I loved mine. Fast, comfortable, huge inside. Only problem was garage bills. Want to change spark plugs? Remove engine. Starter motor problem? Remove engine….you get the picture.

Your mechanic obviously scammed you😂. I experienced the same, with the old Citroën marketing lie about being sooo advanced and special, that it required special tools and real specialists. - And the I bought a haynes cx book and realized how simple it was and absolutely no "special" Citroën tools were required. The hydraulic system is more or less as a normal break system in a car. I had a clonk coming from the back when driving over bumps. I went to a Citroën garage and were scammed for an extreme fortune, - and the problem continued. Then I found an old Citroën mechanic that owned the same cx himself. He took a look at it, tightened a bolt on a stabililizer stag and the problem was solved. He did it without charge.
It was after that, I bought a Haynes CX mechanic book and started doing everything myself, except for electricity. The electricity is a particularly problem with ALL french cars. After a lot of trouble, I sent it to a specialized Bosch auto electric and had ALL wiring replaced and rearranged neatly, as only the most germanic can do. After that, NOT a single issue the following 200.000 km (125k miles). Authorized Citroën garages in Europe consequently scammed people, because the buyers of these cars were generally academics, with no mechanical clue whatsoever.
They aren't as complicated as rumored AT ALL. That didn't start untill the electronics of the XM hydropneumatics.

Could comfortably remove my sparks and starter without removing the engine. The garages you went to ripped you off. You need to remove the face to do the starter though. I've owned 3 CXs, 2 Prestiges snd an 89 CX GTi Turbo II.

luxurious car mean luxurious bills. Once you proved you can pay for a fancy car, your are doomed to pay large garage bills, wherever you go.

@@HunterSteel29 I was on soft ground so couldn’t get underneath it. Obv the suspension could lift the car well above ground but for it to work the engine needs to be working requiring the starter motor…🤦🏻‍♂️

I owned the 2,2 gas 86 model. I made my own tool for the car so that I could repair it myself. I still wonder why the seats were so soft. After all, the car itself was very comfortable, so the soft seats were not needed.
I would have kept it, but I changed to the xm because it had five doors. But the XM doesn't have the same outstanding Citroën soul like the cx.

I have always had a soft spot for the elegant looks of the CX, but these days when I can afford one I’m afraid of owning a +35 year old car.

If it is intended as a sunny day car, limited use, go for it. I have a CX, love it, and, I've just bought my dream car of 40 yrs, a 1973 SM. As I'm in England, European spec.
