    I cut and make jewellery out of many random stones, but man I need to get some of these. I've heard of yoopralite (from the great lakes region), but nothing about the stones your using. How many more stones shine under UV, I think all rock hounds should carry a UV light on them. I feel this is something that needs way more research. Keep up the good work dude.

    Hey meMiner, I’ve been to the same zinc mine in Ontario twice before, once in 2012 and another time in 2018. Good on you for keeping the name to yourself and protecting it from the masses. Interesting you were told not to record video, I’ve recorded video myself with the owner present. That mine does have molybdenite (muh-lib-den-ite), which looks very similar to graphite, but with a very very slight twinge of purple. I don’t think the sphalerite from there should fluoresce at all, from the video I think it might be reflection from the UV light- but I could be wrong on that. The yellow fluorescent specks are chondrodite, which should also be a pale yellow themselves when you look at them in visible light. The blue specks are diopside. The red matrix is calcite; the host rock is a marble. And the blue streaks, what some people call lightning bolts, are aragonite. It is fun to see the little pieces of pyrite embedded in the rock, and some of them can have some pretty interesting shapes.
    I know some people in the fluorescent mineral hobby who say the rocks from this locality aren’t much, aren’t that cool. And while I will admit, as a mineralogist this locality is not the most exciting, the rocks are positively beautiful under UV light. Just because they aren’t bright doesn’t mean they are less beautiful. Thanks for showing their beauty to a broad audience!

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I also met the owner, but the restriction may have been from the club I was with. If the rules are clear, I am happy to respect them. For sure, they don't need to be overrun with people trespassing.

      I took one rock from the mine which was maybe 1.5 foot round which had some nice colour. I have no idea how I will slab it. There were larger rocks, but good luck picking them up.

    Ok. What you have just demonstrated is instructive, and reveals an elaborate technique, a lot of experience and knowledge in geology, chemistry … which is not within the reach of many who follow you. By cons I would like to see you show us a tutorial to clean the stones of AGATE, I think it is less sophisticated than what you have just taught us. In addition this tutorial will be of great use for lovers of AGATE, I am sure there are many. Thank you in advance for this, and for all that you bring us through your channel. Take care of yourself and your loved ones

    There are stones on the shores of the great lakes that fluoresce, some very large, nothing pretty to look at until UV then pretty bright some of them.
    Great video

      Lake Michigan for sure. I have looked along Lake Ontario by Oshawa and nothing was fluorescent except man made stuff. Still, it would be fun to try other places.

      @Symon's jaspers & Agates cut and polish thanks for the story, you must have been bored. Here in the states we have several different kinds of them. The little reds will bit the balls off the larger blacks so the can't breed. We also have grays that are bigger than the blacks and the fox squirrels are the largest of all so they do what they want.

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great story about the squirrels! I almost thought it was about the Scots invading from the north, but they don't drop their nuts unless of course they freeze off under the kilts. LOL. I will try to capture our little red squirrels sometime on camera. They are half the size of the black or grey squirrels and win every time.

    • @sleepylogic1647
      @sleepylogic1647 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think I have seen a fox squirrel. However, I have had flying squirrels land on me at night. If you want to get freaked out, have one in the dark forest jump on your head or shoulder and then run down your body.

    I have just a regular black light, and the one's that have iron in them or red fluorite glows a light blue, that yellow I don't know what that is, but they are so beautiful.
    I really enjoyed this video, it made me laugh at some parts.
    I hope it's not too cold up there for you, and we down South are still running our A.C's, well at least your tumbler didn't freeze this time. I hope you and your family have a great day, and may they be blessed too. Cya
