Also gotta love that the people behind the Clone Wars Multimedia Project, were like. “You know what’s cooler than 1 special forces super soldiers? 2 special forces super soldiers.” ARC troopers and Clone Commando’s are just really cool, and I like that they both feel like they fit within the setting perfectly. ARC troopers are treated much like the Spartan’s of Halo, sure they can do stealth missions well behind enemy lines , most of the time they are either on the front lines leading troops, or blowing up nearby important targets. Meanwhile the Commando’s are almost always hiding in the shadows of C.I.S. waiting for the perfect target to strike well behind enemy lines. I feel like the the coolest thing would be an ARC trooper game that uses the Halo trilogy as a basis, with giant battlefields, multiple basic soldiers and vehicle gameplay. Meanwhile, a Commando game could refine the original Republic Commando with squad gameplay as the core mechanic, with maybe more expanded stealth gameplay as well as having its own cool set pieces.
I always thought of the ARCs as Spartan II equivalents and the commandos as Spartan IIIs. I would also say that two ARC troopers could take a Spartan II in a fight.

For those who are less familiar with hard Old Republic Mandalorians went. When they went to war with the Jedi they had to deal with Jedi blocking their blaster fire with lightsabers. Their solution was old school lead ballistics, because sure a Jedi can still react fast enough to put their lightsaber in front of them, but that just turned the supersonic hunk of lead into a supersonic splatter of super heated lead shrapnel flying into the Jedi's face.
Where did you get this info? I don't remember any time where mandalorians used slug throwers on jedi to a significant degree. In fact, there have been periods of 1,000s of years in which slugthrowers were common and the jedi thrived. The closest things to this I can remember is when obi wan in canon blocked a bullet, and the shrapnel splattered him. In Legends mace windo could intercept hypersonic bullets, but sometimes his lightsaber didn't vaporize the whole bullet and it splattered him, but not to a serious degree.
@@myduckisonqauck7227Psst, friend, over here. Wanna hear a secret? Quietly now.... Its because it doesn't exist. 8.35. I'm glad you brought that up. People have been saying that the Jedi were corrupt for going after Palpatine in that scene because he was the Republic's leader, even though he's also an evil space wizard who orchestrated a massive war to gain said leadership in the first place. Not to mention that Mace did originally try to arrest him before he killed the other Jedi.
Gotta say: Having Palpatine LOIC'd only to have his contingency plans go into effect, would've been a far more intriguing prequel trilogy. Also, would've made it pretty easy to 'hang' the Jedi for it, negating the 'entire need' of Order 66. From the PoV of 'new canon', if it had been laid out better, it would've allowed Disney to 'Chekov's Gun' with the Palpatine Clones. (The Jedi would *know* Palpatine died, but his clone would claim he faked his death to avoid the Jedi Conspiracy's Assassination Plot)
Fun fact: the reason the song Vode An mentions Coruscant isn't because it was made by the republic or clones, but because it is an actual ancient Mandalorian war song. The ancestors of the Mandalorians were originally one of the two species that lived on ancient Coruscant, but were exiled thousands of years ago and eventually found Mandalore to settle on. Many of their songs and stories recall that history and Coruscant is still seen as an important cultural location for them

Clone Commandos are so badass! Republic Commando was a great Star Wars game and I loved playing it! And Vode An is one of the pieces of Star Wars music ever!
Gregor is peak clone commando. Man escaped a disasterous battle that(aside from himself) had a 100% mortality rate, soloed a droid army, survived the explosion of an entire fuel depot, and although his sanity isn’t necessarily in tact anymore he still managed to get to republic space and then was deemed worthy to train the next gen of soldiers, deserted, and still survived to the age of rebellion. Granted he still was the first to die out of the trio of Rex, Wolfe, and himself but still man has a stacked resume
I played Republic Conmando's campaign so much as a child I can still quote it as an adult. Multiplayer was a lot of fun too - always great playing as a Trandoshan!
I adore the Republic Commando game so much. One of the truly last great Star Wars games ever made (no I don’t count anything Disney Wars). I wish we had gotten the Imperial Commando sequel, but LucasArts had gone on crazy pills at that time and cancelled both that, KotOR 3 and the 99% finished Battlefront 3.
Vode An is one of the hardest slapping themes from a game, and very much sets the proper mood for the setting. Other contenders, for me at least, would be the Culling of Stratholme from WoW. Would be interesting to get your take on Warcraft Lore, at least before Cata killed the setting.
Full agreement on Vode An. That song ALONE was worth the price of admission. The fact that the rest of the game was noting short of fantastic was nice too though.
Vode An tells how the ancient Taung (the original Mandolorian species) fought against the Courisanti natives. During their planet wide war, a volcano erupted covering a sizable portion of the sky with ash. Which lead to a semi-victory for the Taung. But they lost. And we sent offworld. And then the Taung landed on what would become Mandalore. The T-shape visor was originally because of the Tsing’s head and eye configuration. But is was adapted for many other species over the years. Rodians, Wookiees, even a Hutt was inducted into the Mandolorians.
Its a crime we only saw them TWICE in the entire clone wars show and it was around 5 minutes max. They would’ve been perfect in the citadel mission with the infiltration and on Umbara with the jungle like environment. Hell I would’ve sent em in the lair of grievous too
Republic commandos fit the profile of a space marine more than the Adeptus Astartes do. They come in, blow someone or something up that's vital to the enemy war effort, then disappear before more enemy troops arrive. The Adeptus Astartes feel more like Jedi with guns and power armor, minus the common sense.
@@britishrex5515 That was Karen Traviss making stuff up. In the actual Republic Commando game, the Jedi on Geonosis ordered the commandos to assassinate enemy VIPs, destroy droid factories, and sabotage enemy warships.
To be fair, Space Marines were not made by the Emperor to be special forces troops, they were made to be the main army to conquer a galaxy. They only got regulated to more limited special forces roles after the Horus Heresy.
Fun (maybe) fact, there’s a Jedi that had a child with a clone commander, (I don’t exactly remember what happened off the top of my head) so if he’s raised right there’s a chance that we can have a force sensitive commando
@@ladywaffle2210Yep! Etain Tur-Mukan and RC-1136 Darman met on the planet Qiilura, fell I love as the war progressed, and eventually had a child together.
You should definitely read the books, because the greater lore of Skirata, his deserters and the whole Special Unit is just fascinating for a guy like you
Delta Squad is a prime example of the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” cohesion. Boss is the leader, Fixer has a way with machines, Sev has the most attitude, and Scorch is one of a kind. But seriously, I loved republic commando, Boss is one of the reasons I go by BossEvasion, the other being Big Boss from MGS. And I always use his color scheme whenever I play a game that has power armor of some sort in it. Especially Halo.
Given that the commandos are genetically enhanced, the specialized armor and weapons they hit all the traits for super soldiers to me. In my opinion their cooler than 40k marines.
Space marines have all of those but better In every category, except lack of shielding on the armor. Admittedly I do like them more than marines cus of looks and sw over 40k cus not as grimdark but in a straight fight a marine would slaughter a commando.
No, no they did not. That's the normal Dee Bradley Baker voicework. His voiceactor was onlynpaid for use in a game, re using his recorded lines in a TV show would be a contract violation.
Not only was the game great, but the books are fantastic as well. Triple Zero is probably my favorite star wars book to date, and it really fleshed out both thw mandalorians and the clones and their part in the war This was of course before the clone wars show, but honestly, the republic commando books dont break the new canon that often iirc. So in my mind most of the Republic Commando lore is still there
The Arc Troopers are very cool soldiers to. You may want to check out Captain Fordo from the Star Wars Clone Wars Volume 1&2 Animated series. His weapons are very potent and his group's combat efficiency is extremely good. Almost Spartan 2 & Astartes level of skill for a guy who doesn't have any body manipulations and augmentations on him.
Republic Commando is like my top 3 star wars games, its just so unique compared to most other games that were made within Star Wars. It almost feels like the same tone as like, COD 4 but as a Star Wars game, with that dark grit paired with a little humor in your squadmates. Commandos bred from a Mandalorian and trained like Mandalorians are a force to be reckoned with. I hope the game gets a sequel and I also don't because Disney wouldn't be very faithful.
I would suggest looking up the dark troopers. The Legends version. It is actually tragic, but basically, the 1st generation were cyborgs, and the components used to make them were clone arc troopers and clone commandoes. Basically, they became mostly droids that fought for the empire with a droid brain.
Speaking of the OST, Rage of the Shadow Warriors is the greatest hype song I've ever heard in a video game. I will die on this hill, didgeridoo and war bongos in hand.
Sev may not have died in Legends. Leaks about the potential Republic Commando 2 has Sev leading an early rebel cell and actually fighting the rest of Delta squad. I really wish we got that game
Since many super soldiers ate based on the impression of Navy SEALs, do the clones also take courses in book writing? Movie script negotiations, coffee or tactical gear company start up? Jokes aside, I've always liked the clone troopers for succeeding despite facing opponents that generally have enough plot armor to rival the Millennium Falcon with 5 protagonists on board. That takes good, unbiased writing.

In order to make this the traditional Mandalorian version, replace "Coruscanta" with "Mandalore". Also, this song gives interesting implications about Mandalore's past. Since it wasn't the Commandos that came up with this, who did? Who thought to make lyrics centering around killing traitors--one of the greatest sins imaginable in Mandalorian culture? Who betrayed Mandalore to such an incredible degree?
@@ladywaffle2210A volcano, and humans. So they had this thing were they wanted to hunt down all humans, because they make good prey. This went well for them, the Taung not the humans. Fun fact for the Bad Batch. When that commando appeared on screen, the accompanying behind the scenes page stated he was inspired by Scorch. Unfortunately someone at Disney didn't like that and in another episode where he appears it is stated he IS Scorch. I am of the opinion that commando is not Scorch. As Pancreas said, doesn't sound like him, doesn't act like him, so it ain't him.
Scorch doesn't have a unique voice to non-clones, this is stated in the Republic Commando novels. The way we hear the members of Delta Squad talk in the game is only how they hear each other as clones and NOT what they sound like to others outside of the GAR. Also, the way Scorch is acting in Bad Batch is pretty on point with how he was in Legends post order 66. After losing Sev on Kashyyyk, Scorch lost most of his sense of humor and became rather bitter.
Do you prefer the Katarn armor with a true energy shield, or do you like the book's approach where it's just the armor's ability to absorb and release heat and other damage?
Ideally I'd go with the KOTOR route of energy shields being very commonplace, but if not then I'd say the latter explanation fits in more with the movies

I can't recommend the Republic Commando book series highly enough; they're easily some of the best EU material ever produced. Karen Traviss gave us a view of the Clone Wars which was far more logically-consistent, nuanced, and believable than anything Lucas or the Mouse ever could, and it's a crime that it ended with Imperial Commando. Her take on Order 66 was nothing short of inspired. You got such stuff as Sep dirty bombs, ARC Troopers given to Jedi commanders as triggermen, counter-Republic financial warfare... it was great
Its unbelievably bizarre to watch people unironically praising the Travissisty books as some minor masterpieces or such. Its borderline surreal considering what's actually written therein.
@@papapalps2415 Eh they aren't perfect and lampoon the Jedi to an absurd degree, but her version of the Clone Wars makes a lot more sense than other media
@@sgtpepper0spray It really, really, really doesn't. And infact, I actually struggle to think of a 'version' of the CW that makes less sense. Although, in that light, what, exactly, do you think she presents the CW as being?
That whole part about 5000 commandos dying because of Jedi tactics on Geonosis was due to Karen Traviss making crap up to make the Jedi look bad. In the actual Republic Commando game, the Jedi on Geonosis sent the commandos on raiding and assassination missions; destroy a factory here, kill some important moron there, blow up a starship, mission over. The Jedi only suck at tactics in Karen Traviss' books because her hatred of the Jedi is only matched by Garth Ennis' hatred of superheroes. So she wrote them as morons because she hates them, whereas every other piece of Legends content regarding the matter portrayed the Jedi as either mid-level generals or sometimes, some of the best.
In the Republic Commando game, we LITERALLY only know that Delta Squad and Theta Squad were sent on spec ops missions, which is consistent with the Karen Traviss novels where Delta, Theta, and many other squads are sent to the factories and catacombs, where many RCs are killed. The Jedi using a number of the RCs as regular infantry on Geonosis, and getting many of them killed in the process, is consistent with a lot of the Clone Wars Multimedia Project stories of the time where the Jedi weren't often very good military commanders and got many of their men killed in their blind charges against enemy lines and other foolish tactics.
@@CloneCommanderCrater1102 False. Much of the Clone Wars Multimedia project depicts Jedi as decent generals, most of whom are conservative with the lives of their men. Anakin's the one who goes on banzai charges against the enemy, and guess what, HIS MEN LOVE HIM! The rest of the Jedi adapt a more defensive stance in battle, preferring to get the most of their men alive out of combat rather than destroying the enemy, hence why seasoned officers like Admiral Tarkin who prefer the total annihilation of the enemy dislike the Jedi for being too squeamish about casualties. Also, the Republic Commando game makes no mention of massive casualties among the Commandos. They don't talk about how Windu led half the Commandos to die; all they did was operator stuff, the kind of stuff they were trained for, the kind of stuff the Jedi sent them on. So no, Karen Traviss is not consistent with the rest of the lore for the Clone Wars Legends continuity. There's a reason why the clones admired their Jedi generals and were mostly regretful over Order 66. "They're good. No words needed. Perfect sync. Like clones in a way. Better. They're the best. That's why they command." ―Republic clone trooper commander "Bly", Star Wars Republic Issue 68 "It's been said that the 501st got the best of the war. We also got the worst. On Felucia, the Seps dug their metal heels into the muck of that alien hellhole and dared the Republic to come in after them. So we did, only to be met with month after month of flesh-eating diseases, shrieking nocturnal predators, and other sights that haunt me to this day. Cut off and for all we knew abandoned by our superiors, our only hope was Aayla Secura, our Jedi commander. Without her iron will, none of us would have come out of that mess with our sanity, or our lives. When her death came, I hope it was quick. She earned that much. When the 501st was finally rotated out of Felucia, Aayla Secura made a point of seeing us off personally, calling us the bravest soldiers she had ever seen. It's a good thing we were wearing helmets, because none of us could bear to look her in the eye." -501st Clone Trooper on Aayla Secura's command of the clones on Felucia, Star Wars Battlefront 2 classic. So yes, massive Clone Commando casualties on Geonosis was Karen Traviss bullshitting off her ass. None of the other Clone Wars media mention it, the movie just shows the clones winning under Jedi leadership, and the Clone Commando game shows that the Jedi DID deploy the Clone Commandos properly, sending them on operator stuff while the Jedi and the regular clones faced the enemy head-on.
I do love me some republic commandos, and I do love me some pancreas video! Sadly, they also always come with Karen Traviss's godawful braindead jedi takes, and I am sad to see those make their way into this video, even in small doses. Still, great video overall.

ARC troopers and Clone Commando’s are just really cool, and I like that they both feel like they fit within the setting perfectly.
Thatd be sick
I always thought of the ARCs as Spartan II equivalents and the commandos as Spartan IIIs.
I would also say that two ARC troopers could take a Spartan II in a fight.
Filoni didn’t make ARC-troopers, they also originated in pre-Filoni canon and feature pretty heavily in the Republic Commando books.

@@samaritan_sys k, I didn’t mention Filoni, I was talking about the Clone Wars Multimedia Project, which is all prequel era material released from Attack of the Clones to the end of 2006, from what I understand.

Mandalorian logic was that since jedi can block lasers let's see how well they do against buckshot and flamethrowers.
@@myduckisonqauck7227Psst, friend, over here. Wanna hear a secret? Quietly now....
Its because it doesn't exist. Mando's using slugthrowers is one of those fandom-generated myths that has become so widely known and 'accepted' that its basically a social contagion, much like the whole 'Vader has a -10 to saving throws against lightning'.
@@myduckisonqauck7227Also, quick sidenote; Kenobi blocking a bullet and getting splattered somewhat was from a new canon comic, not old, and the case you are almost certainly thinking of of Windu vs hypersonic slugs does not involve him getting splattered at all.

Gotta say:
Having Palpatine LOIC'd only to have his contingency plans go into effect, would've been a far more intriguing prequel trilogy.
That *is* exactly what Palpatine wanted them to think.

Granted he still was the first to die out of the trio of Rex, Wolfe, and himself but still man has a stacked resume
I played Republic Conmando's campaign so much as a child I can still quote it as an adult.
Multiplayer was a lot of fun too - always great playing as a Trandoshan!

No, no they did not. That's the normal Dee Bradley Baker voicework. His voiceactor was onlynpaid for use in a game, re using his recorded lines in a TV show would be a contract violation.
Not only was the game great, but the books are fantastic as well. Triple Zero is probably my favorite star wars book to date, and it really fleshed out both thw mandalorians and the clones and their part in the war
This was of course before the clone wars show, but honestly, the republic commando books dont break the new canon that often iirc. So in my mind most of the Republic Commando lore is still there

The Arc Troopers are very cool soldiers to. You may want to check out Captain Fordo from the Star Wars Clone Wars Volume 1&2 Animated series.
If there's one thing I can't stand more than those elves it's those clankers.
I would suggest looking up the dark troopers. The Legends version. It is actually tragic, but basically, the 1st generation were cyborgs, and the components used to make them were clone arc troopers and clone commandoes. Basically, they became mostly droids that fought for the empire with a droid brain.
They had droid brains? That sounds fucking stupid, isn't the whole point of clones and enlisted men is that they aren't dumb battle droids?

Also, this song gives interesting implications about Mandalore's past. Since it wasn't the Commandos that came up with this, who did? Who thought to make lyrics centering around killing traitors--one of the greatest sins imaginable in Mandalorian culture? Who betrayed Mandalore to such an incredible degree?
Actually, the song is from the ancient Mandalorians, originally a species known as the Taung, who originated on Coruscant.
@@CloneCommanderCrater1102 So who betrayed the Taung, and why?
@@ladywaffle2210A volcano, and humans. So they had this thing were they wanted to hunt down all humans, because they make good prey. This went well for them, the Taung not the humans. Fun fact for the Bad Batch. When that commando appeared on screen, the accompanying behind the scenes page stated he was inspired by Scorch.

Man i remember playing republic comando a lot growing up. I still have my OG xbox and copy of this game.
So she wrote them as morons because she hates them, whereas every other piece of Legends content regarding the matter portrayed the Jedi as either mid-level generals or sometimes, some of the best.
her biases (and barely concealed fetish for the clones) definitely tainted all of the sequels. The first book is still amazing.
@@echodelta2172 I never considered her stuff canon. She keeps trying to slap fight with other EU authors like Curtis Saxton and Timothy Zahn.

Fantastic background music choice for the nostalgia video
I do love me some republic commandos, and I do love me some pancreas video!
Sadly, they also always come with Karen Traviss's godawful braindead jedi takes, and I am sad to see those make their way into this video, even in small doses.
Still, great video overall.
"Bad batch" does a good job displaying how that "brain chip" altered the clones behaviour, as it made them less emotional, more robotic and generally more akin to well, clankers, "heck", they became less emotional than the B1 battle droids.. ..The clankers often saying things like "halt, Jedi!", "Roger-Roger!" and so forth.
People can shit on Karen Traviss all they want, I love the story of Omega and the extra lore about Delta as well as the darker way she portrayed Jedi/Republic's corruption.
Shit was dope, great addition to the games
I absolutely love the RC novels!
9:58 "Frankly, I find the idea of a bug that thinks offensive"
Ah, a Starship Troopers reference. Well done, sir. Very well done.
Hey, a video about my favorite Star Wars characters, featuring my favorite Star Wars game!
And dear Lord those Super Battle Droids earned their name in that game.

Your micro-rant on Yoda just unlocked a whole new layer of depth in my head-canon.

Emile a239: I feel a disturbance. As though a man without a pancreas blantantly lied in my presence
AFWTMT’s Star Wars vs. Warhammer 40k has some pretty epic and brutal battle scenes between clones and the Imperial Guard, although sadly the commandos have mostly been cameos so far.
Republic Commando is one of the most underrated FPS in Gaming and I Demand it to be remade.
The books for these guys were absolutely banging
Rule #1: Kill them before they kill you.
Rule #17: Always make sure they're dead.
Rule #23: Never pull sentry duty on an empty stomach.
Rule #39: Never say no to bacta.
Rule #48: Any crash you can walk away from is a good one.
Rule #89: One's an anomaly, two's a trend.
IIRC, in Legends most ageing Clone Commandos and Clone Veterans were supposedly inducted into the Phase-0 Darktrooper program seen in the original Battlefront games.
which was basically "so lets take these old battle-hardened clones, and give them the same Cybernetics as Darth Vader, as well as jump-jets and Laser Shotguns!"
Love republic commando , also I make custom 3.75 commando figures in my free time when I'm feeling inspired. I also made a deceased clone from the acclamator horror themed mission
Been trying to find out what Voda an was from for months now, and am very glad to finally figure out where I heard it from. Thanks for the great video as usual.
9:39 what’s funny is that they are now extinct thanks to the empire. Or at least hyper endangered and you helped in that
You made me remember one of the best FPS games I've ever played, thank you.
Fun fact, it was planned that Sev survived and founded the rebellion with General Tarful, that was going to be the sequel
Vode An! For the Republic! As Jango Fett said, "You need specialists, men without fear."
Omega squad + their favorite Jedi on their first mission as a squad (each member was the lone survivor of their birth squad on Geonosis) obliterated a CIS bioweapons lab and pretty much the entirety of Separatist forces on the planet that lab was located on. These boys were badass and wore straight black (at least by the second book) all the commandos were badass. The commando job description on the back of one of the Republic Commando books reads "Stone-cold soldiers who go where no one else would, to do what no one else could"
And a side note one of the Omega boys made a baby with a Jedi so that's neat.
@@The_Elite_EmeraldYep! RC-1136 Darman and Etain Tur-Mukan.
I love Republic Commando soundtrack because all of it's really good and I can sing along to half of it.
The Vode An actually is a mandalorian war song. The Commando version simply replaced Mandalore (Manda'yaim) with Coruscant (Coruscanta)
