Liked your Chanel about Cantonese language, I learnt Cantonese as mother language but lost a lot because I grew up outside China and my main language is Spanish, my parents used to talk Cantonese at home and I could understand a lot by hearing but they past away and nobody speak this in my actual family so hearing your lesson or video I can remember again my Cantonese, very thanks you for do this in TH-cam , I now subscribed to your Chanel and follow you and also have to tell you you have a great pronunciation as a native people of China!

Thank you! My American wife will love this. She wants to learn Canto, especially to communicate with my parents, but has a hard time with the tones.

I stumbled upon your channel by accident and I just want to put a big fat thank you here! 😊 My partner's family speak Cantonese and it's so frustrating not being able to understand 😣😣
Trying to learn has been so hard with very few 'quality' resources for complete begginers. You're so easy to follow and understand.
I hope you keep this up because the videos you've made so far are gold 🙌🙌❤️

Thank you so much!! It means a lot to me that you took the time to comment! I've been busier than I thought this weekend, but I'll be getting some new ones up hopefully tomorrow. :)
And I totally feel your frustration -- the reason I came to Hong Kong was friends of mine at university were from here, and while we were all studying together in the US, it used to drive me crazy when they would just naturally change into Cantonese when we were all together, even though their English was perfect. I'd be like "hello?? remember me!!??" LOL Then I came to Hong Kong and was even more determined to learn. :)
Thanks again, and if there's anything in particular you'd like me to do a video on, let me know!

      Cantonese Corner aw don't worry!!
But yes oh my gosh it's so frustrating when you hear your name or gwai moi mid sentence and you're just like 'me? What?' 😂😂🙈🙈
And yeah I understand the determination! I think I've spent about 3-4 months total in HK over different trips and it's SO much easier to learn when you're surrounded by it all.. my partner's family speak Hakka also which is a WHOLE new kettle of fish, so I think I'll just stick to Cantonese for now haha 😂😂
But if you do a video on basic sentence structure rules that would be great! My Cantonese is mostly basic phrases and the odd word so learning to properly structure sentences would be amazing! ❤️

You're right - so much easier when you're in the middle of it all! I've heard Hakka being spoken and yes, I think I'd stick with Cantonese, too :) OK! I'll add a sentence-structure video to my list ... and will be incorporating it into the "Let's Talk Cantonese" series I'm working on. :)

That was so helpful, I'll definitely put the Máh faáhn phrase to good use! Thank you so much!
I got the directions down thanks to your video on the nursery rhyme too! :)

    • @CantoneseCorner

I'm so glad you thought so! I like how you used the accent marks on the mah faahn -- how did you do that? I know how to do it in Word, but how do you do it here? Sometimes I write the words for the characters under the video and it would be good to be able to include them!

Press and hold the accent key next to the question mark key, then type the letter while holding it down and the accent will appear on the letter! Hope that helps :) I'm not 100% sure if it works the same way on a keyboard that is not european though.

I'm using a mac so while I don't have an accent key, I found out if I just hold the letter I want to accent down, a menu of options will appear and then I can just choose the one I want -- who knew! lol Thanks so much or.... Mh gòi saai!! :)
