For anyone wondering. You can buy an hdmi/optical converter if you have a console or device that doesnt have an optical port... i.e. ps5 / xbox series s. Its a small box which is available between $10 - $39 depending on branding. Basically the astro optical cord goes into the converter with one hdmi coming from system to converter and the other hdmi going from converter to display
True but to go through that box at least when I looked at it the converter didn’t pass through 4k video. Also you’ll need to make sure that the converter passed along the surrounding info and doesn’t just turn it into stereo. Not sure if they’ve addressed that yet I haven’t looked at them for a while.

So using the bramded astro converter is the one i would recommend although it is 40$ Theres no other way to get premium sound without the physical optical port in the console. Unfortunately ps5 removed theres and series s doesnt have one. The series x does have one though eliminating the need for the converter. Just plugging a 3.5mm jack into a control is a garbage way to produce audio. As you are drawing from the power of the controller which isnt sufficient enough for quality audio. The next step up from garbage is bluetooth, most people settle for that option though being a deaf individual i cannot settle for that as there is yet to be a headset via Bluetooth that is sufficiently loud enough. Ergo. Astros a40 + mixamp wired all day for the win
@mattdawson2333 im not sure i just got the xbox waiting on the headset and converter... i have pc pcvr ps5 etc. Everything else works fine. I usually plug the mixamp power into a surge protector. Though all of these issues with xbox has kept me at a distance from purchasing the console for years. It just makes no sense for microsoft to buy up all these companies with an inferior device that a). Still doesnt use a built in charging pack i.e. lithium ion... smh and requires jumping through hoops just to get audio and chat to work ... smh

I plugged my old a40’s in after getting them updated and I quickly realized a huge difference in overall sound quality without the optical audio plug in. I just ordered audio an extractor converter so I can plug back in the optical audio I hopes of having the same audio quality on my Xbox one s. In buying this will have have to hook up two hdmi cables? One from the Xbox to the converter then another from the converter to my monitor? Thanks in advance.
Hi Wavy, the Xbox will plug into this device through USB. From there you can output the audio to another amp if you want to using a 3.5mm to rca cable. Hope that answers your question and thanks for watching!

@@WavyVaporizers the aux on the mixamp is an output not an input. I'm not familiar with the switch but if it has an aux output you could just buy an amp and plug it directly into it. The mixamp functions as a DAC (digital to analog converter) as well as an amp so it accepts a digital signal. Either through usb or optical. You may not need that on the switch, if you don't you could just buy something like the Douk Audio U3 or Schiit Magni and plug it directly into that.

Is there a big difference with using the MixAmp vs just using the headset plugged into the Xbox controller? Never used a DAC before and thought about buying this Astro MixAmp
For sure, to me if makes a big difference. You can use the Dolby settings which gives a smoother sound and I think the mixamp gives more power allowing for better headphones.
@@hackinghifi4247 I ended up getting the SteelSeries DAC Gen 2 and loving it! It is a huge difference in sound compared to using the controller to drive the headset. Still trying to find best Dolby settings along with trying out the presets on the DAC.
Hi Josh, you can use the stream output with a 3.5mm male to dual rca male cable and just plug it into the Magni. Something like this should do the trick www.amazon.com/dp/B06XFQNFSS/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_94NRXEBXK6MM0AAHWWG1 It acts as a preamp so you don't have to worry about the volume on the mixamp it will output a steady volume level. Ok got the mixamp today. I was under the impression that optical port was for output. So I just used the stream port to connect to creative x7 dac, and connected my speakers to the dac via optical. Now I'm ready to go!

It is kinda overkill buying the mixamp in all just to route it to a dac with an optical, but I didn't wanna do the extractor method and compromise that 1440p 120hz signal. Getting rid of the optical port on the new consoles was a major misstep imo
@@MrMegatron85 yup I totally agree with you. If you haven't tried it with some good headphones though you're missing out. Those can plug straight into the mixamp as long as you don't ones that need a lot of power. Or IEMs are even better. You get so much detail and info on where all the enemies and gunshots are. The KSC75 are very cheap and do a decent job and if you want to spend more the SHP9500 are great and can have a mic added onto them easily.

Not sure what you’re talking about but it’ll glow the reddish color if you plug in headset without mic and white if it has mic

You just need the Hdmi splitter if you want to send the audio somewhere else. USB works great.

If you buy a converter you’ll need to make sure you have a second cable. Sometimes they ship with one though.

The device comes with usb that plugs straight into the Xbox. So other than that just an hdmi cable and you’d be good to go.
