Sir, how do you manage the beautiful fish pond during the winter season? Does the water freeze and the fish perish?
I am grying to build a water pond in a rural alpine area in Australia where the winter temperatures goes down to minus 15 degrees Celsius, and the main water pipes burst if you are not careful.

The opening shot with the single large Showa swimming is amazing, well done with that.
One of the things that all the ponds in this series have in common is the very high number of fish. They are all well overstocked by conventional standards.
One of the things I have noticed about this is how happy the fish seem, they are always swimming and changing directions and everything seems interesting to them. We are just looking at a small video of this, and I am not sure if you are just showing the best of things? I would like to know what you think of this, are the fish happier with more fish in the pond?

Hi Gareth, thanks for reaching out! I think there are several reasons. First of all koi are social animals, so in this case I do think Koi are more happy when they are with more. Second is the quality of the water. good filtration is so important and also the rate of refreshing every week or day. When you know what your filtration system can handle you are able to add more koi.

These koi look so happy. I've noticed that all the $$ ponds I have seen don't have plants on the surface. I thought that koi need shade?
Only in countries where the climate is hot and have many sun hours yearly. :) Good question tho!
