I'm a retired Fitter/Machinist with a lifetime obsession with EH Holdens and GTR Toranas that I never owned, except in my imagination. The last Special sedan went bye bye forever (insert wailing noise and tears here) in !978. Watching this fella is amazing. I probably shouldn't watch it, it's not good for me.

Amazing. I’m a cranky ole retired mechanic and there’s no way I’m ever gonna do this any more but nice work is always a pleasure to watch. You deserve more subs. Word is gonna get around.

You have to be special devoted people to do this type of work. To me it is a work of Art when you need people like this fellow to bring a vehicle back to life, really they are Doctors of the Motor Vehicle industry. I am glad to have known theses Doctors as they have brought back to life several utes .for me. Great to see another ute coming back to life, great work !

    An awesome video.
I'm doing a 67 split window kombi panel at the moment. So seeing you tackle your door skins and gaps makes mine seem a bit less daunting.

that's the best i've ever seen gapping the door skins (folding the edges better). most i've seen cut/trim and end up welding them to the frame edge or they just seem to fit perfectly

Great work, you make it look easy. The only thing is never use silicone for drip check, most silicones cause rust because they are acidic and they will also give you hell painting with fish eyes. There is a proper automotive caulk for the seal.

Nice Job, i see they have pneumatic tools to roll them over now, i have never used one myself, but a friend modified one of those straight needle scalers to do it years back, used a car engine valve for the hammer face..it worked reasonably well.

Awesome vid , especially showing everyone how to trim and set up the frame before setting up the skin, I do have a couple of questions, I don’t know how many hundreds of skins I’ve done over the years but there was a couple of things I noticed, you started rolling the edge at the front top and started to work your way round, the last time I did that was when I was an apprentice because I found that by the time you get to the back bottom corner it’s grown about three mil, just my observation but I would always roll over the two tops first and then the bottom corners and then move around the skin filling it in, it will stay where it’s put, also you talked about sealing the door straight after rolling it over, did you welded the skin to the frame cos that’s going to flop around like an old nuns nasty, sorry you just didn’t show it,,,

a good tip to prevent rust between the door skin and shell is use seam sealer inside the door leaving a opening for the drains i've been doing this for years and it works well better than relying on the paint to stop water getting between them
gaps should be about 4-5 mills

Great work mate. I don’t know if there’s ever a way to get rid of the old hinge creek. Is it the way the steel strip rubs on the top of the hinge itself??

Amazazing work as always. Your going to have, without a doubt more people with Old School Cars making inquiries about your work, attention to Detail aswell as its what we all want on our pride and joy Old School Cars.
A quality job done right for the money handed over.
Your a rarity these days to find someone that has passion and pride in there work.
Can I ask have you ever done any XW XY GT Falcons to a restoration build ?
Or XC GXL to restore to original ? And also who do you recommend for this type of vehicle to be repainted in Melbourne that is of the highest quality like yourself ?
    Well Done.

Like the Video Pete, great work as usual. Just a quick question. Why the temporary brace with turnbuckle in the window opening? Was it just to hold the door shape while skinning the door?

    • @ProShop1
      @ProShop1  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Good spotting Paul. I forget to add that to the video but yeah your right. The door sprung open when I removed the outer skin so I used the turn buckle to hold it in place while I put on the new skin.

After having an EJ ute as my first car, i would love to see someone stretch the cab and doors a little to give it the proportions and room it needs, i always felt it was just too cramped in the cab and lscked the balance of door rear quarters look

Another great ep. For me, I think it loses a lot of it's identity losing the quarter windows. I didn't like it when they stopped using them and went to single pane, especially if it was raining and you could open them a crack for ventilation and to exchange the air to help defog the screen due to the fan resistors burning out ;-)
