I just flew southwest last week and had all my ammo in my pmags. TSA just requires the ammo is stored in something that was designed to hold it and is fully enclosed. I didn’t see any requirements from southwest and have flown in this manner for years with no no issue
I am glad SilencerShop is answering comments here. My dealings with them leave me thinking they are a bunch of know-it-all punks that won't listen and don't do anything to fix their problems.
Here is reality on the Form 20. I am a retired federal officer. In 29 years as a federal officer (not ATF) I have NEVER EVEN ONCE heard of or seen a federal prosecution solely for failure to file a Form 20. If you have an approved Form 1 or Form 4 you’re good. A Form 20 (while technically needed u see travel rules) is just not a big deal. Just isn’t. Also…local and state police do NOT HAVE ACCESS to the NFRTR. That means your Form 1 or Form 4 is what you show because if you don’t have that, no officer in the field can look it up. Even the dispatcher cannot look up access to the NFRTR.
@@SilencerShop Pro Tip: get out your phone and take a photo of your approved Form 4 or Form 1 and then email it to yourself. That way it’s always on your iCloud and your email. You’ll have access to it anywhere in the world!!!!! You can login on your computer to download it or your can show the officer on your phone. Take a color copy of your approved form to the FedEx Store and have them “shrink it”. That way you can also store a very small color copy of the form in your MagPul gun grip compartment and you can also stick a small color copy on your gun bag!!!!
You don't have to work LE to know that some LEOs will write citations for all sorts of things. We had one write up a bunch of us for shooting firearms on BLM property eventhough we weren't on BLM property. The judge knew it but it still cost pretty pennies and hours out of work as well as ulcers and other unnecessary stress.
@SilencerShop I don't think you can use TSA locks if you take their wording very literal. I think it used to say that only you should have a key to the lock, but they might've added something to say tsa locks are good now.
I've flown coast to coast with firearms close to 100 times and never had an issue. I fly exclusively with Delta and they always seem to have well-trained ticket agents that are very helpful. Also, they allow you to keep magazines loaded with ammo which is nice. I've flown with suppressors a few times and the only airport I ever had issues with was Jacksonville, FL. I had boarded my flight and TSA came aboard and pulled me off the flight before we left the gate. I had a copy of my paperwork in the box with the suppressor and the TSA supervisor seemed to be upset that I had all my documents in order. No idea what he was looking for but once they looked at everything, Delta took care of me and even booked me in first class on a later flight (although it was not their fault at all). I would say just look for airlines that have firearm policies you like and stick with them. I have heard other companies are not nearly as friendly as Delta when it comes to firearms and flying.
I'm from PA flying out of NY, to AK for a sheep hunt. Would I be legal to have a suppressor in my possession in New York in that scenario as long as it's not being used in NY?
If suppressors require the extra tax stamp and background check. Then why do they let you freely move around with it when the other stuff requires permission.
Specific rules on tsa and ammo is that it can’t be loose , or has to be in original packaging, also with regards to loaded mags, tsa does allow you to have loaded mags, but some airlines like American do not.
It is crazy how there is no SOP with the TSA goons. A couple of years ago, I flew from DFW to Minneapolis with a declared handgun in my baggage. No issues at all leaving from DFW. A week later on my return trip from Minneapolis to DFW, I get called out to a screening room to open my luggage and secure firearm case to give a "show and tell" of my G48 to the boys.
At some point ATF started issuing electronic tax stamps, from which I received color copies from the FFLs. On the stamp in ink, ATF agent writes the serial number of the item, their initials, and the date of approval
What if you are driving through a state that doesn't allow suppressors? I live in Wisconsin, and let's say I was traveling to Virginia, do I have to go around Illinois, or can I drive through?
Can you drive through a state that doesn’t allow suppressors if your final destination is a state that allows suppressors? Going from PA to VT comes to mind.
Get an air tag. I prefer flying with a gun after my first experience doing so going to SHOT this year. Way easier than standing in line at the carousel. Just go to the oversize bag claim and get your bag. Bag goes straight from the check in, thru secondary security and then on the plane. No getting lost in the maze of baggage conveyors.
I had a 2A attorney give counsel telling me that in addition to a copy of the form 4 on your person when you were carrying an NFA item, you should also have a copy of the trust on your person, if the item was registered that way. Yes as your Form 4 will have the Trust name on it. Not yours. Your SinglenShot Trust will tie you to the Silencer. You usually get your Trust around the same time as your Docu Sign and it'll all be stated in there.
@@Keep_It_Loaded Super - Thanks. I got the Docusign and trust 2 days after the online purchase, but still have not seen the ReadyToCertify email after nearly 3 weeks. Flying SW Air to move tax stamp items to another state, asking at check-in, was told the Pelican case would exit via carousel- but had to go to the lost luggage office, to retrieve it.
@@SilencerShop My case was the Pelican carry-on hard-sized case. Inside, a 300 block out SBR receiver, and six suppressors, copies of all text stamps and the basic document for the trust. Late March 2020, only seven passengers total on the plane - COVID. Nice!
What about NFA Trust docs? SS only mentions taking copies of Form 4s. But the Form4 only lists the Transferee as the Trust. So, I can see anyone asking for a Form 4 saying “well, how do I know you’re a part of this Trust?”
4:14 flying with loaded magazines is ok with the TSA - just make sure none of the ammunition is loose/exposed… so mag covers, mag case/pocket, taped over, etc. They just don’t want loose ammo floating around.

Can even use the original mfg case if its lockable. I just used a flambeau cheapy from Dunhams. You do have to put a lock on each part of the case that is provisioned for a lock though.
