Iteso-Japadhola tension high in Tororo over planned Tieng Adhola fundraising event

Police have deployed heavily in Tororo Municipality ahead of a planned fundraising for the construction of a palace for Japadhola cultural leader. The planned event is being opposed by the Iteso community in the district who say the authorities prevented them from carrying out a similar activity in the same venue last year. They say allowing the event to go ahead would be construed as a sign of provocation. The Iteso and Japadhola communities in Tororo district have been at loggerheads over the control of Tororo Municipality, which both communities claim to be rightfully within their respective spheres of influence
