Absolutely fantastic. I love that his bench vise is two of his buddies, and that the overspray from the paint just drifted onto the side of the truck in the background, and that when the seal didn't fit, there was no pause in the work--just get the torch! LOVE IT!!!

This is common in india. The Garage in front of my house in india has a similar setup and does the same. People in India don't learn from books they learn from others and while working so they are all skills. Plus no bs health n safety we have in the west. So they can work in flip-flops.

After watching many time lapse videos of US big blocks rebuilds in sterile workshops with the latest and greatest full-auto equipment and computer supported tuning, this video made me smile from ear to ear 😁!! Honest hard manual work outside on a classic English engine... I really enjoyed watching this vid, job well done!
It made me think of dismantling my Triumph T140E engine in my shed...

It's the way i do it, nothin fancy a good workbench made solid, get my cast iron
engine upon it with a hoist, wrenches, rags torque wrench carb cleaner an all that
good stuff an start tearing into it, it's not the space shuttle as tarylfixesall says.
it's the only real way ta learn about this stuff, putting a compression gage on the
engine and comparing readings when valves have been refaced and lapped, proper
valve lash, maybe a ring job? pull apart the carb and clean out Gerty's emulsion tube
properly serviced air cleaner, its all good. I work on portable generators so I know
you have to have a well running engine to turn a genny of rated KW.

This brings back memories of repairing my first cars engine. No engine stand, bench or even a workshop, just basic hand tools. Looks primitive, but it works with these simple engines. Having those engine remanufacturer tools at the end were a luxury I never had.

Back in the mid-60s when I moved to Texas had a girlfriend whose dad was a church of Christ preacher. He had a couple of Morris minors that he enjoyed rehabbing. Watched him go through the engine on one of them and at the time I kind of chuckled because I was running a big Chrysler V8. I thought his engine looked like the starter on my car. His cars are probably still running. Mines probably been scrapped, put on a steamer to Japan rebuilt into a new car, worn out shipped back remelted into yet another new car. Enjoyed the video!

Looks good. I do have one warning though.
    On rod and main bearings..
NEVER put oil on the side that does not have a a rotating surface.
Such as when you go to install your crank and rod bearings, they need to be DRY.
It can cause you to spin a bearing because the excess oil can force the bearing away from its mounting surface.
    Speaking from past experience.
    :)

Brings back memories...my father was an engine fitter working for Rover and so he didn't mind taking engines apart and putting them back together in the early 60's, teaching me in the process. He never used a torque wrench reckoning his "feel" was more accurate.
Good 'ole A series 803cc engine: three main bearings and tiny big-end bearings (didn't last long on the new-fangled motorways) plus no tensioner on the timing belt. Thankfully improved over the years but they always had a good appetite for oil IMHO.

Great little engines. Absolutely nothing fancy, 950ccs of ho-hum reliability. Joseph Lucas (the prince of darkness) electrics You could use leads from a carpenter pencil glued together for dynamo brushes, and other cob-ups that got you going and lasted pretty well. Notice the projection on the rear of the starter. It was squared off so you could put a wrench on it and turn it backwards if the starter drive got stuck (no kidding) there was even a wrench in the tool kit to fit it. Built one in my dorm room in engineering school, drove the RA nuts. Great fun. Never knew what MOWOG stood for, but I remember it. Thanks for the memories.

Lovely video. These engines are so simple, easy to work on. On a Morris Minor you can actually take the front panels of the car off and climb in with the engine 😂

It's an light duty motor. I doubt they'll be going over 120 kph for prolonged periods of time. It'll be fine.

Only complete idiots would oil the back of bearing shells. It's a catalogue of mistakes. There are videos on you tube that show how to to it properly.

No electronics...gas and spark and away you go...well, almost that simple.

Yup. Just add compression and the right timing and you're good to go!

With diesel you don't even need spark. You need compression and fuel. Simplest engine ever

@Daver G its not that hard to get it to seal, i have a vw d24 and i must say, renovating one of thosenis allot of work, there is allot to think about, and for gods sake, dont touch the diesel pump if you dont know what you are doing!

    • @dieselgeezer18
      @dieselgeezer18 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@Daver G EVERY PART OF an engine has to be precisely machined. Even electric motors. The main shaft, bearings, coils have to be precisely machined and put together or the motor will shake it self apart or wear out quickly. Gas cars need pumps too which are ELECTRIC and a lot more complex than a diesel. Mechanical Diesel fuel pumps are extremely simple. There is a fucking difference between simple and precise. WE ARE NOT talking about how precisely they are made. You are not going to build the broken part of a fuel pump from scratch. You will buy those VERY precisely made parts and then put them into the pump. The pump is VERY simple. It is made from a few components which are VERY precise. Precision means reliability and long life. Got an old Toyota hilux from 1997. The MECHANICAL fuel pump still works. Got a tractor from 1970. The MECHANICAL fuel pump still works. On the other side electrical fuel pumps are cheaply made from plastic and the electric motors usually burn out

@Balage78Szfvar you can start a diesel without glow plugs. You can heat the intake and then crank it. It will start after many cranks. But the point is that it will start. Also you can get someone to push the car and then throw it into gear. It will start imediately
