I’m building a workshop so I can have room to teach my 3 boys these concepts and you’re helping me have ideas for projects. I also weld and like to do mechanic work, and need that space. I like how you’ve maximized your space and how safety, organized, and cleanliness conscious you are. Anyways, thank you for these videos, you do great work and are a brilliant man.

You’re so right filtration system as opposed to dust collection and removal big difference. I love your projects as they’re always something most of us can accomplish.

There literally isn't anything you don't build and put on YT that isn't interesting and cool. You make the weekend DIY'ers feel like we CAN accomplish these! Cheers.

12:25 dude that's nothing, I built a 2 filter triangle shaped MERV 13 filteration system for my shop and the 20 x 20 x 1" filters were so dirty after 1 month. 3 times the dust. Mine has a 20" box fan. My dust collection on my tablesaw is 2 stage with bag in the vac and 1 stage on miter saw. I router is 3 stage.
Still this is the best looking filter system I've seen yet. Dope

Great job and thank you for sharing with us! As always the "where I'm at" in the corner of the screen is really nice and greatly appreciated also.

Thanks. Made one after watching this. Had been worried about air-borne dust so used a micro filter with an in-line fan (460cfm) . It quickly cleared the air in my garage/shop. It got so dirty so fast that I put a second filter on the other end of the fan. If I've done much cutting in the afternoon/evening, I let the fan run overnight.

Very compact design 👍. But I would recommend to build it bigger to integrate a second filter (air bag filter). By that you can use the air filter panel as a pre-filter for particels down to approx 5 microns and the second air bag filter for particels down to 1 mircon. That‘s how it runs in my shop and does a great job.

Great job here. I have a blower like you show that exits out a window.
One thing you might do with your circle router is to switch to the other side as you get near the bottom. You know where the center is so you should be able to flip the board over and get a cleaner cut with no tear-out. Just my thoughts.

Solid project and one that I hope to do sometime soon. Only thought for if you have to build more of these for your shop - make sure get to the fan in case it fails and you need to replace it. From what I saw, you'll have to build an entirely new box or spend a ton of time pulling nails and glue apart.

10/10, I'm planning on building one for indoor-air quality. I think I'll be using 4-stages of filters & an 8inch vortex b/c they're resistance-rated high enough to pull air through clogged(to the max) filters. I also want it to have an Megnehelic meter to monitor clogging.

Love it! I'm thinking of putting 1 or 2 of these in my house to clean the air and circulate heat. I have a wood stove and parts of the house get chilly while others are screaming hot.
I was thinking of adding high density foam or something to the inside to kill the noise and possibly making the box longer with 2 slots - 1 for a coarse filter and 1 for a much fi er HEPA filter

I really like your approach to these projects. This is something I've been thinking about making, so it is timely. There were a couple things that I, personally, would have done a bit differently. I would have made the front opening square to match the full filter area, although it seems like it's picking up more or less to the edges of the filter and the style looks good. Another thing would be to attach one of the panels with screws so that it could be removed if necessary to clean/replace/service the fan or wiring. I just am paranoid about anything that is all sealed up. That's a relatively low pressure fan, so I wonder how well it sucks the filter against the frame and how much leakage you might get around the filter - but I'm also not sure that it even matters in this application. Having grown up without really giving workshop dust a thought I'm becoming a lot more thoughtful about it as I get old.

Your project here inspired me to build my own version of the portable air filtration system (yeah, it took me 2 weeks). The main difference with mine is it can run on Ryobi battery or 110v, I can still use the fan as a fan if needed, and cost me less than $60 including the fan. I made a video of it if interested. FYI, I don't always comment, but I do always watch :>) Thanks for your inspiration and keep the great videos coming.

Nice build and idea. Just an idea to think about. If you calculate the actual opening/exposed surface area a 440CFM intake fan requires, you can easily use a bigger intake/filter. It would allow more air movement and less frequent filter changes. With the 12x12 you have it will starve the fan greatly. IMO. I understand keeping the overall compactness of unit. (its perfect). Maybe put (2) filters at a V or come to a point? Or filters on each side and a duct at intake end? just an idea. thanks for sharing

  • @randallsmith7885

Well done! Your vid gave me some ideas as I put one of these together. A possible upgrade would be to make it two stage with a finer filter behind a pre-filter. Direction I am leaning.

I've watched a lot of these diy filter vids lately cause I want to make one. Honestly this is the best so far. The upgrade from a box fan to the inline is definitely worth the cost. I'm wondering if this fan would be fine to make a little bit bigger box with a bigger filter or maybe double up the filters? Also this is the best looking one by far. Going above and beyond for looks is awesome.

    • @F0XD1E
