- Today we grill a Tri Tip Roast on the Napoleon Phantom Grill. Cooking Tri Tip is pretty easy to do, you just need to make sure you don't overcook it, and you need to make sure you slice it across the grain. Subscribe here: / @weekendwarriorbbq
Tri tip goes great with potatoes and some simple chimichurri which is what I cooked today.
Enjoy :)

Mike. Ive been waiting for you to break out the Phantom again. Cheers, Mike. Awesome simple cook.
Anything involving beef and potatoes is a fine meal in my books. Good video!
Great cook Mike! That Phantom is an awesome grill! Tri tip looked delicious as well as those spuds! Nicely done! Cheers buddy!
One of the most underrated cuts ❤❤
That looks amazing!! I need that grill!!
Looks so yummy! Thanks for the "tips" in this video. Have a blessed day. 😋👍
Meat and potatoes is a well balanced meal in my book 😆. Nice cook!
Tri tip is one of my favs. Thanks Mike
Appreciate how detailed you explained everything looks fantastic
Love the Tri-Tip. Here out west Costco sells them everyday. It’s my go to for larger groups. Let’s you cook beef for everyone . Well done on the one end and medium rare on the other
I just assembled my Phantom Prestige 500 yesterday and looking forward to using it this weekend! Looks delicious!!
Congrats on the new grill! I have used a couple times a week since posting this video and I love it
Hell yeah Mike!!! Looks fantastic! I'm looking at the same phantom grill, about to pull the trigger!! Your buddy Hohn.. lol
Do it man. I bought mine may 31st not realizing it was a pre order. I’m getting mine tomorrow and can’t wait to get cooking on it. I would pull the trigger before they have no more if you haven’t done so already.
I love the quality of your videos! Step-by-step instructions regarding the recipes and cook time are super clear. Thanks for the great content! You definitely deserve more subscribers!
Killer Tri-Tip Mike! I like very much your videos. Cheers 🍻
Nicely done!
That looks so good. simple recipe but amazing results.
WooHoo!!! Looks great, thank you Mike!!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Looks amazing
what a coincidence that im preparing this today. but of course, I have different way coz its late already to change the steps since its late now and it happened that bump on tis video. amazing that you have two of those different types of a grill. that looks really a perfect finished product .so juicy even the thickest part, I didnt know that theres a slo the right way in slicing the meat lols , thanks
🤣 the icecream man music in the back ground! We dont see to much of them and tri tips in KC!! Haven't seen a tri tip in a grocery store in a long time. The cook looked good though
Great video looks good
I live in Ky so I feel ya on never seeing a tri tip but I just ordered one off of Double R Ranch’s web site so pretty excited bout cooking it!
My in laws love tri-tip! Pretty much every celebration calls for tri-tip and tater tots! The last time we had it, I was in charge of making the tri-tip!
I basically did the opposite of yours! I did a hard sear on all sides first, then did indirect cooking until about 128/130 F before pulling it!
Awesome video!
Thank you, Steve! I love those tater tots too! Or better yet, the crispy crowns :)
Dude that knife is crazy sharp! Do you remember name or where you got it ? Awesome job 👏
A great looking meal Mike ! Gonna stop at my butcher and see if and how much one of those will be. Our family is all over the place for desired doneness so something like this would likely work well ! Much better than me trying to time it all !
How long do you need to preheat to get a nice sear? Just getting used to my new napolean.
Looking at this to replace my old Weber Summit grill. Does the Napoleon have any hot spots or does it cook evenly across the grill?
Nice
How has the finish held up on your phantom? Debating between it and stainless but love the matte look.
It faded from the sun. If you buy one, make sure you get a cover for it. Otherwise, its a great grill.
interesting, thank for the lesson… do you think it is worth the cutting (~40% length) of the thin point to cook closer to thick end?
You should try cooking the tri tip like a brisket.. made for 4th of July.. came out 🔥🔥 .. I couldn't afford a brisket but found tri tip on sale lol
Looks like you never flipped it on the indirect heat is that right?
Looks amazing don't see tri trip my much my way usually sliced up for steak tips
Smoking some plate ribs today!
So you didn’t wash the dirt off the potatoes :(
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
How has the phantom held up for you. Any cleaning tips?
Hi, Chris. No complaints from me on the phantom. It’s the best propane grill I have ever cooked on. As far as cleaning, it’s the pretty much the exact same as a stainless steel grill… grease splatters need to be cleaned if you desire a pristine finish at all times (which I don’t). They have instructions for how to clean the exterior which basically says to use a microfiber cloth. I only care about performance and in that category it does not disappoint.
@@WeekendWarriorBBQ thank you very much for taking the time to reply. Thanks for your channel also!
The Tri tips are getting smaller and smaller. I used to buy 4 and 5 lb tri tips, now you are lucky to get a full 2 lb tri tip.
Also, the price is getting ridiculous.
❤❤👍
Tri-tip is not worth temp probes. Just cook it like a steak.
Get your grill grates to 700+ degrees, sear it, turn the gas to low or off and cook for 10-15 min. Remove from heat, rest, and cut correctly - 90deg to the grain.
