- EDIT: Replacing the hub to halfshaft gaskets alone, as shown in this video, was not sufficient to cure the oil leak. To cure the leak I had to upgrade the hubs entirely to the later type which incorporate an O-ring seal, which I demonstrate in Part 2: • Morris Minor Rear Hub ... . However, everything covered in this video is still valid and most is not re-covered in Part 2.
I noticed that both of the halfshafts were leaking gear oil when servicing the Minor, the driver's side leaking worse. This is how to repair this issue if the oil is leaking between the hub and the halfshaft.
This was probably a common issue, as they modified the hubs to accommodate an O-Ring on later cars to improve the seal. If the problem persists I will upgrade to the later hubs and show how to do that.

This took me back many years to when I attempted the same thing in my dads tiny garage. Jacked up the car, got the wheels and brakes removed and then realised there wasn't enough room to pull the shafts out.
There is a drain hole on the rear back plate to ensure if the oil seal fails then any oil comes out of there and doesnt contaminate the drums. Obviously if the half shaft (paper gasket) fails then yes it will contaminate the brakes. I recently cleaned mine out by poking a small screwdriver in the hole as they do get blocked up. I also recently changed the rear wheel bearings and oil seals on my Moggy. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to do.

How about putting something on the floor to collect the oil and cleaning solution instead of letting drip into the ground (environment friendlier), and use brake cleaner
