  • [Orthodox Podcast] Saint Paisios and Saint Isaac the Syrian: St. Paisios also told me: “Read it, little by little, it is so ‘vitamin-rich’ that you cannot read more than two pages and understand them. Then go back, go back and never say ‘I finished St. Isaac’. The end of the perfects is endless. And Saint Isaac the Syrian is one of the perfects, of the great Saints!”
    This English translation of the sermon of Metropolitan Neophytos of Morphou (Cyprus) was recorded for otelders (Orthodox Teaching of the Elders) by Peter Eliades. Metropolitan Neophytos talks about how Saint Paisios the Athonite used to recommend the writings of Saint Isaac the Syrian.

    This was a fascinating listen. I've started reading St Isaac and have been absolutely taken by the ascetic homilies. I could tell that after reading just a few lines that this man was truly a fountain for the Holy Spirit. God bless!

    I haven’t even officially become a catechumen yet, but although it’s only been on the back of my mind I’m beginning to wonder if St. Isaac the Syrian should be my patron saint when I get baptized, Lord willing.
    St. Isaac, St. Neophytos, St. Paisios, pray for us ☦️

      @@TedBruckner Some homilies are really dense, in a level far beyond. I wonder if as a layman we should be trying to elucidate them or just go on with the ones that are clearer for the non ascetic.

    The information given in this video is WRONG.
    ST. Isaac was not Syrian, as he had nothing to do with Syria, but ASSYRIAN as he lived in Mesopotamia and throughout his life was a member of the ASSYRIAN CHURCH.
    He was NOT Orthodox but Nestoriian, arousing great ambiguities about his Sanctity or if the Nestoriian theory was indeed a heresy or just a plot of Cyril of Alexandria who hated Nestorios and all Antiochians( especially st. John the Chrysostom) .
    He was not a monk as presented in the icon, but Bishop of Ninevi. He retired at a certain time and settled in a monastery.
    His teachings are written in Assyrian and include terms today different from the ones known and approved by the Ecumenical Councils.
    St. Paisios claimed he had a vision of him telling him that he was dedicated to the Orthodox Faith.
    The Orthodox Church must give a serious answer about his case, as well as other ones where non Orthodox are venerated as saints.

    • @otelders
      @otelders  ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Mesopotamia is part of today's Syria... So he lived probably somewhere between modern Syria and Iraq. Anyway, his writings are pure gold, we should see the constructive part and don't stumble on 2 or 3 ideas from his text that might be interpreted in a different way...

    • @evangelosdiamantopoulos8608
      @evangelosdiamantopoulos8608 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@otelders
      Mesopotamia has nothing to do with Syria.
      He is Assyrian 100% geographically ,and doctrinally.
      Very few of his writings and only one of his hymns has been translated to Greek, and the accuracy of the translation is doubtful.
      You avoid answering my honest question :
      How can a NON ORTHODOX = HERETIC be a saint of the Orthodox Church?
      Or were the accusations against Nestorios fake,as his friend and great ecclesiastical personality Theodoritos of Cyrus support ?
      And this is not the only case.
