Drift or Flip? Datsun B210 fastback project

  • Who doesn't love a Datsun?.... well this likely isn't the Datsun you're thinking of, but it fell in our laps and we have been dreaming of a drift car build on the channel. So the question is will this little blue Datsun slide? or is it a lost cause and are we better off fixing and flipping her for a better platform?
What would you do with it?

My Mom bought one of these new when I was in middle school.
It was orange and had stripes down the side.
If I recall, she had about 300K miles on it before she sold it.
Near the end I recall the rust on the body was so bad you could see the pavement through holes in the floor in the passenger side.
Mom loved the car because it ALWAYS started, even the extreme winter of Wisconsin. It started without fail right up to the day she sold it.
Gas mileage was also awesome. It allowed her to commute 35 miles one way to work every workday for ~9 years with minimal gas expense.
Thanks for sharing this. It brought back memories for me that are heartwarming.

I had one, too! Mine rusted out the same as your Mom's. I had to use a ruler to hold up the floor mat on the driver's side!
Mine started every time, and my buddy and I did all of the work on the car. I'm not sure if it is my favorite car, but it was the first one I purchased, and you never forget your first!

They are neat little cars, I didn't think much of it when we picked it up but it really grew on me, hence why I couldn't bring myself to cut it up and beat on it. If I didn't have multiple projects already and a few more planned I would have kept it!

I love Datsun, they are legendary. They were the very first tuner car before all the Hondas from the 90s and so and so. Datsun started the trend to small motor modifications street cars loud exhaust. Hope the car community brings them back to life and put these old toys back to life!

They definitely have their own personality and driving experience. This little car gave so much more enjoyment behind the wheel than you would ever imagine looking at the stats.

@@BoostRodeoglad you enjoyed it man. Older cars have a lot of personality. My dad had a Triumph Spitfire. I'd be happy if one day i could own and restore one. About the Datsuns, they were really popular in Portugal back in the 70s and 80s. The 1200, 120Y, 100A and Sunny were best sellers there.

They are insanely light, I didn't realize how popular they actually were until I posted it. So many people's families had one growing up. I'm really surprised you don't see more of them out there.

Thing is stupid clean for a B210. NOBODY preserved them. Cool to see one back on the road.
My 62 Ford F600 has a similar drum setup as the rear of that Datsun. I believe Ford called them "self-energizing" brakes, as the active shoe would sort of drag the other one along with it and catch the drum. Pretty goofy.
Clicked on your channel for stage rally content and watched for B210. Huh. Did you know someone is rallying a B110 in North America?

    • @BoostRodeo
      @BoostRodeo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Crazy clean car, I just couldn't bring myself to tear it up. I can't imagine that brake setup working well as soon as any corrosion sets in on the backing plate it will likely wear the one shoe faster. Stopped fine after they went back together but I'm not surprised Datsun and Ford moved away from it later. Thats rad, I will have to look it up. I have seen some pretty cool vintage Datsun lemans and circuit cars but not Rally! Thanks for checking out the channel 🤙
