This is a replacement for the Quest 2, which until recently Meta considered a good enough experience to continue selling well into the Quest 3 lifecycle. It's nothing but upgrades for their cheaper model. For people who can't afford to drop $500 on a VR headset this is a much better experience.
@@BozOnEverything it's not the stock interface so it won't be as much of a concern. That's the fitness one. But I am pretty sure I mentioned it during the demo. May not have made it through the editing floor 😕

So, prescription lenses for the quest 2 will work with it? These can be pricy for some prescriptions, and I would feel better if they are interchangeable. I already preordered quest 3s and I have a quest 2.
The only question I need answering is: Is it REALLY worth pre-ordering, or should I stick with my Quest 2? (Cause I do plan on giving it to a sibling when the quest 3s pulls up to my doorstep if I do end up pre-ordering it)
I have a quest 2, and I'm interested in getting the quest 3s. Although with a lot of the down sides that you were mentioning, I'm kind of getting turned off. Although its alot more near and dear to my price range than the quest 3. Which one do you recommend?
I have the 2 and 3 so I won't be purchasing one but honestly this is amazing for people new to VR. I still remember the wow factor of when I first got my Quest 2 and the 3S is a faster, better version of the 2 for the same price. Can't beat that. However, if I was a 2 user, I would save up a little more to get the 3 as the pancake lens will be the biggest immediate standout vs 2 right out of the gate. Super crispy.
Wait for sales. Maybe Amazon (Black Friday) could offer lower prices Same for me, I have Quest 2. No sense in buying Q3S, and still waiting for discount on Q3.
How does the lack of the depth sensor affect the passthrough and MR experiences? A big selling and talking point of the regular Quest 3 was the passthrough and MR experiences.
Good question that I'll do my best to answer. The Quest 3 has been on the market for a while now, meaning many users have been contributing depth sensors data back to meta. With this depth data processed, meta used it to train the Quest 3Ss' computer vision system preemptively. Basically, it's going to be really good at calculating an extremely close to perfect accuracy based on height and angles. This is similar to what they did with the lack of the top two IR sensors that were present on quest 2, but not on the Quest 3. The software just handles it
@@smittyvanjagermanjenson182 thanks for the reply. From what i'm gathering people are pretty surprised and some even convinced the 3S pass through looks just as good as the normal 3. @MikeBonez3356 take of the black place then remove the stick. Little bit wd40 in there wobble it around and bye bye drift. Used this method alot kn peoples and my gf quest 2 controllers
I went from Q1 to Q3, but stand alone. I'm OK with trading the blackest blacks for all the improvements. To each his own, but I'd drop the fresnels for the pancake in a heartbeat.
blows me away that they still won't improve the comfort level with a better strap / battery option , I guess it makes sense to get people on the hook then upsell them things like that but it can really make a bad first impression, and imo there needs to be almost no points of friction for adoption of something that already has to compete with established forms of entertainment.
The strap isn't some horrible thing for a lot of users just messing around with it for the first time around 20 minutes (aka first impression) . Lower cost for the end product is what needs to happen for VR/MR. It could be worse. It could've been built into the headset, making it unremovable . Then, the crying would make sense.
@@smittyvanjagermanjenson182 I guess it wouldn't be so bad if they didn't gouge us for their replacement straps which are way overpriced and not impressive at all. Not to mention we need some better basic content out of the gate that ensures engagement, I was expecting more impressive environments and UI though it is getting there. Just things that seem like low hanging fruit for a company spending BILLIONS. I get they aren't polished like Apple but c'mon.
Now I'm thinking about upgrading my q2 to q3s and I have one question. Is the mount from the q3s the same as the q2 or do I need to 3D print an extension for my bobovr m2 head strap to fit the q3s Btw, it's a really good video, I like your content
It seems to be great for those wanting to finally step into VR who've never tried it or have had a go at someone elses Vr but thought it too expensive, especially if they're going to be offering the chance to pay it off at $20usd per month. I have the Q3 and have been happy about using it as it's such a massive step up from my HTC-Vive but it is a shame to see that it's using the frenel lenses rather than pancake ones. This is a replacement for the Quest 2, which until recently Meta considered a good enough experience to continue selling well into the Quest 3 lifecycle. It's nothing but upgrades for their cheaper model. For people who can't afford to drop $500 on a VR headset this is a much better experience.
Love this for VR newbies!
No mention at all of the light bleed through that mesh?
@@BozOnEverything it's not the stock interface so it won't be as much of a concern. That's the fitness one. But I am pretty sure I mentioned it during the demo. May not have made it through the editing floor 😕
@@jaybratt oh that’s fantastic to hear! I’ve seen it as the default shot for a ton of the promo on the device… the light leakage is brutal on it. That’s super fantastic to hear it isn’t stock. Yeah I did a double take when posting too… I thought I heard you say that, but questioned it since so much promo has shown that interface option. Thanks for the clarification. ✌️
I have wide-set eyes so the ipd and field of view would be a deal-breaker for me. I'll hold out and just get the quest 3.
So, prescription lenses for the quest 2 will work with it? These can be pricy for some prescriptions, and I would feel better if they are interchangeable. I already preordered quest 3s and I have a quest 2.
Yes the lenses are foward compatible
If the lenses are same as 2, could you use Zenni prescription lenses from the 2 on the 3S?
Yes from what I heard
The only question I need answering is: Is it REALLY worth pre-ordering, or should I stick with my Quest 2? (Cause I do plan on giving it to a sibling when the quest 3s pulls up to my doorstep if I do end up pre-ordering it)
I have a quest 2, and I'm interested in getting the quest 3s. Although with a lot of the down sides that you were mentioning, I'm kind of getting turned off. Although its alot more near and dear to my price range than the quest 3. Which one do you recommend?
as someone who wears glasses, I’d recommend the quest three then
"Mom, dad, I know we already have the quest 1, 2, and 3, but can we get the quest 3S?"
I have never preordered anything in my life, this may be the first
Can u do a video on watching Netflix and or sports in the headset ? I’m not a gamer
yep! you can (but netflix was discontinued a while ago if im not wrong, youtube is stil up, and there is an internet browser pre-installed.)
I haven’t even gotten the Quest 3 yet lol. I would love to see how Freeland plays on the Quest 3s.
How well is the controller tracking and the fov? Those are the only things I’m wondering
The quest 3s uses the same controllers as quest 3. Which is way better tracking and no ring (trust me, I own quest 3 and 2)
@@Mccev_Roric_Vrthank you it’s just that I keep seeing different storys on how it’s bad or good and it was confusing
11:07 can you hear things better in games like the quest 3
Is getting a quest 3s worth buying for a upgrade from the quest 2?
Show an image difference between Quest 3S and Quest 3
I can’t afford the quest 3, but I have the quest 2. Should I upgrade to the quest 3S or stick with the quest 2?
Upgrade. You cant play the new games. Just sell the quest 2. Youll still keep all your games
🙏
Wait for sales. Maybe Amazon (Black Friday) could offer lower prices
Same for me, I have Quest 2. No sense in buying Q3S, and still waiting for discount on Q3.
How well did the mesh facepad work? Must be more breathable, but any light bleeding into the headset?
Everyone always dissing the strap, it's not that bad....I like it
Still don’t own a Vr but this headset looks cool as well as the Batman game
Is the hand tracking and mic any better than the quest 3
I think that weighs well for those who want good passthrough but don't want to spend a lot of money for the regular quest 3
How is the tracking compared to the quest2? 11:1
i would guess its like quest 3 tracking because it's the same controllers but who am i to tell you
I still use my Quest 1 for PCVR... dont need Quest 3 or 3s. why ? I like to play my horror and space games in good OLED blackness black.
I did the same but at some point, the stick drift gotten too bad and we were only able to find joysticks for the quest 2, so now I use the quest 2 ONLY because I can't find a way to fix my quest 1 stick drift.
I'm so salty we lost the OLED
@@manonthedollar while In my time using the quest 1, The 72 fps is a big downgrade from the 120 fps you get from the quest 2, 3, and 3S, but the OLED blackness makes it so much better and even the original controller design urges me to go back to the quest 1, BUT I CAN'T HANDLE THAT STICKDRIFT😭
Is there one of those mesh interfaces for the Quest 3? That looks really interesting
And does it prevent fogging well?
Can I play on 72 htz on it for gorilla tag
Is it just as better than the quest 2 also will the game you have on you quest 2 transfer over to quest 3s
As a very casual vr user, I'm 100% getting this. upgrading from the Quest 2
Now I'm thinking about upgrading my q2 to q3s and I have one question. Is the mount from the q3s the same as the q2 or do I need to 3D print an extension for my bobovr m2 head strap to fit the q3s
Btw, it's a really good video, I like your content
Can you do a review of meta quests new open facial interface and compare it to other facial interfaces???
It seems to be great for those wanting to finally step into VR who've never tried it or have had a go at someone elses Vr but thought it too expensive, especially if they're going to be offering the chance to pay it off at $20usd per month. I have the Q3 and have been happy about using it as it's such a massive step up from my HTC-Vive but it is a shame to see that it's using the frenel lenses rather than pancake ones. I'm guessing they did this so as to not lose sales of the Q3?
The lack of pancake lenses is the entire reason it's $200 cheaper than a Quest 3.
