Pazuzu is a real Sumerian demon. However, contrary to modern interpretations, he was actually pretty chill. Being a super ugly demon, the Sumerians would use his ugly face to scare away other demons. In fact, it was fairly common practice to put a necklace with a carving of his face on infants, so that the more dangerous demons that stole children would be frightened.
As Peter said, just watched little hope and more often then not I would have totally missed the QuickTime events was to sucked into the scene especially the heartbeat things
QTEs are the worst! I play mostly on PC, and whenever I'm console gaming, I don't remember any of the buttons. I'm like an elderly person who never learned to type on a keyboard, constantly looking down at the controller.
FINALLY someone who picked up on context clues! Jason literally saying "You're killing him." And the Riddles bros paid attention and didn't suffocate Merwin! Great Job!
I think button prompts have an aire of Authority, so while the characters, pawns of the game, say he can't breath, people trust that the tried and true button prompt can't be wrong and unless given another option, is the only thing you can do. I really like this about these games, which are hardly games but another thing entirely. That sometimes you aren't meant to press a button, whether it's both lines of dialogue being rude/confrontational or accidentally suffocating a man in the heat of the moment. I mean, how many times in our 'training' as gamers are you not supposed to press the button, even if it is the wrong thing to do and you know this the story demands you press it, as the failure that they deceitfully lay the blame of at your hands, is an important part of the story you can't avoid with sense or hindsight, if that is, you wish to continue playing. The game demands of you to sometimes do something humans, even the best intentioned of us, have an issue with doing. Nothing.

Even as gamers who are conditioned to always "do something" or have issues with doing nothing, we should already know what we're getting into as this isn't the first rodeo for most of these people playing this game. Most if not everyone who is playing House of Ashes have played the other games including Until Dawn already. So in my opinion there is no excuses to overlook gameplay mechanics, and should not fault the game if someone has an issue with doing nothing and completely ignores the option of doing nothing when they are aware it is an option. An example, this other playthrough I watched, this guy has been gaming since the 80s. At the beginning where you have the choice to throw the spear to kill the girl or not, he chose to not throw the spear. He knows doing nothing is an option. He also picked up on the context clues with Merwin and also figured out to do nothing. A true gamer would be aware you sometimes need to adapt to different genres of games. You simply can't play every game the same way.

The way Simon called out that girl having her back to the darkness and Tom predicting Jason would ask about the lighter just goes to show how good these guys are at these games.
Something I love about the riddle bros, no matter how dire the circumstances, no matter how stressful continuing on will be, no matter how horrifyingly against them the odds of success, they can still spot a peepus from a mile away. If every riddles solution was at the tip of a statues dingus, these two would rival Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson.
History nerd time: Akkad IS covered under rock and earth somewhere. We have yet to find it after all this time. It wasn't until like 1850 that we found Uruk, which was the largest city in history (by a landslide) for the time and existed nearly a thousand years before Akkad was the center of the universe. It's highly likely that it's somewhere in the vicinity of the location they chose for this game. The historicity of the game is pretty good despite its many, many other flaws. _Eyes loll back and forth_

The surface is constantly shifting down and the earth below is constantly shifting up. Add to that erosion and collapse of buildings, and the process can happen in a few thousand years.

I know this isn't the only factor, but Iraq borders and partially covers a tectonic plate called the Arabian Plate. This is a particularly small plate, covering a portion of the Near East (compare to the African Plate which covers ALL of Africa). Areas around plate boundaries are more prone to seismic activity like earthquakes. Even small earthquakes can cause that surface-down, earth-up effect I was talking about. So, my educated guess, yes, Akkad would be more likely to slip under the ground than, say, the same city in Greenland. There's actually a rock formation in Greenland called the Isua Greenstone Belt that's 4 billion years old!
I've only got a passing understanding of Sumeria and those eras in the middle east but credit to them, it seems like the devs have really done some research on the area. Nippur is a proper city, archaelogoical site located in Iraq, theres proper deities of the time. I'm really impressed, so far its way better than Little Hope.
I'm also pleasantly surprised at how they have handled culture in this game. I'm actually learning about stuff I didn't know. Also, props are due for using actual Arabic voices instead of the typical English with an accent (although it would be more impressive had they used Iraqi voice actors rather than Egyptian ones, seeing as the setting is in Iraq and all the Arabic spoken is Egyptian dialect).
Sand piling up and eventually compressing into sandstone. Landslides or flooding shifting rock over it. Typically though, this whole thing would be completely filled up with compact sand -- maybe a couple of small chambers would exist. A lot of these structures were also carved into the rockface, like Petra, where only the entrance area is outside.
Tom got like 100% of QTEs in Little Hope and Medan (after switching controllers) but he's already beansed a tonne here. Kinda worried, this is the first Dark Pictures game I've actually wanted the characters to survive lol.
Interesting that Merwin is their favorite character, while in the other playthrough of this game I'm watching, the players hated that guy so much they were actively trying to get him killed. lol
Commenting this again for a higher chance of Tom seeing this. Two game suggestions for you to play Tom! 1. Inscryption. It's a deck building rougelike game similar to slay the spire with horror elements. Seems like something youd love. 2. Call of the Sea. Its a puzzle adventure game with some lovecraftian-like elements and beautiful environments. Again, something i think you'd enjoy :)

This game reminds me a lot of one of the later chapters of Eternal Darkness, a fantastic horror game. I wouldn't mind seeing Tom play it sometime, but it is an older game, and I don't think the Yogscast are particularly in the business of playing old games.

gotta admit... wasn't feeling this game at first and figured it'd be another letdown like the other games after until dawn but now i'm starting to get more into it... the interactions, dialogues and atmosphere are all getting real good... hopefully it doesn't disappoint

Commented something simular on a previous episode of this. From the response I got, the developers used the same actors in all three anthology games. However, it seems they are changing up exposure to who gets the 'main roles', from the looks of things.
Merwin’s the mayor or whatever from the last one right? But yeah, mocap is much more convincing when they share features with the actors, and it potentially helps advertise the actors more.
