  • In this weeks episode we continue to add more protection onto the body of the Jeep JK using products from Motobilt. The product that I will be installing today is their Crusher Series rocker guards. With the hazards of boulder, stumps, and other obstacles off-road this side area of the Jeep is very acceptable to taking damage. Today I go through the install of these guards and give my honest thoughts and impressions of the product.

Thanks for talking about levels of rock guard strength.

Its all relative on how one uses their jeep. But from experience over alot of years with different people, if youre using your rock sliders DO NOT use this setup... It puts the impacts into the body and tweaks the heck out of your lower body panels on impacts. If youre truely using your rock sliders, frame mounted sliders are the only ones to use....

I hope you noticed the 2 loose nuts on the LR body mount and tightened them later.

I like and want these, but having both pieces connected makes me a little uneasy. There will still be some deflection, idk how I feel about the sheet metal guard moving (even if it’s a little bit) over a few years of wheeling.
I subscribed to see how they hold up!

Motobilt just came out with frame mounted sliders as of last week for the JK. Definitely give those a look!

I might have missed it, but what was your reasoning for going for these body-mount style vs. the frame mount? I saw your discussion on how it was the middle ground on strength. I've noted on other frame-mount rocker guards that they have the disadvantage of reducing ground clearance.

My reasoning for going with these sliders is because they are apart of the body armor system that Motobilt provides for the Jk and the fenders, bumpers, and sliders fits together very well. It’s all 3/16 and I still felt like it was well engineered and should be strong against rock impacts. Time will determine if this is true or not lol. These are also very tucked up on the body so they help keep the ground clearance high on the Jeep. As of right now Motobilt doesn’t make a frame mounted version for the JK but they do make a set for the JL. Thanks for watching!
