  • Three moms were in nasty child custody battles when their husbands were murdered. Ashley Benefield claims self-defense when she shot and killed her husband, Doug. Wendi Adelson wanted the kids 400 miles away from their father, Dan Markel, before he was killed by a hitman. Shanna Gardner is accused of hiring a hitman to kill her ex-husband, Jared Bridegan, during their custody battle. #CourtTV predicts what would have happened to the children if no one was killed.

At least that one dude who played football for Auburn didn’t get killed - the one where The Wifey was hooking up with the bartender in The Bahamas, and they tried to hire a Hit Man to kill The Hubby.

The words 'custody' and 'battle' should not co-exist in the same phrase. Parents who think in terms of winning and losing have lost sight of their children's best interests. Separation and divorce can be and often is brutal but never, ever a reason for children to become an asset to wrestle over or, as in these cases, potentially lead to a parent's murder.

Shanna's second husband wasn't avenging his ego, he was just following orders. Shanna is the shot caller. Unfortunately, some divorced parents resent the fact that their kids have a positive relationship with the other parent, or even the step-parent. Shanna is a perfect example of this. Shanna used money as love, but after awhile, the lure of money faded and the kids still wanted a relationship with their dad. She was so selfish, she had to eliminate the competition for her kids' love. This was always about Shanna's interest, not her kids.

I learned the hard way people will use the kids mercilessly and tear the hell out of them for pawns, weapons, and spies. If you're leaving your husband and he wants to take the kids, let him have them! If he wants to keep the kids from you, let him just go off and take care of yourself. Make sure the children know you love them. Don't make lawyers a bunch of money while tearing the hell out of your kids. Your husband will soon find out It's almost impossible parent alone and they will always miss you. It's much more expensive to have primary custody than pay child support. They'll always want to see their mother or father. Don't use the children to hurt or manipulate the other parent and make lawyers rich. Spend the money you would on lawyers on the children. Imagine that. My ex-husband used the children like that for years. Dragging me into court over b s. When I finally let him have the kids well, guess what? Then he called and wanted me to take them back.

Very good documentary, and indeed a topic of great importance, considering how many murders starts, and ends because of a custody battle, and how sick, and tired I am of seeing children being made victims of extreme abuse, because it always ends with one parent dead, and the other in jail.
I want to suggest producing such a program, where the experts take each family member under the arm, and guide them through the process. Maybe we won't have to use so many hours watching murder trials, etc.etc., and can actually sleep normal hours, because of the time difference during live trials. It's killing me! Think of the dear children!

It's never worth it to k*ll your ex over custody.
    1. You're taking your child's parent away permanently and horrifically, which can cause undue trauma to your child and the whole family.
    2. When you get caught, your kid will essentially be orphaned when you go to jail.
    3. Kids grow up fast. You're gonna m*rder your ex for what? Less than 15/20 years of custody, then your kid is grown 🤦🏾‍♀️
The risks outweigh the benefits. Put your big girl/boy pants on, go to family therapy if you need to, and be civil. You're supposed to be raising a well adjusted adult - act like one!

It’s so sad when it comes to this. I don’t think it will ever get better until we look at the family court system and make some changes. One thing these all had in common were toxic relationships and people. And as a side note, people need to be happy for each other when they move on with someone who is nice. After all, if that is your children’s step parent wouldn’t you want them to be a nice person? It’s an absolute nightmare dealing with a contentious ex spouse, but when they marry a step monster it’s even worse. Therapy is a good first step! I got divorced when my daughter was almost 10. In and out of family court 8 years 2 guardian ad litems, later I was glad my daughter was finally 18. Everyone told me just wait just wait. After she graduated high school, I get a letter in the mail from the Catholic Church. He was trying to divorce me through the Catholic Church! They handled it way better than family court and ruled in my favor, offing help or he couldn’t marry again in the Catholic Church. He was already married and wanted to remarry in the church!?! It’s never ending, so to all those out there dealing with it, document everything!! 💜 and always stay aware. It’s very dangerous for you and the children.

Very interesting conversation, what if no one was murdered? I believe the children could have grown up loving their dad's, even extended family members, like grandparents. When parents divorce, no X, has a right to take out the other parent. I am a divorced parent and my children are now adults. We use to have our, war of the roses moments, but we never reached boiling points of, murder. If all the dad's had lived, all the children could have experienced the love and support from their dad. Many children are abandoned by father's, but all of these men truly loved and cared for them. This is the ultimate selfish act against the children also. There will always be many, what It's, for the children to ask. There has to be hundreds of what if, I had a dad. FROM TEXAS

There is a statute in Florida requiring the ex-spouse/parent who wants to move more than a certain number of miles away with the children has to carry the burden of showing why it is going to benefit the parent and children to move and how a meaningful relationship among the non-moving parent and children will be maintained. It can cost tens of thousands of dollars if experts and good attorneys are involved. It's saddest for the children.

What most people will not acknowledge is that in most cases when a woman is through the relationship she wants to go forward as if she's a single woman again I've seen it many times that once a woman is separated she attempts to separate her children from their father why because she wants to start another relationship if she's not already in one she plans on being in at some point and having her kids father in the picture may turn off potential suitors ,and most men going into a new relationship do not want the wife's X husband involved in her life, most men will tell you it's uncomfortable having another man in the middle of your relationship.
Also it is my belief that she was more concerned with him supporting her dance studio more than her wanting to be back with him since he was forcing the issue and she wanted her Studio and she wanted him gone she decided murder was the only way to get both the studio and him gone

He was blindsided by her wanting a divorce and he didn’t want one She just moved out taking the kids one day and he came home to an empty house. I think she took furniture and some valuables. He was hurt and angry understandably and then I would say he started playing hardball with her. This enraged the Adelsons and then Dan took on his mother in law I don’t think Wendi was unreasonable about wanting to live by her parents which wasn’t out of state, it was 400 miles away. He would have been able to see his sons often I think Dan was being obnoxious However no problem is ever solved with murder Cooler heads always prevail. Wendi was a good parent and her mother and father were good grandparents. He thought so until she left him So sad he was murdered. Domestic situations are so dangerous

These who are arguing, bullying, harassing and even murdering over custody battles are the lowest of the low. A person who doesn't think about even their own child(ren) is seriously disturbed. In these cases, there should _always_ be a _competent_ psychologist _familiar_ with such _cases_ _of_ _harassment_ , _bullying_ , _lying_ , etc., because the police, social workers, etc. do not understand or are trained in such matters, because it is often about some kind of personality disorder. In my case too, the authorities believed a _lying_ narcissist for ten years! Then a psychologist was brought in to find out, and it so happened that they had to admit that they were completely wrong. Now they have retreated into the background in shame and no longer dare to show their faces, even though they should meet us annually by law...
I am so angry, because ten years of bullying and treating child badly have taken away both my health and ruined my financial situation, and no one has to take responsibility for anything, even though serious misconducts have been made without properly investigating things and believing in other than almost mere words (in my country the civil service is almost never held accountable and this is 100% true).
I never would have believed how stupid people almost always are, and also highly educated people. And yes, I can easily generalize, because I've met dozens if not hundreds of people over the course of this decade, and only a few of them have been even somewhat rational, intelligent, capable or even mentally mature adults. I've been so amazed by everything I've seen and experienced that I've started to observe people in general and the truth is, as strange and sad as it is, very few are smart, fair and mature no matter their education, socio-economic status, etc. and whatever the subject may be. Many intellectuals who have gone down in history have said the same thing and it really is true. However, the dumbest ones are always the loudest and tell 'truths' about anything or anyone at any time. It's absolutely mind-blowing.
PS As many of you know, disturbed people often don't give up and there are still such people after me, because it's wrong to try to get live your life in peace, keep the child safe psychically/mentally/emotionally, tell the truth, to criticize something justifiably, get yourself and your child justice etc., right? However, these people don't know the truth and don't even want to know, because it's all about bullying, hating, etc. I mean talk about immaturity, stupidity, senselessness, unfairness, insanity and so on...

How sad on all three men. Just shows how evil females can be. I mean women talk about how bad men are yet look three men murdered because 50% chance women wouldn't get what they wanted and bet u more could be found if dug up

How tf after so many years Wendi Adelson still out there and haven't received a single penalty? ffs... I've been praying for that devil to get what she deserves and the "justice" system still giving her a pass when she clearly planned all of it. I heard of this during the pandemy through A&E... Still cant believe this "Woman" still outside enjoying her life.
Sure... Throw in jail the perpetrator but not the mastermind of all of it.

I dont think wendi knew what was going to happen, those 2 killers lied about seeing her. They had no need to see her. Wendi"s family were full of hate more then wendy, and they pushed it. She didnt know he was going to be killed. Coincidences with the day wendi's X was killed. Cant trust wendi X he talks to much abd exaggerated especially since they separated.

She used WhatsApp to communicate with her brother and mother, unlike they who spoke on their cell phones and were caught by wiretapping…She was the smart one.

I'm glad we are bringing more light to the fact that women can be just as horrible as men and should be held to the same standards. Seems like women get lighter sentences.

These cases always bother me. Especially the ones where the other parent goes "missing" before they can prove murder, and in the meantime the murderer parent gets to keep those kids for a long time.

Oh they had to be murdered, because those women hated them, we aren't on rational terms here.

The book mentioned "I Hate You, Don't Leave Me" is a book exploring and explaining Borderline Personality Disorder. To be clear, having BPD does NOT mean the person is violent or a killer.

The motive for Wendi was not just moving to Florida. At the end Dan markel was suing her for misappropriating \ stealing funds and kidnapping the kids charges and she was running the risk of losing her lawyer license. I think that pulled the trigger for Wendi and her family at the end. Wendi couldn’t cope losing her license on top of everything and she decided that Dan had to go.

    Just a hunch;
The twins were getting old enough to start saying things like, “I want to just live with Dad” or “I want to just live with Mom.”
If those children said that to their mom, it would send her into a tailspin. She could NOT lose her children to her ex. Those children are prizes and she didn’t want to share or lose them.

I am surprised at the amount of hatred Wendi Adelson is receiving from lots of people. She did not plan anything. She was a victim of emotional and verbal abuse plus defamation by her ex_ husband Dan Markel. She also went through a troublesome divorce.Of course her parents and brother would be concerned about her emotional well_being.This is a case of a brother going to extreme measures to protect his sister.
