    Important addendum to one of my guidelines: Singleton is a very good option if you're keeping your cube smaller! It helps keep up variety when you're low on cards.

      @lm7586 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In mtg I'm pretty sure all cubes are singleton. Having multiple copies isn't necessary.

      @colaocha1115 ปีที่แล้ว

      Another option is to lower the minimum deck size, this allows you to have fewer cards per player in the cube. So you only need about 1.5*(total deck size)*(number of players). Then draft packs with half the deck size.
      I find putting extra deck cards in with the main deck cards gives an interesting push-pull to drafting, though if you have different coloured sleeves for each, it will be public knowledge whether you're taking an extra deck card.
      Also having some "Basics" can allow you to put certain strategies in your cube, like giving every player access to polymerisation, Renewal of the World (or the attribute rituals, or a custom generic ritual), or even vanilla extra deck monsters, can make certain strategies a lot more viable to draft.

      I manage my 3500+ card yugioh singleton cube by keeping monsters, spells, and traps separate and drafting them in 5 packs of 6 monsters, 3 spells, and 3 traps each. This method also makes sure that no matter how many new cards are added, I don't have to care about the monster/spell/trap ratios in the cube. Honestly, it's insanely fun and it makes sure that every draft is vastly different. My cube is so massive, it's like multiple cubes in one, or a tesseract, if you will.

      So for the most part I did this with my cube though if a card is has stuff to build around so there are 3 polymerization and 3 manju

      Definitely more to come on that! I have a grand tour of my Edison cube coming, and I hope that can give some insight into how to use card ratios to make a dynamic experience with cubes that focus on the Extra Deck.

    A speed duel cube with skills mixed in with the extra deck pack seems like it would be really good. 20 card minimum decks means the draft portion would probably go a lot faster which I always find is a problem when trying to organize a draft. Plus you can make some really unique formats by bringing in more modern cards to the cube, or importing duel links skills

    I actually love to play a rpg-deck building-progression version of a cube with my friends. We start with really small decks and start playing super quick games, earning rewards and trading cards we already have with the cube (return 3, draw 1 random for example). It's quite fun tbh

    I have been playing Yugioh Cube for years now and one of the biggest pieces of advice I have for anyone starting out is to not bloat it. Recently a friend said that I can take anything from their bulk for the cube and in those 10k cards I found some really cool things. The Cube ended up being 250 cards bigger than before and not only did drafting take much longer because of this but it resulted in much less balanced gameplay which led to some people having the time of their life and others getting absolutely shit on

      i try to make it so that all cards are drafted/used every time. Three packs of 20 for a total of 60 cards in a players pool sounds good.

    Don't knock the singleton, MTG style cube. They don't always devolve into goodstuff piles. Properly built, you instead try to build a certain strategy out of disparate cards. A card like Flame Tiger can serve roles in both R4 strats and tribute strats, or discard it with Blaster to pop something. Finding synergies like this is why I love cube.

    • @JakeLT64

    I personally have a singleton cube, it’s 540 cards, and the only special rule I have is that the text on the card is the errata we’re using. So we have pre errata cards in the cube that work like in their heyday. I honestly believe in the rule that cube SHOULD be singleton because of the commander style variety it gives in each game avoiding synergies like tri beast. I feel like the raw skill of a player able to manage resources is shown greater when the game is simplified to card to card interactions. And every game being different makes it so much fun. But I also like cubes w a bit more focus to them, like what you’ve talked about!

    I actually came up with an alternative variation of the cube draft which is more along the lines of deck building pack like Amazing Defenders completely by accident without even knowing what cube draft was and is more inspired by the Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel secret packs as well as Yu-Gi-Oh! Worldwide Edition Stairway to the Destined Duel postgame deckbuilding challenges on the GBA.

  • @Sleepy0173
    @Sleepy0173 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't really have a group to do this with, but I've had this idea of making a draft with the many good stuff filler cards that have been coming out in packs. To name some samples:
    -"Setuppercut" is like a generic version of "HERO Signal", "Soul Scissors" revives itself and pops a monster, and can be used offensively with its trigger.
    -Then there's this sort of loop of Zombies where "Daidara-Bocchi" is a single-Tribute 2900 ATK beater, gets protected by reviving "Alghoul Mazera", which in turn can have "Mad Mauler" revive itself, and if some of them get taken down you can re-install Bocchi (through Normal Summoning it again xD) since it salvages itself.
    -Or using "Zuttomozaurus" to destroy your own copy of "Blast with Chain" or "Big Bang Shot" (having this last one equipped to an opponent monster).
    On the side of cubes with custom rules, I've been theorizing a rule of having a Tribute Summon per turn naturally (in addition to your regular Normal Summon) to improve upon Tribute mechanics and make Normal Summons a bit more normal.
    And depending on the pacing of the cube's gameplay, have the draw phase give you 2 cards instead of 1 (I guess these are basically "Morganite" but in rule forms now that I think about it).
    ^This is based on the sentiment that Rush Duels has the right idea to streamline the pace of the game with simple cards, but a bit too strongly implemented, so this is a more soft version of that where it doesn't really turbo you 5 draws and all the summons right there.... just a little push.
    I'd aim for a power curb similar to between Edison and Tengu Plant (the "Agents can sit on Gachi Gachi" kind of pace) INDEPENDENTLY of the mechanics it allows (I love my Synchro era but I also love enough Xyz good stuffs like Acid Golem or regular Utopia, and some generic-ish Fusions too, so I'd play around with all that stuff).

    This format seems great! My first thought is a flip-based cube with the extra rules of no HOPT and monsters being able to change battle positions on the turn they're special summoned. Wish I had a single friend who played the game to test it with though :)

  • @lit_wick

    I ran a draft of an Edison cube I made similar to this one. At the most recent draft, some players that have played it three times now suggested I build a new cube. They got my brother in law into "waifu" cards that night. So now, they have me building a waifu cube oh lord.
    Lots of dark magician, familiar possessed, and tour guide + waifu targets, etc. There's a lady laments that searches normal traps so I'm basing the cube around battle phase, with cards like Saku and magic cylinder. Adding battle faders, those magician ladies who act as hand traps, dark honest, etc.
    Since the Edison cube doesn't have modern mechanics, this cube has links and hand traps. By playing both drafts, you learn most Summoning mechanics over a couple nights.

    I didn't even know about this trend when I built my 3500+ card singleton cube about a month ago. As an MTG player Cube drafts are quite fun. Actually had a friend that for years keep an old Yu-Gi-Oh cube together because of how fun it can be. As a side note going with all the other ways there are to draft cards in a cube can be quite interesting as well if you're willing to take the time to learn about them. 1 quick note, do remember that when drafting to draft your cards face down.

    Basing a cube on interacting with Attributes (FIRE, EARTH, WIND, WATER) is a neat theme, using the BP3 rule as bit of a crutch. Allowing cards that support 'ATTRIBUTE + Type' to just support the Attribute. Mix in some general attribute interacting cards like 'Battle of the Elements', and the 'Cataclysmic' monsters as an example.

    Time for a paragraph nobody should read about my passion for my cube and how I built it.
    I built a Yu-Gi-Oh! Power Cube like 4 years ago and still update it to this day with new set releases. It's the reason I can say that I'm one of the few people that has ever read EVERY Yu-Gi-Oh! card... it was really exhausting. But it was built to be drafted a certain way, based around the first Magic Cube I had ever played. Where instead of being completely mixed up, everything is separated, the piles being one for each main deck monster attribute, spells, traps, then one for each extra deck type. There's 48 of each Attribute, 96 Spells, 96 Traps, 24 Fusions, 24 Synchros, 24 XYZs, and 48 Links, with Polly being in a separate pile where everyone can grab 3 (the pieces of Exodia also chill over there for if you draft the head... my friends would kill me if I ever removed it). With this amount if you deal into packs 1 card from every pile of 24, 2 from every pile of 48, and 4 from each 96, there is exactly enough cards to draft 8 players if you choose. But no, since POTE released in the TCG it's become pretty much the only way I play the game now. Having 3 near T0 formats back to back to back just after one of the most diverse formats I've ever seen (The month and a half after Duelists from the Deep dropped) really killed any passion I had at the time. We play it as a 4 player free for all these days with double LP, but also double burn damage and LP cost. The cube has been good to me, lol.
    Also... Singleton is definitely the most common way to build a cube, so your comment is interesting. Idk, filled my cube with the best generic cards for each attribute while also giving each attribute two typings they'd want to play if they choose (i.e. while there's both generic cards and generic Fire support cards in the Fire attribute, I also have a handful of cards for Fire Warrior, and a handful for Pyro)

    As soon as my limited loving brain found out about the new cube draft features on ygoprodeck, two cube ideas came to mind.
    One is kind of a meme that me and a friend just put together super late cause it sounded funny, that being a Blackwing Tribal Cube with every card in the archetype at varying quantities, adding in some thematically relaxant support and decent generic cards to hopefully make for a playable pile of funny birds.
    The other is a GX Era cube which could incorporate a bunch of more low powered archetypes from the time that I think could work together. Currently theorizing on adding in Dinosaurs, Counter Fairies, Normal E-Heroes, all tied together with incidental Normal Monster and Banish engine synergy. Unsure how to fully balance it all properly atm but it's been way too much fun coming up with ideas.

      NOW we're talking! I think a Junior cube would be heavier on monsters than other cubes. You'd want to look for cool things probably from 2012/2013/2014 since those are the years that have had the most diverse metas. Also the 2009 Kurazy Town deck (which I think I played in the episode) is a great place to look for inspiration. I bet the Junior Discord would have great ideas too!

    I've been playing my YU-GI-OH Cube for about the last 9 months. We currently use the battle pack all monsters are all types rule, old school field spell rulings and play stuff pre-eratta, mostly singleton.
    We also have a mulligan system to make hands a little more consistent. Either draw 7 keep best 5, or draw 5 with a choice of one mulligan (but you have to keep the new hand).
    It's been super fun jamming Goat staples to around 2015ish Yu-Gi-Oh.
    Currently it doesn't have an extra deck but I'm considering adding a small section of synchros and generic XYZs.
    My favorite things are having Multiple cards in a single pick such as 3 OG gadgets, or both ice & fire hand.
    Current favourite decks are the diamond dude convulsion of nature control deck with watch dog/cat and recycle/card shuffle.
    That, or ultimate offering spirits, or occasionally Ben Kai/mataza the Zappa/Maha vailo equipment OTK.

    • @Zenondikar
      @Zenondikar ปีที่แล้ว

      We also currently do 4 packs of 15 cards each, which gives you a 40 card deck with a 20 card sideboard.
      Depending on if you have a smaller number of players drafting, I'd recommend doing more packs with less cards, say 6 packs of 10 cards or 12 packs of 5.
      It smooths out the picks, and makes sure there isn't the same cards going round multiple times.
      Definitely worth playing around with these numbers!
      Drafting the cube as a 1v1 format is fun too.
      Essentially you take around 150ish cards, then you line them face up, 9 at a time, in a 3x3 grid.
      Players alternate choosing any one vertical or horizontal line of cards to draft, then make a new grid.
      Everything is open information so you can have a lot of fun with the drafting mind games with this one!

    I'd highly recommend the Monster League rule for virtually any cubes. There are countless bulk commons that will never see play because of strange monster typing that can really shine in a cube. Also, if you're looking to REALLY maximize the battle phase, look into some alt rules that actually make use of the DEF stat by introducing an MTG-like block mechanic into your cubes.

  • @skittezraine
    @skittezraine ปีที่แล้ว

    I highly recommend the generic material rule for the extra deck, especially for Fusion monsters. It makes DM and GX era based drafts very interesting as the only reasonable way people were getting out fusions during these eras in TCG was metamorph or scientist (or future fusion with cyber dragon fusions).

    there are a few cubes I can think of for sure like perhaps a deep sea cube or maybe an anime protagonist cube....with rules like starting at 4000 LP or maybe summoning a monster burns you for 100 times its level/rank (don't know if that's the kind of rules I can implement but I think it could be an interesting strat). I over the years have come up with so many different rules and such that alter the way my friends and I played quite a bit and it was always a good time so I look forward to the type of stuff the cube could introduce

    See this is what I get to do for MTG week in and week out. I am excited to see how the innovative Yu-Gi-Oh community utilizes this idea. I think a fun rule is the "Draft me get [card whose name is listed in text] like for example Umi would be a fun way to handle certain cards. Also MTG has something that Yu-Gi-Oh does not have which is functional reprints. This I think is why MTG i best as singleton. Also I think that what would be fun is Draft Matters cards like Cogwork Librarian would be fun. (Cogwork Librarian allows for you to take an extra card out of one pack by putting it back in the pack) This I think would be fun and make drafting an archetype more achievable.

      Oh damn I love the idea of a placeholder card, like a few 1900 vanillas that you can trade in for another card as you draft.

    This sounds so cool. I'm trying to think about the logistic aspect of the cube though. Like, I suppose every player has to bring their own sleeves, and I imagine it might be better for a single person to prepare the cube with their own cards, to avoid having to redistribute every single card to their owner after we're done playing.

    • @ee822
      @ee822 ปีที่แล้ว

      It looks to be better for the maker of the cube to have all the cards already sleeved. If you plan on hosting multiple cube drafts with one cube, that's a lot of wear and tear on the cards in both the draft and game phases.

    Singleton is the best imo. If you want "synergy" as you say, just play actual Edison format or current format. Singleton with monster league type rule still allows some fast games. Being able to add "The cuckoo commanded to croon" to my cube is great.

    I want to build a cube based entirely around EARTH monsters
    Note: How many copies of a single card do you think would be good to include in a cube like that?

    • @TheRJB0
      @TheRJB0  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds rad! How many of each card you add really depends on the card and how modern a format you're going for. Things like Giant Rat that can float are always good to fill up on. It's good to ask yourself how many of that card do you want each player to have access to in each draft? In the Edison Cube I think we have 4 or 5 of each recruiter, since we want a lot of recruiters floating around even if we get 8 players.

    how do you build your cube with the banlist ? for example in Edison a card like Brain Control is limited. So how many copies do you include in the cube ? One, two, three ? And I guess you need to determine a certain banlist to follow (I mean, mostly a "limited list" because no card gets banned if it is available in the cube). For example if you have already picked up a Brain Control in your first pack and get to see another one in your second pack, you cannot pick it, or if you do you will still only be able to play one of them but not both
    What do you think of it ?

    • @TheRJB0
      @TheRJB0  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Edison Cube is so minimalistic in its rules it doesn't have any F&L list. I think we have 3 Brain Cons and like 5 Call of the Haunted, and if you get more than 3 of something congrats! You get to run all of them. I think there are at least 6 Volcanic Shells.

    • @TheRJB0

      The idea of the Edison Cube isn't to make a 1 for 1 copy of Edison Format, but to make decks that match the flow and power level of Edison decks.

    On average how many of each card do you like to have in a cube? Say for example I have torrential tribute in, do I just put one play set in or would you recommend more?

    • @TheRJB0
      @TheRJB0  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ooh! That's a big question. Definitely worth a video of its own, because it's a complicated one! I hope my explanation of my Edison Cube coming out soon gives some insight into it for you. Meanwhile the relatively short answer is that with staple cards it's mostly about how many you'd like in an average deck. The Edison Cube has 3 Torrential, because A. It's huge, and B. I wanted players to have 0-1 copy each. Also worth considering: how disastrous would it be if one player got more or even all of the copies?
