    I have a 2020 diesel...absolutely phenomenal highway cruiser. But this turbo petrol is something else...it goes like a cut cat!!

      Agree performs really well.

    It's a little old school inside and out but I actually find that a breath of fresh air - on the inside at least.
    And they drive well, go well, are well built and mechanically simple. I rate these.

    We owned a 2021 diesel for a while. Very excellent car apart from its uncomfortable seats! They changed them a bit with the facelift which did improve them a lot, but they were the main reason we sold it (that, and I wanted to be able to afford my Fiesta ST)
    They’re just too short on thigh support and the seat base is too flat. I prefer a bit of rake on the seat base so you feel like you’re sitting in the seat not on it.

    Beating a Toyota RAV-4 over there?
    Wow, Australians really love Mazda

    Drivers car without all the fancy tech with a reliable power train that has been used for so long for obvious reasons.

    Wonder how you’d feel doing a back to back with the turbo Outback ? Recently did & driving wise quite liked the Outback. Warnings in Outback were more subtle, seat & ride comfort were preferable (didn’t say better, just my preference), feels quicker, massive boot, visibility seems better, but so much cladding. Plus it’s really a wagon, wagons aren’t cool.

    Solid ye I have a cx9 and it does 0-100 in similar time but yes the whole fuel thing is confusing I read that it’s 227ps on 87 then 250ps on 93 but I think that’s American

    • @XenoDeki
      @XenoDeki 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Those are American octane ratings (since they use AKI - Active Knock Index over there).

      @@XenoDeki so it's a completely different rating?

    Wouldn't complain about that fake carbon fiber trim. Better than the piano black they used to do and that manufacturer's just seem to love way too much

      @@cam181990 Yeah that piano black stuff gets scratched up pretty quick. In this case I just meant the carbon-look hints at its age.

    Hi mate, great video.
    Just a quick Q, when testing the cx-5, which one you use, 91 or 98 octane fuel? Previous testing (2022 g35 models) was 7.5s, that's a huge power increasing.

      They got small turbos on them, they run out of puff over 5000rpm, almost like a diesel. Good for traffic though

      All cars expensive these days. Even chinese brand, except mg3, are all 25k to 30k plus. Look at rav 4 hybrid and honda crv, there top trim is 60k plus.

    I like the 2.5T, but wouldn't own it out of warranty. Fair few reports of them having cracked heads which is a $6k to $7k job. No thanks

      Yep there were some problems with that engine from 2018-20 that led to a TSB being issued, and a fair few cylinder heads / engines being replaced. I can’t find any significant issues after that.

    • @YZJB
      @YZJB 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      They updated the cylinder head casting around 2020. No further issues in newer models

    Hola Brett saludos desde Chile, excelente vídeo, personalmente prefiero Forester por encima de CX-5 aunque no se me hace un mal producto, no se si en tu mercado aún ofrezcan versiones 2.0 manual o 2.2D manual.
    Saludos!!!👋🏻

    This powertrain was great 5 years ago, getting old hat now.
    Hybrids should be the nee turbo, Mazda need to catch up and release 2.5L hybrids to stay relevant

      Hybrids are only relevant to appease the global warming gods.
      I've got this exact powertrain in my 2023 mazda 6 and it easily gets 7.2 litres per 100km on country trips and even sometimes in city driving off peak.
      Great fuel economy with better performance than an EL 1999 4.9 litre tickford falcon V8 if you put your foot down when you need it.
      The hybrids are adding massive complexity to modern car powertrains and this will impact servicing and reliability down the track.

    Trusty analog gagues , mazda and toyota are the only brands that get away with analog gagues in car reviews. For Every other brand the reviewer gonna say the interior looks dated.
    The fuel consumption in this mazda is around 22mpg mixed driving which is pretty bad. You are better off getting a outlander phev or rav 4 hybrid.
    You get the acceleration without the heavy fuel penalty.
