Attack Move and Attack Move Click are often overlooked settings in League of Legends, with many players unaware of their key differences. Most stick to the default move-click settings, and even professional players frequently use Attack Move with an indicator. But what if there's a faster and more efficient alternative to kite? A very nice thing about attack move click is that it separates attacking and walking between the two hands, and that can help a bunch.
Move click = right click
Attack move click = left click

As an adc main, I use A for 'player attack move', LMB is bound to 'player attack move click', Shift+LMB for 'player attack only' click, and ~ for toggling 'target champs only'.
It's a setup for every single situation. (PAMC for minion waves/kiting targets forward) (PAC for kiting while moving away, just alternating LMB/RMB to orb walk) (PAOC for situations where you can't afford a misclick with LMB or PAMC)
I can't bind LMB as "player attack move click".. How did you do this?
I found that left click as attack move click messes up some other stuff, for example clicking on the mini map. What do you do to circumvent that?

Several years ago, I switched my attack move click to spacebar. I already got used to using "Y" for locking and unlocking my camera when needed so hitting spacebar whenever I want to attack something and right click whenever I want to move feels really natural. It's like a drummer playing with 2 drum sticks instead of being handicapped at 1. Right hand move, left hand attack, right hand move, ect. The rare times I use my right click to auto someone is when I toggle "attack champions only" and it makes each auto more purposeful when tower diving or in a large minion wave.
This is something I have seen from my students and honestly is a great alternative! You can even try having "A" for Show Advanced Stats to see your range
@@Xpecialy That's not a bad idea. I currently have it on "C" but my it may be more useful on the "A" key. You raised a good point in this video about using Advanced Stats for attack range indicator on the fly.
More recently I've bound "V" to my shop because I was still left clicking for it and I've noticed a big difference in my shop speed. Always something to improve. Thanks for the video!

AUTO ATTACK SETTING TELLS U IF IT"S WARDED WTF. I have been playing this game for almost 10 yrs. Reached diamond 2 splits and I never fkin knew wtf
I also set things up that when I hold shift I can see my AA range. Same with skill shots when I have quick cast on. Thus, I can still be fast and efficient with my clicks and quickly see my range as needed.
I think the reason people use A + click on autos and quickcast on skills is because you might have to use 2-3 skills REALLY fast (ahri R+W+E+Q, might even have to use flash too), but you cannot input two auto attacks at once. So even being difficult, it is totally possible to weave auto attacks between skills without any loss, you just need some practice. In this case, I do not think there is any advantage to any approach, it is all personal preference. They can all be played optimally without any loss.
That ezreal play around 4-5 min will forever be in my head its so fkin good
I'm not a attack move click player because im used to the rhythm of pressing "a" as soon as I input a move command, and it would fuck up the timing to switch to attack move click because i need time to move my cursor. To me I feel the delay is marginal as the high apm situations are usually governed by keyboard commands and using attack move click doesn't increase the "load" on your right hand, but just adds a click to your left hand
Every change is marginal. Going from normal cast -> smart cast is another marginal change. If you aren't actually autoing perfectly with the current Attack Move, then this marginal change might be bigger than you think
I feel the same way. Instead of "a" its on "spacebar" for me and it feels great wit the rhythm.

i use left click = move click, right click = attack move click, shift + left click = normal left click interaction.
especially as a riven one trick for fast Q's and so on, it's super useful, but with other champs it's the best way to play too imo. and it's more consistent with pretty much every other game that exists.
PS: you can't change the left click ingame, you have to change it in the files
Because autoattacking is a constant process whereas abilities are instant. If you are playing say annie, you typically use abilities when they are off cooldown unless its unsafe. Whereas if youre kogmaw you get off autoattacks whenever you possibly can. This is because unlike with abilities autoattacks are much less impactful but come out much more often.
In essence what this means is that it doesnt matter where the enemy is as long as you can hit them with abilities unload your shit and run away. The width actually matters more for abilities than the range. With autoattacks on the other hand if the enemy can hit you back it reduces the time you have to keep autoattacking. Thus if you can reduce this by keeping just barely in range to autoattack you can typically reduce the threat of dive upon yourself.
It also has the added benefit of being able to quickly cancel the auto before even starting the animation as you still need the confirmation click so to speak.
This sounds counterintuitive but as you mention auto's are different from abilities.
More often than not once you click an ability you are sure you want it to go off.
For an auto that isn't necessarily true, especially if you're "dancing" around the range.
I'll need a bit more proof that attack move click is going to be the future META option to switch tbh.
i have my attack move click on tab and moved the scoreboard to the key above tab. because i was used to click tab for the scoreboard frequently it helped me a lot. now i can use my pinky finger efficiently. i dont need the range indicator because i mostly play melee champs
You could also put the "show range indicator" on space bar in your League settings (not the settings ingame but when you edit the lol file).
That way you could see the most time the range most of the time in fights (only "con" is you have the whole time you want your range seen the camera centered on you).
ever since i learned how to do the attack move, i couldnt stop not using it and i had a very SIGNIFICANT improvement afterwards

Honestly, having attack move be 2 buttons helps me time better my autos, the 1 click AA is just to quick and always leads to a misstime. Kinda how some fighting game players add attacks in the middle of a combo to make it easier to time it.
Personally, in my early days of league, everytime i'd be right clicking, my index finger would raise up slightly. With so many actions attributed to the right click, my index finger actually started hurting because it wasn't doing anything, just hovering over my mouse. So thats when i found attack move, bound it to spacebar and finally my index was able to do something aside from float and the pain disappeared. Now, i think its too ingrained in my system to remove. i tried attack move click but my muscle memory just wouldn't let me. anyway good video
Isn't the Attack Move also a remnant of old RTS games like Starcraft and Warcraft, which were played by most veterans, and Broodwar still being played by some players to practice APM, micro, etc.?
Yeah it is, but it should absolutely be used to make you a more consistent player in LoL due to the Target Closest to Cursor feature

I started playing over 7 years ago (Patch 8.7) and never understood why people preferred Attack Move over Attack Move Click. As a spaceglide enthusiast, I often found Attack Move to wear my hand down significantly faster in game.
I can understand the range indicator thing, but I think it's more important to have consistency and comfort than more information
Ok so question: I come from playing FPS’s competitively and I couldn’t stand using QWER to use abilities so I changed it to WASD. W being my Ult. My friends clown on me but I love using it. Q and E being my Smite, Flash or ability. Am I putting myself at a disadvantage?

I don't know about anyone else but for me it just feels nicer to have it as A+left click since it feels more like an attack. Also that may come from me playing rts games and that being the normal but it just feels so wrong to use a key for attack idk 😂
I completely understand you and I think it is pretty different for a lot of people. I have found that most players end up delaying their attacks in hectic scenarios due to not being able to upkeep the speed of autos + abilities in later teamfights

I’ve never had an issue with the auto attack setting enabled, but I also have player stop on the side of my mouse, and use that regularly.
I also have attack click on my middle mouse wheel, so I have quick access to all three options quickly.
Inb4 i try this out and i suddenly stop accidently walking into the enemy after a missclick with teemo's turbo happy feet
How do people deal with either options when fighting around and near minions? I tend to either feel like or end up hitting the minions instead of the enemy champion.
Attack move with target closest to cursor will help with accuracy by allowing a slightly greater degree of inaccuracy, but Target Champion Only + Move Click is by the most consistent method for clicking past minions
I think attack move is good for me personally because it helps with understanding proper spacing and without the indication range I don’t know if I can auto without being traded back
I changed my attack move click to left click a while ago. Actually works really well.
does the left click actually do anything in game (not like buying items or anything)? if not i’ll switch it to attack move click too, sometimes it’s annoying missing the auto attack because i missed the champion lol

@@toxiclob5ter237 You should just be careful when hovering map bc you will start moving if you have the "map move" option on, and work with your pings (I use ctrl to ping now). Other than that, it is really great, it's easier to change between "move" and "attack"
I use LMB as player attack move click, and A for player attack move.
I use all of them :D depends when i want to kite away from my target or while im chasing. Same with quick casting. I have quick cast on all the time but i binded shift + q,w,e,r with indicator for longer skillshots or when casting to the river from the high ground and vice versa.

To be fair... Pressing S by default stops all movement and attack commands, including Auto attack, and I'm just used to pressing S after getting snared within tower range, if I am not intending on taking turret aggro
Also also, I have quick cast with range indicator bound to the SHIFT modifier, so I always have the best of both worlds, Using C for range is always good, and rebinding A to Attack move click imo is the way to go, because then people can get used to press A like an auto attack spell

What i like to do is just hold c to pull up the attack range and just left click attack enemies. very useful and efficient

Just split up attacking and moving and that's the biggest difference you need. Att move click is superior though. If you want to attack click champ you were already gonna 'A' click them, and if you want to be able to cs without fear of clicking wrong you att click near it and it will auto pick the closest to the cursor. great for kiting as you can just move back then att move in the same mouse spot instead of swinging back n forth to move back then a click. I do this with a mouse 2ndary key.

I love left click as attack move click but it messes up a lot of other stuff do you guys have a fix?
I made this switch years ago and one of the issues I have encountered is when I click on the map to see that region, my character will start pathing to that place. So I have to click the region I need to move to, and drag my map to the region I want to see.
Has anyone else encountered this or is there a way to prevent this from happening?
I have an issue with attack move click, wondering if anyone else encounters this. When chasing an enemy into bush without vision, if there are any minions around in vision, even if I attack move click into the bush, my champ will instead start going backwards towards the visible minions. Any tips for dealing with this other than having a ward for the bush? Thanks!!
That's just the enemy being smart and outplaying you. Most things in life have pros and cons and can't be just plain good/right in every situation. Attack move click/attack move are extremely useful setting and makes players'' lives easier but they can also be exploited and use against them by smarter players. Some players know about you or other players using those settings and they them work against you in certain scenarios - like your mentioned loss of vision or by putting ward. Especially ward trick is almost as old as league/those settings and is much more obvious but brushes and loss in vision exploits similar nuances. You just have to be aware of those nuances and restrain yourself from auto pilot doing the same all the time and in such situation either use right click or ward the brush to keep the vision so your attack move keeps targeting the enemy. The mentioned ward trick is outplayed also once again by precise right click or by using in the video mentioned target champions only setting.

It’s been there since I started in 2013. Probably earlier.
It's been in the game for a very long time, but until they added the Target Closest to Cursor function in Season 5, it wasn't too important (the Target Closest to Cursor was also inconsistent and buggy for a long time too)
I've got all options bound behind shift as a modifier. Shift and click is attack move click, right click is always regular move. And I still have A for regular attack move. I always used a to occasionally check my range, then amc to do my attacking after the first. Though now that I know about the stats that might be always on for me
I've also got shift set to quick+self cast on all my spells, and alt to self cast only. With no modifier to show me the range.
I spend 90% of each game holding shift

If u really want to the range u could bind both for example attack move on X and attack move click on A the sequence would be X and instead of left click u click A all it does it show the range and proceed to attack move click no extra delays from what I’ve tested myself but maybe for others it might be different

So…what does attack move click does?
I'm a Riven OTP, and I'm using attack move for all my basic attacks. It makes no sense, she's melee and she already has more inputs than the average champion but I'm just used to it, even tho i can clearly see that I'm faster without it
for me i use the a move that shows no range indicator and insta attacks with attack closest target to cursor with toggle target champs only on mouse wheel but i hold down C to show me my range at any time while fighting
I have to say Attack move break the game sometimes too. For exemple kalista take longer to jump for some obscure reason and somes animations cancel only works with attack move.
Telling you, moving on right click and attack click move on left click is THE way to play LoL.. made this change ages ago, and have NEVER looked back, it it actually THAT good. And it makes kiting so god damn natural it's stupid.
i really thought there was something about attack move that made it superior because all of my high elo friends use it instead of attack move click but i guess its just what there are used too because they started way earlier than me ( i started around worlds season 6 around october)
A lot of people don't know you can move the camera with scroll wheel click and when used with attack move click it gives you an advantage over people that just move their camera by panning to the edge of the screen 😂
On low dpi yes but league is not fps that requires big precision so for players with non slow dpi it's negligible because it's not taxing for them at all to both pan the camera and move/click on the enemy at the same time in comparison to a player with low dpi who needs to do big swipes of the mouse to pan the camera.

That is not the case. The Target Closest to Cursor setting has the same functionality for both Attack Move and Attack Move Click. What you may be thinking of is using the Attack Move's crosshair as a way of selecting a target. In reality, it's the same line of questioning as normal cast vs smart cast in which very few people argue that normal cast is superior
for me i like attack move better because without it i tend to press 'a' too early before my cursor is lined up exactly with my intended target and then i auto the wrong one. i think for me its easier to coordinate when exactly i initiate the attack using the same hand i use to aim where I want to attack. i play irelia so it may be different for other players

I'm by far not at the level at which 0.1ms decides the outcome of the fight. So sticking to my usual A-left click. Having to force my muscles to learn new bind is too scary to justify the effort.
Also - playing Top, and mostly bruisers, so its less important.
I would think about it differently. This is a change that will cause you to be worse in the next few weeks or months but will give you an advantage for the rest of your League career. If you plan on playing League for years into the future, is sacrificing LP for a few months in exchange for long term benefit not worth it?
I think the only players that should consider keeping Attack Move normal cast are current Masters+ ADC players. Everyone else will benefit from the change

I used to play with attack move click on lmb but dota doesn't have that so when I came back to play again I had to swap it to A

If you play adc this is necessary to learn and crucial to implement in your gameplay in order to climb.
I’m an adc main and I put my c key on toggle on my keyboard settings recently to show range while using attack move click for the best of both worlds. I’m not sure if it’s considered using a macro and bannable but it helps SO MUCH for lane harass and max range kiting😅

This is something that is doable and won't be an issue unless you play in Riot sanctioned events (so not an issue unless you are Grandmaster+). The alternative here is to bind Show Advanced Stats on a convenient to hold button, like Spacebar, that you can get used to holding. The downside is that you will need a different binding for Center Camera

I think this video is as useful as it's useless. What i mean is that, yes we are talking about optimisation and it's nice to have the knowledge, but it's actually micro maximisation which only concerns the top players so... not really relevant for the majority of players imo.
I'll take my example: I switched from attack move click to move click, because i felt like i was being more precise with my clicks and who i'm targeting. Yes it might require 1 more input, but at the same time only a few characters require the "very fast" apm to be able to use their AS consistently, and it's also only for adc champions so there's no need for everyone to minmax their apm, i think people should just do what they're comfortable with. (yes i know he talked about high apm champs such as ezreal or lucian, i still don't believe it's as mandatory as a jinx under passive buff or a cracked twitch/kog'maw)
In the end it's only subjective. We each have our preferences and for a fact, just like he said, most of the top players kept using the move click while the attack move click should "objectively be better" (to say, I know a few players that use both so it's an option to consider as well, while it may feel unatural to some). Not everyone will agree with me, but that's my take and i think we should stick to what we're more comfortable with, as long as it doesn't drastically nerf our gameplay/playstyle.

Thank you for elaborating the attack move on cursor, cant stress that enough for new players and low skill players that want to get good but keep giving excuse saying "its too hard......". I keep saying this relying on right click only for attack and move will 100% gurantee lead to misclicks causing huge errors and will not improve your gameplay also doesnt help that 90% of that champ pool has dashes of some kind. Ive seen it to often, wanted to attack but moving leaving your self vulnerable or darn it i attacked when i wanted to move OR why am i attacking the turret. Like its difficult to learn at first but the results will be worth it in the end i say 1 week use practice tool for attack move on cursor and you'll understand why its better and more accurate
all lol needs now is a toggle option for see atack range, just like it was with letal tempo and making attack champions only work with attack move click... but I guess it's too hard to implement those...
Yeah, unfortunately the workaround is using the Show Advanced Stats keybind for now
if i was starting over id probably choose attack move with indicator . but im too deep in i have tried a few times to swap but I play 10 times worse

I play with A Move Click but then I proceed to spam the living sh*t out of my Advanced Player Stats button to see the range.
I use attack move but I have my see more stats button bound to space and I'm always holding it effectively always showing me auto range. Kinda a little cheat if u ask me

As a starcraft player, i use attack move very often. I always thought playing starcraft for a dozen years makes me a better player mechanically, but ive always been stuck in silver until very recently i finally made it to gold. Ranked league is such a bitch. Master rank in sc2, silver/gold in league.
Lmao. A joke of a game is league. I believe that you were master in SC2 and gold here in league. The game is MADE to be rng and literally made to drop your winrate to 50%. They want you to have the slowest climb possible. Amazing game is league!!!1
@WormioBH lol. Yeah man, it's rough. I rarely play ranked anymore. Just aram on the weekend with friends because ranked is so frustrating and rng as you say.
I feel like you all though I am nowhere as skilled as you since majority of my gaming until league was being an FPS merchant and mostly relying on just my reflexes and raw aim. It was naturally easy for me to climb in Overwatch despite later falling in love more with more interesting more moba like characters like DPS Doomfist and Wrecking Ball rather than your typical snipers, Cassidy and Soldier 76 aka practically all aim heroes. However, when I started league I legit felt like a child that touched keyboard for the first time. I was so atrociously bad. And still am relatively mediocre sitting around gold/plat all though I don't really grind and play mostly normals learning new champs every now and then. I did grind a bit in my first year of playing though and stopped because it was pretty frustrating. I was GM in Overwatch before all the Brigitte, Goats and double shield non sense.
This changed my game. This is my first year and this literally took me from iron to bronze in 1 day. Thanks!

attack move click is an actual cheat, its completely near useless on melee champs, and most of everyone thats not an adc giving them a major advantage. its basically lets you do two things at the same time and just flat out bypassing human reaction time and the ability to multitask because the computer is doing the attacking for you essentially. I never really understood how such a thing exists in a competitive online video game, it makes no sense. the crazy thing is that, league has no turn rates, which makes attack move click even more of a hack, if its not really obvious already that letting a player do one command to do two is absurd when those commands are meant to be a skill indicator of how fast you can correctly do them.
