Making and installing rust repair panels on this 60 year old EH

- This is the third episode in the build series that follows my journey as a backyard restorer, restoring a 1964 EH Holden panel van that holds sentimental value as it was originally started by my panel beater dad, who has passed.
In this video, I work on the rear quarter and use some newly acquired tools to help. I cut and fit up a replacement panel and weld it in. I also start to restore the doors, having to custom make sections to restore it properly.
I share what I am learning along the way and the mistakes I make in order to show you, that anyone can have a crack at this type of restoration (if they have the patience!). I am not a panel beater by any stretch, but love spending the time in the shed restoring these old classics.

Sweet its not just the work your doing on the van it's producing video content as well
Thanks for taking the time to show your work
Cheers Dave
Appreciate the message mate. Thanks for the support
Stumbled across your channel looking for interesting car stuff, you got my attention straight away. I remember talking to a bloke from Moree at Wintersun 15 odd years ago who was doing V6 conversions, if it's the same fella, and I assume it is, it's great to see him kick on and build his business.
Liking your video and I'll be watching the old van build with interest. Best of luck and keep the memories of your dad alive.
Thanks John and thanks for tuning in! I can confirm that it is the same guy as Dad bought a conversion kit from him some 22 years ago too!
Speaking of Dad…it’s 5 years today since we lost him so thinking of him today more than ever. Just waiting on some parts to arrive before filming some more so stay tuned!
It’s all about heat control and I always put larger drain holes in slightly modified love how you used mig over the years I’ve learned how to panel beat left or right hand so the tail light hole 🕳 is always a good access hole for your hand in EH or EJ as eh ute and van had the ej taillights
I found two good front eh doors for my Ute but definitely will be removing the skins and repairing the frames and epoxy primer then putting the new skins on
I can’t wait to start on my EH ute will get a custom rear floor and chassis 4 link and will be running the mighty vk 3.3 black engine with the better crank and rods and 12 port head definitely modified with triple Webber’s
Nice work, I wish I had those skills
Nice to see a new channel
Thanks mate and thanks for watching!
Great work bud👍
Thanks mate
Mate, I've been looking at doing a EH ute resto. V6 Conversions in Moree Is where I will be going for the chassis upgrades as well. I'm looking to go with a VK45 power plant though. Keep the episodes coming would really like to know about the problem areas I need to concentrate on.
Will do mate and thanks for tuning in! Cant wait to get my new bits soon! 💪🏼. Good luck with your build too. Keep us posted on Facebook or Instagram
Skillo you ledge. Loving your vids. Welding newbie here. After welding in the new section at the bottom of your door, did you reapply your weld through primer or use another product?
Hey mate. Thanks for tuning in and supporting the channel!
Yeah I coated the inside of sill panel with POR15 rust converter and preventive and then sprayed weld through primer on the areas to be welded such as the plug welds. Then afterwards, Dad used to spray some cold gal primer to stop flash rust, but most times I haven’t bothered. I will be giving it a quick hit with sandpaper to remove any flash rust before epoxy coating it. I can get away with bare metal for a bit as there is not much humidity in Wallan 😂. But in an ideal world, epoxy straight away or a product called deoxidine.
No expert by any stretch, but that’s what I’ve picked up 😉
@@skillosshed thank you for the reply and the information. Your EH is coming up the goods. Great channel.
Don’t spose you kept ya stencil for the straight formed section of the bottom door did ya ? I Would be interested in purchasing 2 straight sections off ya
I didn’t mate sorry, but reckon I could do it again? Let me know if you’re interested via message
