- This video showcases and compares the different exhaust components that my 2009 Audi S5 has experienced. I enjoy this car a lot and I don’t tend to see the B8 (pre-facelift) generation S5 tinkered with often, due to limited aftermarket support. With that said, here’s mine! The following parts are used on this car’s exhaust during this video:
• Magnaflow catback exhaust
• Magnaflow Catback exhaust (without rear mufflers)
• JHM Race pipes
• JHM Straight catless nonresonated downpipes
• Corsa Performance quad exhaust tips
You’ll some revving, takeoffs, and fly-bys in both directions for each setup to compare them all. I hope you all enjoy this as much as I did!
The fact that you went through four separate exhaust iterations.... With four different passes for each.... Is unfuckingbelievable!
@@shiftingstandards I ACTUALLY had your EXACT car on a deposit, then, find out the other day I'm being laid off..... So much for that.
ABSOLUTELY loved the effort you put into this video- I wish more gearheads would do that!
Thank you so much for appreciating the video!! Please check back soon because I’ll be uploading a lot more content.
I’m hoping you bounce back even stronger from your hardships and get yourself an even sweeter ride!
I love the amount of work you put into this video, great job
Thank you so much for your appreciation! I plan to upload a lot more content very soon
Now THATS how you make a proper before and after sound video!!
Fucking epic!
It means a lot that you appreciate it!! I'm looking forward to uploading more content soon!
I have been searching for the best sounding exhaust to put on my 09 S5 and the fact that you went through this to let us hear the difference in sound is awesome. I can't wait to get my Audi hooked up with some pipes.
Have an 09 myself.... I love the Sled !🤙😎
I love the 2nd setup. Beautiful gorgeous v8 pitch while not being overly ear blastingly loud 😍
@@shiftingstandards Got a question, I've read reviews on the magnaflow catback, and found that a lot of people are complaining about drone with the magnaflow system on these models. Has this been an issue for you? If so how bad was the drone? What about when you deleted the mufflers, did this make it worse? Would appreciate your input on this, as if the drone is a big problem then I would be turned off on the idea of getting this setup :/
Can totally agree with that! The second setup would suit most people very well. I’m just a bit of a lunatic, which prompted me to do the other setups.
I remember *hating* my magnaflow system when I first had it, because it washed away all of the tone and character that the stock system had - to me, it sounded more boring. It was just deep but not even loud. And yes, I only knew I had an exhaust because of the drone.
Deleting the rear mufflers made everything so much better. It was less droney somehow, while making the car sound so much more exotic to listen to. I’d recommend AWE Track to others, as it’s just like buying a muffler-deleted resonated catback with nice tips.
Thats the best exhaust video i have ever seen.
Thanks for the upload. This and the SUPER LOUD vids are a great representation of varying exhaust sounds for the 4.2 V8; It'll make my own choices that much easier for my own S5 (you know, the one you sold me 🙂)
I’m still very excited, to this day, that you have as much appreciation for the platform as you do. Have a blast, man!!!
Great work, best exhaust setup comparison video I've ever seen. Sounds amazing too.
Thanks a lot!! Do stick around, because I’ll be uploading plenty more content soon
Whewww that joint sound like a thunderstorm ⛈️
Hahaha, thank you! Love the way this thing sounds. Please stick around for future content. I'll be uploading a lot more soon
Great sound and the LED taillight upgrade looks amazing
Thank you!! And good catch! These are the base tail lights with LED bulbs installed in them. I LOVED the difference they made
WOW, very well detailed video and love the amount of time you put in it! Im thinking of getting a B8 S5 6mt myself! This only made me want it more! Seriously debating between a B8/B8.5 S4 DSG/6MT and a B8 S5 6MT right now. But loved the video anyways!
Either way, you'll definitely be happy! I loved the V8 sound and the rounder fascia of the B8 S5, with its individual LED cells. The 3.0T cars are awesome too, with their superchargers. Those are the faster ones of the bunch, too! If you like Audi stuff, stay tuned!! I'll be uploading more soon!
This video was super helpful! Thank you...
Glad to be of help! I'm looking forward to adding more Audi content soon!
Great vid thanks for the effort in putting this together!
Thank you for appreciating it!! I’ll be uploading a lot more soon.
Great progression
Thank you! If you're a bit of an Audi fan, I encourage you to stay tuned with this channel. I'll be uploading a lot more content soon.
The last set-up certainly has the meanest sound I think. Removing our cats really gives it some race-car sound. So does an x-pipe. I'm hoping to get a proper video of my current set up soon.
@@shiftingstandards The only time I think it sounds not too good is when it's too loud it gets a bit raspy. Other than that, yeah, everything I've done to mine has made it sound incredible.
Without a doubt, that S5 was my favorite sounding car to this day.
The beauty of these 4.2s is that they sound good with almost anything done to them
Recently I’ve been prowling the internet and I came across the S5 and I think i’ve fallen in love. The only thing is, It’s an audi and they are very expensive to repair if anything happens. Obviously if you maintain it it’ll last, but is it worth buying a used one? I’ve seen some decently priced one close to me under 75k miles.
I most certainly think it's worth buying a used B8 S5. It's an absolute trooper. Yes, you'll run into oil leaks from time to time. They don't have the timing chain guide issues that previous generation 4.2 Audis had, though. Also, the engines are super stout overall. The transmissions hold up well, but manual ones are partially known to be rough on their clutches. For reference, the S5 in this video was performing like this with almost 170k miles on it.
NAH I GOTTA GET IT
I love the first version, nice and qiet but with V8's low/subby character.
Great video, thanks for putting all this together, I had a 2012 S5 5 years ago. In your video, with the race pipes/catless and the non resonated downpipes, it really startled to burble on throttle deload 1:20, hey?
In the end, what was your favorite setup?
I have a 2015 RS5 with JHM's 2.75" exhaust & non-resonated downpipes, and I'll have the world's first full JHM exhaust setup with their catless race headers installed next week (engine drop job). I'm very curious how it's going to sound with the cats removed, hopefully not too raspy and sloppy. Luckily, it's a valved system.
@@shiftingstandards thanks for the reply! I just posted an unboxing video of the race headers, they are being installed as we speak!
Hey, thanks for reaching out! I've been watching your videos over the years. My favorite setup was for sure the loudest one. The tone continued to get more and more invigorating with each mod that was added. Audi's 4.2 seems to love a lack of sound restriction. The B8 S5, much like the RS 5 seems to be pretty immune to rasp, which is awesome.
Unbelievable to whoever disliked this
Can’t please them all, unfortunately… Stay tuned as I’ll be uploading a lot more Audi content soon
Super cool video ! But where did you buy the diffuser. I like it a lot. thx
Thank you! I was lucky enough to where the car came with it. It’s the Deval diffuser
👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
What rims and size do you have on the car? I love the look 🤤
Thank you! It was on 20x10 TSW Mirabeau wheels. I later changed them out for OEM 20x9 Audi Le Mans wheels
This should be a commercial lmao
Hahaha yes!!! I love it, thank you! If you're an Audi fan, I encourage you to stick around with this page. I'll be uploading a lot more soon.
Where did you get your rear diffuser?
I was lucky in the sense that it was already on the car when I bought it. I did later have to replace it when an inattentive driver bumped into it in traffic. It appears modbargains.com has it in stock right now; which is surprising. I remember having to wait a few months for mine, but I forgot where I ordered from. It's made by Deval and the part number is D29234, if that helps.
HI great video and effect, I can tell there is a noticeable gain after race pipe and decat. the car seems to acceleration a bit faster compare to previous video, did you have the rear diff mount and bushing replace after the race pipe? the rear seems move a bit on the previous exhaust set and in the last two it looks fine and laid the power down pretty nicely.
Hey, thanks for being so attentive! The car did also get a JHM tune after the race pipe/decat, which admittedly did make the car feel more lively. The rear movement may just be coincidental, as I made no changes to mounts or suspension.
How much hp did you gain? I know its not alot alot we can say but whats the estimated amount all these mods did?
It’s hard to say, because I unfortunately never put this car on a dyno.
It takes a very unusual example of a 4.2L S5 to get the full advertised 354 hp. They’re usually seen making less. 325-340hp is pretty normal for these cars. Or less when there’s carbon buildup.
JHM doesn’t advertise power figures, but they do show quarter mile times. They ran a 12.5 in their car, which is quicker than the magazine times of the 400+hp B7 RS4 and E92 M3. Compared to mine, JHM’s car also had an upgraded clutch and flywheel and lightweight rotors.
Jackal Motorsports is the latest and greatest tuner for the 4.2L cars, and they’re making slightly more power than JHM. They had 304awhp on a vehicle with just a cat-back exhaust. Depending on the drivetrain losses, that could mean about 380hp. JHM would probably be right around 370hp. Factor in the intake, downpipes, test pipes, stage 2 tune, and lightweight crank pulley, and we might be right around 390 crank hp.
In short, expect about 35-45hp with higher flowing cats, an intake, and an exhaust with a proper tune. Besides that, drivetrain weight reduction mods with help little by little. L
Did you feel the difference in acceleration after cats delete? Does it worth it?
@@shiftingstandards thanks for the information.
Try to measure it 0-60 0-130 1/4 mile, curious to see the results...
The cat delete felt like it mainly helped out in the 5,800rpm+ power delivery, if I remember correctly. It was definitely worth it for me. The car sounded and felt less "restricted" on the top end.
I definitely would have *loved* to, but I no longer had the car as of late 2020... If you're big into Audi content, stay tuned, as I'll be uploading a lot more.
I don't get the quad tips if only 2 of them are being used.
This link may provide some clarification:
www.corsaperformance.com/products/ford-mustang-gt-quad-tip-kit-dual-rear-twin-4-0-pro-series-tips-with-3-0-diameter-pipe-21038
I also wasn’t the fondest of how the staggering of the tips was designed. It caused the outer tips to get dirty much quicker than the inner tips.
How did you turn off the cel for the last setup? Does Jhm offer a tune for that or what??
You nailed it exactly! Their tune eliminated the codes. Also, Jackal Motorsports is worth considering. I would've loved to use their software if they were available during my time with this car.
amazing video. how much was the entire setup?
@@shiftingstandards not bad really
Thank you!! Believe it was around $550 for race pipes, $700 for downpipes, $1,200 for the catback (already on car when I bought it), $300 for the muffler delete, and $200 for the tips
Yoo what diffuser is this?
I want to say it was from Deval or something like that
how much does it cost for the jhm race pipes stock downpipe magnaflow catback and rear muffler delete?
I did it all in increments -- If I remember correctly, it was around $550 for the race pipes, $800 for the downpipes, the magnaflow catback was already on the car (probably around $1250 online), and a couple hundred bucks for the muffler delete at a local exhaust shop. JHM has changed their pricing a lot since I purchased, so you'll have check their website for updates.
Actually looking at buying this car in Arlington. How was it running when u sold it. Kinda high miles
Ah, you spotted it! She was running like a champ; even with the mileage. I miss that car. Got into a little bit of trouble with it lol
@@shiftingstandards as you should. Great built man
Thank you!!! I’ll be uploading more content of a more exciting build, so stay tuned 😁
Does the b8 s5 have a clutch delay valve similar to BMW?
Very good question, and yes!! It sure does. I eventually deleted it with the installation of a stainless steel braided clutch line and JXB extended slave cylinder
I NEED THIS CAR MAN BUT IM BROKE
Believe me, I'm right there with you...
Will a resonator and mufflers delete throw a code?
Nope, they should not. Those are not emission-monitored components. As long as your catalytic converters aren't touched, you're in the clear.
@@shiftingstandards ok appreciate it.
What kind of intake do you have im lookin for one for mine
This was the AWE S-Flo Carbon fiber intake
By the way, where did you purchase the magnaflow catback setup and how much was it? As well as where did you get the rear diffuser from?
@@shiftingstandards jeez that sucks to hear. Yup I've been looking at that diffuser too and its ridiculously pricy. Thanks for the reply though mate :)
@@shiftingstandards Hm I have noticed that too, that the facelift rear bumper has more diffuser options. But in that case wouldn't it be more expensive to purchase a new or used rear bumper that is color matched to the car, then a quality diffuser for it, rather than to just bite the bullet and get the deval diffuser for 800$ for the current pre-facelift rear bumper? Or would it still come out cheaper to go with the new bumper and diffuser?
I was lucky that the car came with the Magnaflow catback when I bought it. Seems like it’s around $1200 online. The diffuser also came with the car.
I actually had to replace it though, as an inattentive driver rear ended it at one point. Took month to get the replacement. I don’t think ECS carries it anymore, but other sites might. It’s the Deval diffuser.
Oh, it’ll definitely be more expensive to get a B8.5 bumper and diffuser, especially when you add paint the the transaction.
What size?
If i remember correctly, the JHM downpipes and test pipes are 2.75". The catback is 2.5" and the tips are 4"
What kind of rims do you have on it?
Would you be willing to sell those TSW? If so, let me know
It was on TSW Mirabeau 20x10 wheels, until I ended up selling them to buy OEM 20x9 Audi Le Mans wheels
Its a manual
That's correct :)
your rear badge is crooked
I see the problem i just saw the same ting on mine it just doesnt look good from a low angle
Hahaha it just looks that way because of the shape of trunk and camera angle… I swear I’d be livid otherwise 😅
All good man lol
Gag
Heimlich maneuver?
THis car just sounds shit... B8 RS5 all the way.
He probably drives a Mitsubishi magna!! Knob-jockey!
I agree the RS 5 sounds amazing! Wish I could agree with you about the sound of the S5, though. Still, you're welcome to check back for more Audi content coming soon
