I’ll never understand people who have an issue with how other people decorate their classrooms. I’m one of the only people on my team who has really decorated their room, and that’s fine; it brings me joy, so I chose to do it.
I’m the same way. I love decorating my classroom, but I’m the most decorated in my department/school. I also teach high school, so I think that where some of that comes from, but students really enjoy having a decorated classroom.
It’s not particularly having a problem with it I think it’s more awkward when they did something you don’t find that nice or convenient and then you have another problem to address when you’re already stressed and busy. It just adds on to the amount of work… at least that’s what I think.
I'm 21 and live in Canada and not a single school in my area ever had anyone decorate their classrooms. I think potentially it's not allowed in the school district near me I'm not sure. But when I found out teachers in America decorate their classrooms I was 17 (already out of school) and I spent our and hours watching classroom set ups because I found it so fascinating. Honestly the difference between American teachers and Canadian is completely different I've not met a single teacher Irl who actually liked teaching. But I personally think the effort teachers put into decorating their classrooms for themselves and their class is amazing and should be appreciated. I hate that people discourage them I went to a school that literally looked like a prison and all other schools in the district did too... So things like this would be awesome
Folks need to chill out and mind their business!! You are suhsniney and very inspiring! Its easy to call each other out but your room is your room and vice versa. The joy you have and get by setting up a new classroom is something not everyone has. Live your life and keep being positive! ❤️
There is no such thing as too much pink! Your classroom should be what you want, you spend so much time there, and it gives the kids a space to spend their day as well. Love the vlog style videos, your positive attitude is contagious! ❤️
The bulletin boards turned out so cute Lauren! I love the addition of the paper fans and how it makes the board more 3D! Editing to add that I really enjoy the vloggy type videos. It feels like we're actually hanging out with you in your every day life rather than your life just in the classroom! :)
I think that you're setting your classroom up in the right way. I would start with the boards too. It would give me more insight on how to decorate the rest of the room. It overwhelms me so much. Hearing you talk about the tools, I have some I got from 5 below and from a family dollar. I have had them for years. I am also a photographer and I am always buying things for props. I have been watching a lot of classroom setups video and seeing how teachers add different seatings. My thought was to use my stools and cover them with some kinda of cushion too. I am glad you mentioned that, that was your plan too. I can't wait to see how you did yours.

I love watching you set up each year! We spend hours of our day in school. We might as well make it an atmosphere we enjoy! My desk is built into a counter and I’m thinking about getting that dot vinyl wallpaper/contact paper for the “backsplash.” So much fun!
This may have already been said, but you can use a regular stapler too! Most have a lever on the bottom that open them up flat to staple on a bulletin board ☺️

I liked your decor in your first grade classroom, but this new decor will be great too. I love how the triple borders look. Neat, clean, and colorful too. I’d watch any kind of vlog you make, but this vlog style with Teddy and your errands are probably my favorite. Either way, my most favorite thing about your vlogs is how you express yourself, so funny and quick-witted. 😀 I really laughed out loud when you described that staple gun as being for a “full-grown, well-fed man”. (Clearly an accurate description, given what it did to your hand! 😮)

I'm a middle school teacher and have been watching you since you first started! Love your content 🙂 I would be super curious to hear you talk about/compare teaching in a new state compared to Massachusetts. Massachusetts is always voted #1 for education, pensions, etc. It's also higher than many other states for salaries too. I'd just think it'd be super interesting!! I staple so that my my fabric/paper is stretched and hangs over the border slightly and then I use a razor to cleanly and EASILY trim the perfect edge. Just a tip! You’ll save so much time trying to use scissors to cut perfectly.

Your boards are looking awesome! I agree that your staple gun is more for construction. Personally I just use a classic swingline stapler for my boards - the kind with the hinge that allows it to open up flat. Kind of old school but it works great!
I absolutely love your classroom setup videos! 💜 I had about 2 weeks to set up my classroom last year and it was rough, I was hanging up titles on my bulletin board minutes before open house started!
