Diana Krall has had a long time fascination with bossa nova, a type of music which perfectly suits her sophisticated yet sensual style. This culminated in her new studio album Quiet Nights (released by Verve in spring 2009) and in this stunning concert filmed in the home of the bossa nova, Rio de Janeiro, in November 2008. Accompanied by her band and an orchestra, Diana Krall delivers a superb set of standards in true bossa nova style but clearly bearing her unique stamp.

Tabris Chen I agree. I have listened to this recording 100 times. Diana Krall is a phenomenal singer. I really liked the audience singing. I speak French as a second language. Portuguese is supposedly once of the romance languages (latin based). If it is, I can never see any similarities with it to French or Spanish. Although, I Googled the lyrics from this song and found a spot where it had the English and Portuguese lyrics side by side. What these people sang, I couldn't see in the lyrics that showed on the website.
Read Portuguese before making such a comment. It's more similar to Italian and Spanish than French is sound wise. Written they are all very similar. The sounds of Portuguese (both from Brazil & Portugal) have sounds that are not present in the other languages. Hence why you do not pick up on it.

Spent a week in Salvador where my wife lived as a teen. The city throbbed with polyrthymic percussion. We saw a street concert by Olodum, we watched young men dance the capoeria. Even at a restaurant, a waiter was carrying an empty milk carton back to the kitchen, tapping out a nice beat on it as he walked. No people know musical timing as well as Brazilians -- No One. They can clap to the music anytime they want. Because they CAN.

Who would have had this as a hit in the 1960s? I remember this song and most of the lyrics came right back to me and I'm a SS now. LOL But I remember this would play while I was in the car waiting for my Mama who was a school teacher when she had to do bus duty. Nice and warm in the car and this song and Strangers in the Night ( I KNOW who Frank Sinatra is). So many memories. Thanks Diana I just discovered you and you are such a cool gal. :-)
