  • Using a tee in batting practice is critical to becoming a great hitter. Many of the conference pros you know and love swear by the tee as part of their routine to stay sharp in the box.
    On this week's episode, we cover part IV of our tee work series as we dive into working on cut swing mechanics. Watch as Cam & Jason cover Cut Swing 101 off the tee.

    I love that slow pitch is something anyone can get into, but it takes a lot to master.

    I created my own tee from a youtube video I watched that was from like 10 years ago. Cheap to make and it is the greatest tool that helped my swing go from batting like around .400 to batting close to .700 the last two years. I'm a C/D ball player so I'm not like a stud but that tee changed my hitting forever. It is AMAZING and I would recommend anybody to go back to the basics. Rinse and repeat! Great content guys.

      Thanks for the comment. Tee work can really help hone in a swing. Laying a solid foundation for your swing is a gamechanger. Appreciate you dropping us a line. Any tips you have, we are all ears!

    When i played competitively years ago, Howards Furniture bats were still the rage and the pitchers mound was way closer to home plate. Watching guys hit the middle in videos scares the hell out of me. With the alloy bats and speed the balls come off the bats, its a miracle pitchers don't get killed on a regular basis! If the mound was still close, forget it. Softball today is completely insane for old guys like me. Good luck guys and remember us pitchers have families too!

      @@LeagueNightSoftball it’s so true! I wish I could get more days in… doing all these review videos I’ve realized my game swing has suffered. You’ve inspired me to get back to work!

    Couple observations, make contact a lil further out in front, allows hips to clear for the hands to follow, further off the plate has same effect, keeps hands closer to your body, this is more of a straight a-b swing than the standard rotational swing, hands above the ball, bat head parallel to the ground, downward plane doesn’t need to be significant to create backspin, I think both of you would have n easier time with this wing if you narrowed your stance, being upright helps a lot with this swing. Keep up the great work n videos!

      Thanks for all of those suggestions! It is very much appreciated. As we said in the video we are definitely still working on our technique. I've heard more than one person suggest a narrower stance. We'll definitely have to try some of these out. Thanks for watching!

    Great videos as always guys! I've been taking some time off swinging since my season ended a couple of weeks ago. I will be focusing on weight training for the next two months. I've actually done the cut swing off the tee in my garage, but will focus on the height placement and repetitions. Then I'll put it to action in the cages and then live pitching. Thanks for the info.

      Thanks for watching and we are glad to help! Definitely hit the weights hard during the off season. It's really difficult to gain any substantial amount of strength during the season. That is one thing about living in California now, no forced time off from softball. In the Midwest I was pretty much guaranteed 4 months off of softball every winter and focused on weight training.

    Just had this discussion at the cages today because I am tryna emulate Brandon's swing - squawking ensued but I think one guy was worried about the HitTrax read/I was too far up in the box for the machine. At this point, I am focused on solid contact and a more productive cut FEEL, stats/EV aint jack. ASA rule 7.2.F says the batter is out when an entire foot is touching the ground completely outside the lines of the batters box when the ball makes contact with the bat.
    USSSA rule 7, sec 9 says a batter shall not hit the ball fair or foul while either foot is touching the ground completely outside the lines of the batter’s box or while touching the plate. Sec 14G also says the batter shall be called out when an entire foot is touching the ground completely outside the lines of
    the batter’s box when the ball makes contact with the bat. BTW this is a 65+ league mind ya, keep swingin them stix ya'll!

    Also another thing to help you guys and others out. Learn to hit holes! I've been hitting bp with a veteran of the game for many years. Every time we take bp we set up cones in the infield and for left/right-center. Once you get the cut swing down, start practicing hitting those cones with the correct pitches. Will do WONDERS for your game.

    • @LeagueNightSoftball
      @LeagueNightSoftball  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cannot agree with your comment more! We did a BP 101 video awhile back talking about the importance of taking BP with a plan. Don't just go out and hit bombs, really work on having a swing for any defensive alignment. Taking that to the next level and being able to do it with a cut swing will only make you more lethal on offense. If you have any tips for the viewers, please share!

      Yep focus on improvement/it never stops - pushing 70 and just this year learning to intentionally cut the ball - new grip, sore/swollen hands but improvements are slowly coming - being a contact hitter for 50+ years and now seeing power/distance with the cut - too damn fun!

    Cut swing homer swing or regular homer swing..what's going further ? Hard question to answer I know lol. Was curios what you noticed from your experience.

    • @LeagueNightSoftball
      @LeagueNightSoftball  ปีที่แล้ว

      I couldn't really tell you. However, you might be asking the wrong question. I think which swing is more effective is the better question. Both swings can get you a homerun but the cut swing is far more likely to get you on base even if you don't hit the homer. Hope that helps!

    That’s funny they call it a cut swing now. See I’m strong but don’t have the ass to put behind it to hit the pop up homeruns that the overweight guys hit so I always try to get all of the ball. I agree though that Tee work works wonders for your swing, adjusting it right to know what pitch height works best for your swing to hit line drives

    Wouldn’t a topspin hit just over infielders heads be more effective for base hits? Cut swing adds airtime giving out fielders more time to get under it, no?

    • @LeagueNightSoftball
      @LeagueNightSoftball  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Josh. Topspin hits are great options, but you are able to place the ball better cutting it. If done properly, the ball doesn't elevate higher than about 10' so there isn't too much concern about it getting to the outfielders. If you watch the BP with a Conference Pro video, Brandon does a great job demonstrating how you can cut the ball while keeping it low. It is a more consistent swing than the required swing to topspin the ball. Topspinning will require some uppercut which can increase variability and reduce success. Appreciate the comment!

    • @davek905
      @davek905 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LeagueNightSoftball you can make a really solid and easy argument that cutting across the plane of the pitch increases variability and reduces accuracy on hitting the right part of the ball at the right time.

    • @davek905
      @davek905 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct..
      If you actually cut the ball and put spin on it, it's just going to stay up in the air until it reaches an outfielder .
      Top spin will sink it down

    Thanks guys for the videos. A suggestion for your placement of the infielders buckets/cones. Stand at each position, figure how far the average player can cover to their left and right, and place your cone at their limits. Most third and first basemen will not cover as much ground as the 6, 4, and rover (if used). Two cones per infielder and you'll have more realistic training sessions.
