      Hey JWittz, long time fan here. I know you might be loaded on video ideas, but when you have the time I'd love to see your take on both the new Digimon TCG and the Disney Villainous Board Game. I think you would really love the interaction of Villainous especially, with everybody trying to achieve their own goals while fateing each other to stop people in the lead. Plus there's definitely enough content (especially with Villainous's 3 expansion) for a well lengthen video. Just food for thought

    • @bunbundestroyerofworldslor3512
      @bunbundestroyerofworldslor3512 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      You might not be interested how draft works, but if you are I have written what it is and how it works bellow.
      Drafting is a tcg format where you get together with 4-8 friends open packs, and build decks out of only those packs. It can range from being a really casual to a competitive format depending on the group and location(conventions and gameshops are generally more competitive).
      Everyone gets 3 Boosterpacks with 15 cards in it and you sit together at a big table.
      Then everyone opens a booster and picks 1 card that they are going to keep. They then hand the booster (with now 14 Cards in it) clockwise to their neighbor. Then they repeat that untill all the cards of the first boosterpack are gone.
      The second batch of boosterpacks follow the same process, but the boosters get handed counterclock wise around the table.
      And the third and final boosters are again handed clockwise around the table.
      Now you have pool of 45 cards that you drafted that you use to build your 40 card deck. Energy cards (or in magic basic lands) are provided from outside of the boosters and you have an unlimited amount.
      Now you just shuffle up and play with your friends.

    I made a Little Cube (like the video game's Little Cup) where you only play with Basic Pokemon that have a base HP of 90 or below. Because of the lower health pools and damage outputs, super effective attacks are way more powerful which makes type advantage more relevant. Because I also set up an Energy Battery mechanic (energy is per Trainer, not per Pokemon), it's a lot easier to have cool multitype decks. Everyone who's tried it really enjoyed it, and I'm super proud of it!

    I'm gonna do a variant of Cube Drafting with my bulk cards from boosters I've been opening. Gonna add a rule that you roll dice to determine which Energy Types you get for the tournament and from there you'd get your cube of Pokemon for that specified typing. Normal and Dragon type Pokemon and Trainer cards would be in community cube piles. I like the dice roll to pick what type you use to sort of limit and force players to maybe approach things in a way they wouldn't normally.

    I always figured the Build and Battle boxes were the PTCG's equivalent to drafting. You get a few playable lines from a medium sized pool, some staple trainers, and then a few boosters that could augment it. I know it's not the same as they're technically framed as prerelease tournaments but still, I've done some and they're pretty playable, if not as inherently exciting as proper drafts.
    But this sounds SUPER COOL and I would totally love to try it. Holy moly.

  • @RocketJo86
    @RocketJo86 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I actually like drafts more than normal booster formats. You got far more control over the cards you get and thus make it easier to come up with a functional deck and strategy. But you have to think outside of the normal competitive way to do it to the fullest, especially in Pokémon (and especially if you don'T play mutant). I got lots of my best placements in Pokemon TCG from draft tournaments. The only big roblem is when you open your last booster, spot a rare card and have to think of keeping that card for your collection (or as an investment) or choose one more common option to fit your deck and strategy *lol*

    One of the most fun limited formats I have played in a long time was Magic's JumpStart format. That is something I think Pokemon should try as a product as well.
    For those unfamiliar, JumpStart was a set where rather that packs being mostly randomized, they were all themed and had small variations among the same themes, but which theme you got was a secret. So each player takes 2 packs (each pack being 20 cards including lands, Magic's equivalent to energy) and puts them together, and that is their deck to play with.
    While not as strategic as normal drafting, it could easily solve the evolution issue that this video discussed at the start.

Not having anyone to play with, the massive money sink that they can be, and just how overwhelming these games can be. With tons of cards and strategies and changing rules it feels like a lot. Considering trying a video game tcg (one without tons of micro transactions) maybe I'll get it into it someday. Either way, I found this video to be really interesting. Keep up the good work!

    My friend and I used to play Pokemon in the Highlander variant from Magic. 100 card deck, Singleton, and any card from throughout the game's history. Cards obviously use newest errata, so Bill is a Supporter, and cards like Itemfinder are Ace Spec. You get some really cool interactions with evolution lines and with the amount of powerful draw and search you have access to it is pretty easy to have consistency. Think about all the Oak effects that have been printed (and you can use them all since they have different names). You get to play cool cards like Challenge! too.

    I have my own pauper cube in MTG and I find that by far, it's the most interesting way to play Magic. Cube in Pokemon seems really difficult to assemble. Cubes are REALLY difficult to balance and it takes a lot of practice and play to figure out what you need to take out and what your cube needs. Mutant seems like a fun way to pack draft and probably the way I'd try to play draft with Pokemon.

    I came up with a cube draft format with my friends a while ago.
    We lined up 200 Pokemon 60 trainers and 40 supporters. The Pokemon had hps between 70-100, and the gold standard damage of 20+15 per energy required, ie 30 for 1, 50 for 2 or 60 for 3. They were also treated as basics even if they wouldn't normally be.
    Drafted Pokemon, trainers, and supporters seperately, and treated Pokemon as both Pokemon and energy. A grass Pokemon, for example can also be attached as grass energy. Similarly, energy search doubles as Pokemon search, and vice versa, giving a good amount of consistency despite our lacking trainer lineups.
    I have had more fun in this draft format than I've ever had playing the real game.

    MY favorite card game lately is Keyforge, because it basically drafting in its core.
    You can only buy decks and each deck is randomized to make it unique, so you don't really know what you have your hands on until you try to play with it, which makes it insanely fun to try out new decks or play the "Sealed" format.

    A variant I found success in was a monotype draft. The first I did was fighting. Made smart decisions for top draft cards and also made gyms affect both players. If players want more difficulty then move on to mono psychic.

    VARIANT DECK builds I use with my kids to make use of all the extra pokemon cards not usable in normal decks.
    "TRASH DECK" good for mixing cards you want to play but might not have enough of that type to make a full deck
    1. no V EX GX or special
    2. All cards use all energy but need the same amount for attacks (So basically no elements)
    3. last rule is 3 rules but you pick one to use. A. no evolution. All cards act as basic B. you use evolution but energy acts as rare candy to skip a stage (must have final form) C. Use stage 1 cards as basics.

      "CUTIE DECK"
      1. No V EX GX or special
      2. any element usable for any card
      3. no repeats, 1 of each pokemon
      4. only basics with under 70 hp.
      5. no trainer cards (or just draw 3 cards) like Hop.
      Just a straight, adorable, grudge match. Not a lot of strategy but still fun!

    • @Kittykattarina
      @Kittykattarina 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "ONE PILE" good for siblings
      1. NO V EX GX special
      2. All cards use Any energy
      3. final stage pokemon only (or stage 1, or basic, just pick 1 type, w/e you have more of)
      4. 120 (or less for shorter games) card deck. you both draw from same pile
      I set these decks up for my kids so they cant complain about one having "better cards" Also it gives them a chance to use cards of pokemon they like but are not very good.
