My uncle had this done at his house back in the 90's, he had two large tunnels and a massive pond in the garden, the fish swam round the entire living room back into the garden. The whole system was made with blue stone and granite. The way he had the filter system is to flow around the living room. The Koi loved the way it had a flow like a slow river, they were always doing laps around the whole system just to be taken for a ride on the slow current.

@@carolinegamblecg I write this for you and other people in future who may have questions of this set up: Would all depend on what size fish you have and pond size and power of filtration. I would not go less then 3 feet in diameter just so the fish do not get spooked by a small gap. so I would say go large as possible. My uncle did not use pipe, he had his made out of bricks with a cover of sealing cement to seal the water in. It was basically a bricked trench going all around the inside wall of the house and back out to the pond. The pond use to be a porch swimming pool. The pond and trench going into house was level with one another, and a pane of glass was used to seal the outside air coming in from the top surface of water at the wall. The water was also heated so it would never go below a certain temperature in winter and make indoors cold.
Over 40 years ago my cousin was engaged to a fellow, his parents had an indoor /outdoor Koi pond. The indoor pond was in their living room which caused some problems with high humidity. It was an amazing sight for a kid from the city who, until then, had only seen gold fish in bowls. I thought a fish tank with filtration was a big deal..... lol

I have seen that before, about Twenty Five years ago I watched a house renovation program.
As the owners were adding an extension to their Kitchen they built the foundation with an opening so the fish can swim right under the Glass floor in the Kitchen.
That is a very beautiful Goi Pond, the only thing I would do different is I would have a Waterfall on that Pond.
In ground Ponds are my favourite.

Great video, lovely pond, garden and filtration system. You didn't mention if the pond is heated? Do all the koi try to go inside when the temperature drops and does Simon cover the outside pond in the winter? I understand if you haven't time to reply but it would be interesting to know. I have always the time to reply to my viewers 😉 Not sure if the pond is heated in wintertime. I think the big advantage is that the water will heat up inside during the winter. Or it will cool down the house, also a possibility 😂

how to tell from young its a jumbo koi ? one of reason i dont like cave or tunnel in pond , because there is a chance a sick koi might die inside it
I think it works fine, the Koi have enough space to pass each other.
The only Kohaku koi I have is from Animal Crossing!

Maybe a stupid question, but how does this work during winter? Does he close it and leave them all outside? Or doesn’t the indoor pond affect their hibernation?

Some how this owner managed to prevent his koi pond becoming a heron's breakfast table.
Not sure if it’s good to see on the drone footage but he actually used fish line over his pond to keep those bastard out 😜
@@TheKoiPartner didn't see that, but he should. Koi are about the easest prey for herons, they are big, slow and flashy.
I saw another video about koi in Singapore, there a family of otters discovered they were easy buffet. The otters made up residence in the city and not the least shy.
I think they were not deterded by fish line either.
I bought a 18cm Tosai Asagi, breeder Yamazaki, January 2021, it's now 40cm, it had minimal orange/red markings on purchase as that was the correct way to buy following all advice but now it's lost it all, do I need to be patient or do you think it won't come back?
that is amazing growth! Yes, always be patient with Asagi. The orange will come back later and very strong!
@@TheKoiPartner Thanks, I'm really hoping it does (I paid a fair amount for it considering size), the black fish net pattern and blue scales look fantastic so it will be a real pity if it doesn't. And yes I was amazed by the growth, I had it in a 2000Ltr grow on tank at 24c until the beginning of the month, it's now in my main pond at 20c, which I raise to 24c in spring.

In the UK most people use pond liners or fibreglass, is it the same in Europe or do they use concrete with waterproof paint or something else? Thanks
Hi Marcia, good question! It depends. In Holland most people use liners but in other countries they prefer also concrete. I think people are choosing the most liable option compared to the environment. But I do think it’s even between the UK and Europe. Anyway, thanks for your great question. 😃
