It’s so hard to explain to people who were never part of the pop-punk/emo/scenecore scene just exactly how pervasive grooming and sexual assault of underage fans was throughout the early 2000’s to early 2010’s, and how much of it was completely out in the open. ATL and their tour bus full of bras from (definitely mostly underage) fans always gave me a bad vibe, but myself and many others were hesitant to speak on our discomfort because being ostracized from the scene was such a real threat. Scene/emo/pop-punk/screamo/whatever you wanna call it- we all know these genres and this subculture attract young people who are feeling alone and hopeless, but all too often those kids end up being preyed upon instead of protected. Predators and groomers know they have an easy target in these kids, that’s what attracts them to this genre and this subculture. It’s about fucking time we start taking this scene back. Make predators afraid to show face at any show.
This is only the beginning. For all the predators in the scene I hope they start to feel their walls closing in on them and they feel nothing but fear. The scene needs to be purged of them and this is the start!

"slap on the wrist, none gives a shit" describes my experince with adult domestic abuse. gonna trauma dump/trigger warning for DA. My ex punched me in the face and left me with a skull fracture, I had to wait 12 hrs to be seen by a doctor where I had to talk through the experince again even though she knew I had given statements because at that time the police had to get involved to speed up the process so they could get medical evidence, but I had to tell her so she'd know what had happened. My abuser spent less time in jail than I did in A&E. The police didnt even tell me the case was dropped, eventually the womens shelter had to talk to the police to tell me.

Though some abusers are called out and scrubbed from the industry it feels like nowadays even if they get called out two months later they are back to hurt again. They are physically mature by 16 and don't show signs of aging until 24 (seriously, read a book). With all the fake ids floating around at shows it's not surprising that mistakes happen.
If I was in a touring band I'd just never take a chance on someone who doesn't look at least 30, it just isn't worth the risk because people are just too stupid to understand biological reality these days, and people have forgotten what SA actually is. It's an insult to people who have actually been abused when they're kids (like me), and if you went through what I did you wouldn't be confused about it at all. The real thing is violent and traumatic, it stays with you for life, it's not like "oopsie, I'm not sure if I'm quite old enough for this but here's my fake i.d".

My ex punched me in the face and left me with a skull fracture, I had to wait 12 hrs to be seen by a doctor where I had to talk through the experince again even though she knew I had given statements because at that time the police had to get involved to speed up the process so they could get medical evidence, but I had to tell her so she'd know what had happened. My abuser spent less time in jail than I did in A&E. The police didnt even tell me the case was dropped, eventually the womens shelter had to talk to the police to tell me.
