon Jon as being in that uncomfortable in-between where he faces colorism from both sides of the equation, Jonah came out much blonder than I wanted), but it did let me indulge my weakness for the vanitas genre ^^;

Oh god. Oh damn. 111 is probably my favorite episode and you go on and do *this*? How dare you push your way into my heart like that. I particularly love the splashes of color for emphasis and the way the owl wraps around jon as he introduces himself as the archivist.
"Don't watch this if you can't handle seeing the episode as described" and then hits you with the :3c face. Absolutely loved it!
This, this is beautiful! I loved your animations of the fear entities as a color wheel. And the eyes at 20:52 and 21:01-03. Just, beautiful. Also Gerry's hair is glorious. And his hands. You've made him so expressive. It's wonderful! And the bits where Jon, and “Jan”, and Jonah, and Gerry displayed their likes, dislikes and hobbies at 3:27 and 6:56 and 12:27, and 32:23!!!! Everything about this is just so so good.
Other especially amazing and notable moments: 1:59 when Gerry comes out of the book, Jon's outfit at 2:22, something about the poses at 2:36 is so nice, the blue of the eyes on Gerry's hands are striking in the best way at 3:03, when Gerry says “I’m a book” at 4:28, 4:34 made me cackle, Gerry’s hands when he says “little apocalypse” at 5:05, “It’s staying dead that sucks” at 5:56, Gerry’s beautiful hair toss at 7:44, Jon’s face at 8:01, Gerry drinking coffee at 8:41 listening to Gertrude, the sequence at 9:20-23, Gerry twirling his hair around his finger at 9:54, Jon’s “Except for the vampires”, Gerry at 10:44, Jon’s eyes at 11:12, Gerry at 19:15 is so pretty with the yellow light of his cigarette, Gerry at 25:42, the cat planet at 29:49, Gerry with a braid to go kill Leitner at 31:30, and finally the really cool “From the Library of Jurgen Leitner” drawing at the end.

22:36 really well picked colors. i was surprised that the stranger is teal when thats an untraditional color for the circus, but it helps fill the wheel better instead of being a 4th red-is thing, and it still looks like a carnaval so it kinda works. over all spot on
That one was tough to settle on! I feel that a lot of people get caught up in individual portrayals of certain fears and lose sight of the forest for the trees, you know? (It’s why I prefer the names of Choke, Viscera, and Beholding to the Buried, the Flesh, and the Eye-conveys the meaning without leading the mind to a specific image.)
Wrt teal, I chose it because it’s one of those colors that doesn’t quite fit into categories (in this case of green or blue). I ultimately went with teal over other such colors because I wanted Beholding to be green, thereby making it a corruption of “knowing” and thereby of familiarity.
