What a night the day that day November 30, 2011 at the Palau. Perhaps the best concert that Sant Andreu has given in its entire history, together with the "out of competition" for the 15th anniversary. I have already compiled almost a dozen videos of different songs. Jesse Davis, Wycliffe Gordon and Ricard Gili with the kids from the band from that wonderful and unrepeatable era, Andrea Motis and Alba Armengou in the lead, singing, playing and even dancing, one an adolescent and the other a girl, but with the talent and mastery of the stage only reserved for geniuses appointed by the gods. In this particular video Andrea plays a beautiful and evocative Sir Duke song on alto sax, hand in hand with the great (in every way) Jesse Davis. And from face to face, without detracting at all, fully enduring the comparison with the consecrated American musician. And only 16 years old. Davis's looks and smiles, his sincere congratulations to Andrea at the end of the song, said it all: a star had been born.
Andrea was so young here and yet her sensitivity is outstanding. She has a natural ability to display the mood of any song through sax, trumpet or her voice. There's a big difference between that and just hitting the notes.
I've just sobbed my way through this twice and can't take any more! How do these musicians convey so much emotion and how can young Andrea be so astonishingly good. I'm breathless and in awe of such talent. My Dad was a sax player of great talent and it was like listening to him again. What talent, both of them reflected each other's feel and tone and that's rarely heard.
Magnificent! Beautiful sax playing from both of them. Andrea is fantastic on sax, I wish she play more saxophone. During lockdown I have seen TH-cam videos of Ms Motis on Alto sax and tenor sax, trumpet, vocals and then find that she also writes songs (words and music). It is insane that someone has so much talent. I will try to get to see her play live if this band comes to England and if this virus ever ends! Mr Chamorro, these young people who are younger than my children are fantastic and make me think that there is still a really great future for this type of music which I love.
This is totally insane to watch these kids play like this I've been a musician close to 40 years and by watching this makes want to retire Mr CHAMORRO you are doing one heck of a job buy teaching these kids the gift of music
@@susiearviso3032 A different gendre, not jazz nor was she playing the saxophone. I don't see the relevance, why not reference Maria Callas in that case?

I love her vocals and trumpet playing, but this soulful sax is the best. It bring me to tears each time I hear it, especially when he kisses her calls her “baby girl”.
I was bought up surrounded by classical music and, via my brother, jazz. High levels of muscianship and hard won technique is taken for granted in the classical genre. People might assume that in jazz that very high level of technique is not so vital, but remember that in jazz it is not merely playing the right notes , there are considerable subtleties in phrasing and intonation and of course marrying this with improvisation. As someone commented on another post about Andrea, "Does she realise how good she is" . And what adds an endearing quality to her performances is her modesty understated reaction to audience appreciation.
Devon Dandy Hello! Yes, Andrea is an amazing talent! And getting better every year.:)) She is so humble, yes and maybe shy? But I would really like to see all Joan's ladies give an occasional glance or quick smile to their audience. Having been on both sides of the stage I know it makes a difference to everyone's enjoyment! :))
@@aileen694 Aileen a very valid comment, although in some videos they do appear more demonstrative at the end of a piece, especially where there is a live audience. Carla is the most taciturn, but Rita, Joana, and Eva show their pleasure quite often.

I can't hold the tears back. For a minute I thought Johnny was back with us. Andrea captured it perfectly. I have tried to sound that sweet for decades, and could never come this close. Johnny has been gone since 1969...I thought the world would never hear anything like this again.Thank you all so much. Good Jazz lives on and on forever.
My comment was specifically to towards Andrea as she was the soloist. However having only discovered Joan Chamorro (I think that's you - sorry) a couple weeks ago, I think you all are wonderfully amazing. You bring beautiful music to my soul! I have extremely good quality headphones that I just sit back and soak up all those harmonies and overtones. Cheers
Just now I discovered this track, twelve years late. Lis'nin 'n' watching Andreas solo starting @ 1:00 ( & 2nd time @ 2:50 ) is overwhelming. She's soo deep in the tunes, emotionally phrasing every chord, ev'ry note. Think, if not the best track ever, it's at least one of her ever greatest - just announcing what she will give when finally grown up.
Andrea Motis is fantastic!!! I love her voice, tones on the trumpet and Saxophone. She's a newborn star. Please help her stay away from drugs and narcotics!
I would hope she is smart enough not to touch those! She is such a talent, and is probably quite busy, hopefully, too busy to indulge in drugs. Sadly, a lot of musicians THINK drugs enhance their performance, but it truly doesn't, it just makes them think that! I have been a musician my whole life, but was never even tempted with drugs. But I know it can really be a problem for many performers.
Watched this now maybe six times , maybe twelve times and when it started I just reflexively went Oh My Gosh ! It just sweeps over you as do so many of Andrea's performances with Joan Chamorro. Youth band or pro band - - all so amazing. Takes ones breath away . Takes my breath away anyway .

Another fine and heartfelt performance by Andrea nad Jesse. The way Andrea plays this tune is as if she had experienced some event that ended really too soon. Thanks to the entire band for this lovely, insightful performance.
Just stunning how someone so young can play so well. Thought I was listening to Johnny Hodges. Love the way Andrea can bend notes. Joan, what joy and beauty you have brought into this world. What a legacy you are creating. Thank you!!
