I don't think anyone has mentioned the irony in that prior to learning Rick's backstory a lot of people theorised that Evil Morty was his original Morty, but it turned out Rick had no original Morty and Evil Morty wanted him for completely unrelated reasons. Now we get the reveal that Morty's original Rick is Evil Rick / Rick Prime - which I don't think anyone theorised despite it basically being the reversed situation of an old theory.
The evil morty theory isn't done yet. Rick showed up when morty was a teen, but rick has clear memories and birdperson had a picture of a baby morty with rick. Also I can't prove it, but I had that mortys real rick killed ours ricks family theory since season 3s premiere. You have no idea how stoked I've been watching it play out.
In season 1 Rick says "it makes sense that the Rickest Rick would have the Mortiest Morty". He wasn't talking about himself, he was talking about the Rick from the Cronenberg Dimension

"Ah you must be a Jerry, never got too close to the concept" What a line. He's so detached that he treats Jerry like he's not even a real thing, just a scientific theory like gravity or dark matter. Really shows how bad he is, our Rick may have treated Jerry like shit but he at least saw Jerry as a living, breathing person.
What's worse is that Rick prime is from that same cronenberged earth where feral Jerry is from too. He left Beth when she was growing up and she eventually found Jerry and married him and had a family with him. But Rick prime never even knew, he never came back...

And considering Rick said they only had 2-3 more after the Cronenberg and they changed one more in Morty's mindblowers, by this episode they ran out of dimensions because of the Parmesan thing

Honestly, I love the fact that "our" Smith family is just a hodge podge of different versions of themselves. It depicts the concept of a found family really well, since even though they aren't from the same timelines as each other it doesn't bother them. Does kinda piss me off that Rick Prime killed Post-Apocalypse Jerry though, wish he got to stick around more.

To be fair Evil Rick represents everything Evil Morty despises. Evil Rick's mentality of having to be the smartest in the universe even if that means no attachments is exactly the reason Evil Morty left .... the multiverse.
I took it as, also, being that the reason he escaped was to be able to live and travel somewhere that wasn't a construction to keep Rick at bay. Anywhere he travelled inside the curve he would never be free of Rick since that was the reason those realities were bound together.
I feel like "evil" Morty would be the only one that could truly stand up to Rick prime. After all he is the smartest man in the universe. Or I guess outside of it.
The moment I saw Jerry glowing after the portal reset mishap, I had such a huge grin. That Jerry theory was going on for 6 years, and we got the answer to it. lol.

Well, technically Evil Morty inadvertently nerfed him because he jacked up the portal fluid system, so he's trapped in his Universe until he invents a new Portal Gun.
They said Season 6 would have a lot more continuity which definitely appears true based on the first episode. The overarching story episodes are always the best!
This might be old news to the Blind Wave crew, but I was rewatching the Season 5 episodes on Bluray and in one of the Extras the animators are watching a Blind Wave Rick and Morty reaction. Probably from season 4. Surprised the heck out of me!
At this point, we have a whole family of Rickest Smiths Jacket Rick who holds absolutely no attachments or empathy Wild Jerry who lost everything and was content being totally alone to the point of abandoning his son Space Beth who ran away from all her problems and responsibilities in pursuit of freedom and adventure Evil Morty who broke the universe and committed countless atrocities to escape his problems And a Summer who's completely fine murdering and doing anything Rick wants as long as she gets new toys and approval from Rick

Jerry tagged along with Rick and Morty, but Rick didn't want him there, so he placed him in the Jerry daycare. At the end of the episode, they went back for him but lost their ticket so they just grabbed whoever.
I’m literally horrified by Mr. Frundle. Not just cause whatever his tooth touches becomes him, but the fact that the Mr Frundle bump he placed on Jerry bit him in the face and his entire face became Mr Frundle. So i’m horrified of what happend to Jerry after he got bit

Can't lie, I was really nervous how s6 was gunna be, but ep1 was such a solid start, and with the reintroduction of the real Rick (and maybe hopefully Evil Morty, him having his own functional portal gun has got to be an important point later in the series) and what it means going forward, I am really excited. Also, the answer to the question that I thought we'd never get an answer too, regarding Jerryborree. I laughed so hard when those 3 were flashing, was like OMG WE GOT AN ANSWER, that wasn't there fucking Jerry. That was /chefkiss. Episode could have ended there and I would have been fine lol.

I think it’s unlikely we see evil morty again. He’s out, no reason for him to be involved again. He’s got a specifically different color portal and is unlikely to be in the same universes as ours.
Rick Prime is probably the one who started the entire events of all preceeding Ricks from other universes. Rick Prime was the first to discover portal technology (of all Ricks) and then wanted to tell each version of himself of this invention so they can all be the most powerful and intellegent being in their respective universes. Again, Rick Prime truly does not care about anyone and wants all other Ricks to be like that as well thus killing their family if they didn't accept the portal technology initially. Remember when Rick C-137 says that the Citadel Ricks are less versions Ricks because they stopped their duty as a Rick, and that duty was finding and killing the Rick Prime who killed their respective families. Rick C-137 was the only one who really pulled through and reached this far into chasing Rick Prime.
Rick Prime seems like the type of guy who would break the only existing reality *into multiple/infinite realities* to give him a multiverse to f around in.
Since their bodies age, they aren't in a timeloop. He put everyone's memory/awareness in a loop so they would *act * as if they were all carrying out that original day.
I feel like this episode established a lot, like even more than a normal episode! We learned that Rick made a disembodied voice of his dead wife to haunt him to motivate him to track down his family's killer, we learned that Morty's original mom and sister died from being frozen (followed by his dad dying later), Morty's original Rick is the one who murdered C-137 Rick's family, Jerry was not from the same universe and went back to Season 2-verse before being picked up by the family that actually cares about him, and now the whole family is in a whole new universe because they lost it to Mr. Frundles, so everyone has a dead body in the backyard. If I missed anything let me know, but damn they set up a whole lot in just one episode and hardly any of it felt sloppy!
yeah tho considering what we know, the rick that killed our rick's familly (AKA rick prime) is actually rick C-137, and our rick's universe number isnt known yet (not that it matters anyways, now that the finate curve is destroyed)

the writers called the rick who killed our rick's family "Prime Rick" to tell him and our rick apart, since he's the actual grandfather of our "Prime Morty". our rick is just Rick, i guess.
Since our Morty is the Mortiest Morty - then that means his Rick is the Rickest Rick. Which makes sense that the Rick we know said "he's the real deal."

They are called Cronenberg's because they look like something out of Director David Cronenberg's films. He directed Scanners, Videodrome, The Fly, Naked Lunch, Eastern Promises and A History of Violence and is know for his body horror.
I just realize that they abandoned the kronenberg universe (morty's original universe) on episode 1X6 and the episode that universe's story (probably) end is 6X1
I think the reality being set on a loop by Rick was also a nod to Wandavision, with the first scene being a nod to Endgame, and lowkey the badass version of Jerry entrance was a nod to Caps intro in Infinity War
I like how this episode somehow made them accountable for leaving realities whenever it's convenient while still making us laugh and do it again in the end
16:20 I don’t remember what episode it was, but there’s a scene where Morty showed Summer his original universe, and a couple of ricks from the citadel showed up and froze Morty’s original Summer, Beth and Jerry. I guess Summer and Beth didn’t survive it
The horror that is Mr. Frundles is that you go to open a door and the door knob bites you. Maybe your laying in bed and the mattress bites you. You could be typing an essay and the computer bites you. You'll probably sit on a toilet and it bites you.
Glad to check your guys take on this show as it’s the only one left of my animated shows that I get so excited for. This first episode was perfect for me with all the payoffs. One gripe is C137 Rick not thinking of resetting portal travelers to ambush Rick Prime prior to all this. Seems like something the smartest guy should’ve thought of. Bummed to see Apocalypse Jerry go out but what a badass at the end.
No matter how smart you are you can easily miss obvious things. Sometimes you don't do something because its an obviously bad idea until you remember "This is guaranteed to fuck him over too but he won't know what happened like i do". Like C K said it also might have been something you only do if the curve breaks. It was also a straight up accident that force our Rick back to the place he never wanted to be.
Keep in mind the show writers don't like serialized drama despite them being so good at it. They do it every now and then to make the fans happy, but don't expect episode 2 to be like episode 1. We will probably go through multiple self-contained episodes before we get any more major plot developments.

It's subtle but the second Rick gets to his home dimension he goes straight to the whiskey. In the very next scene he had to go into the kitchen to get a beer bottle from the fridge implying he DRANK THE WHOLE BOTTLE OF WHISKEY offscreen
I think I know why Rick got so attached to Morty. We see Rick holding that baby morty. Rick saw Morty as a second chance. He was a loving husband and father once but when his wife and daughter were killed it broke him. Rick sees this young child this grandson he never got to have and finally has the chance to be a father again. So he kept coming back raising Morty in secret. In other words Rick saw Morty as his second chance. He wanted to be a father. He wanted to be different from the other Rick's but he never got the chance to.
Really surprised you guys kind of glossed over one of the most emotional / moving / sad quotes in the whole damn series so far... RICK: "... I live with a version of Beth now." AI DIANE: "Sounds like a version of nice."
Glad they finally said the thing I've been yelling at the screen the whole show. It doesn't matter if there's infinite versions of your loved ones out there. There's only one version we've actually spent time and made memories with.
Most underrated piece of all the continuity here is that that Summer and Morty got Original Jerry's family killed. The freeze they were referring to happened in Episode 1 of Season 3 when Summer and Morty were trying to save Rick from prison.
Yes Killer Rick is the real thing now, he always will be, "Evil" Morty has left and now we are dealing with a version of Rick who doesn't care about anyone and has no emotion for anything
It IS wild that they just left Morty's original family in the first place. As you see in this episode it is possible to find universes where you can change out the whole family but they just left them. In a world where everybody else turned into monsters. That's cold.
Just finding out the Rick we’ve been following has in fact a different grandson OTHER than the one we’ve been watching is kinda sad. And our Mortys Rick is the one who took out his current ricks family. (Not surprising tho if you think about that multiversal spiral curve - as each universe was originally connected together via the portal tech, (going into my theory now) A/alpha universe ricks discovered multiverse travel over time, and portaled to neighboring universes…. Then, offset (slightly behind/newer) universes, or B/Beta universes had ricks just getting to developing space travel, and as Aplha ricks traveLed there, they mostly could’ve been nicer to each other, but could’ve also had encounters like our ricks - where families were killed, and those b ricks THEN made dimension travel as a result, turned to alcoholism, then towards finding universe with adult Beth’s, (adding Beth universe’s, jerry universes, and Morty/summer to the finite curve). And so far, the curve could’ve gone past the entire alphabet, but I’d assume they’ve gone to E (5 cycles), as C-137 shared the middle of the curve in evil mortys base.
So given that our Rick's family was killed off when Beth was young, he never had an original Morty, so then who was the baby Morty that was pulled from his memory in the first episode we met Evil Morty in?

We've seen him in our Rick's memories when he was captured by Eye Patch Robot Rick and Evil Morty, and we also saw a picture of Baby Morty with Birdperson when Morty ended up in his world when he and Rick entered the car's engine. Who is this baby Morty and why is he important to our Rick?
honestly i believe at one point before settling down with prime rick's family, he may have seen the birth and life of a baby morty and he left to hunt down that rick that took away the chances of having a grandchild and normal family life with his wife, plus seeing beth grow and having summer and morty
Im a little late to the party but rewatching this made me realize. Since kronenberg world is the "Main Morty" original world and Rick Prime or whatever the name was is his original rick. When Rick reset the portal fluid he reset everyone who uses it. The reason why Rick Prime is in the kronenberg world is bcs he got returned to his original reality. Would that be correct?

Since this is the second time that Mike Mendel memorial was used, and seemed to be the answer to the question at the end, I guess Mike is the one who came up with the idea for Evil Rick, or just wanted the show to focus on that plot point more, or at least is in some way responsible for the show's continued continuity focus Would line up with that reveal of Rick's backstory being at the beginning of S3, and Mike passing shortly before S4 began airing
Jerry's hatred for Morty is due to his return to the Cronenburg (spelling?) reality, ultimately killed Beth and Summer. Jerry smashed the portal gun and the alternate Rick's froze them while Morty and Summer were allowed to leave. (S3. E1).
And with the death of Cronenburged World Jerry, we finally wrap up a plot point that began in the middle of season one. All of Morty's original family is now officially dead.
Did you guys also see all the Vindicators 2 episodes on Adult Swims TH-cam. They’re pretty funny, you meet Lady Katana and the other diverse members that died and it explains the backstory on how they died it’s really good. The Nub Nub episode is the funniest.
I really like that the rick from the original reality that we start the series in happens to be the most evil of all the ricks. Also, I like the cool detail that this is the first (and now to be the only time) we see the rick from the original shows reality meeting with one of the characters from said same reality, that we were introduced to through the show, and Rick kills him within 1 minute. Dark stuff.
I know live reactions dont usually get a replacement show but solar oppoistes is needed. Either on a poll of what to watch at some point because its amazing or the boys just choose to watch it because its amazing. Also this episode is by far one of my favourits for a good few seasons, hope this season sticks to being soo good. Like solor opposites has.

Summer reminds Rick of Diane because she must have characteristics of who Diane was to Rick - remember even though the Diane in this episode was an AI that he created to haunt him, that AI helped him deduce that the original Rick might have been transported back. So basically we can assume that Diane thinks Rick was awesome, she always defended him and she was quick on the draw and can deduce intent pretty quickly, she probably was able cut through the bullshit and we all know how Rick can bullshit she must have been sort of like how Summer was with her two moms and showed an awesome grasp of self-awareness while calling out her mom's passive-aggressiveness but Summer just loves adventure and she follows her own conviction and does what she wants regardless. Explains why Rick trusts her to get shit done over everyone in the family.
I just had an epiphany. If everyone returned to their universe of origin. Including Prime Rick that might have been elsewhere. That also means Evil Morty was also thrown back. He tried so hard to escape. And now he’s back, lmao.

What's really interesting to me, after just watching it back, is that at the end, Prime Rick killing Jerry is actually him killing the Jerry of his original reality. So that isn't just a Jerry, that's his Jerry, or at least the Jerry of his original reality.

This might be old news to the Blind Wave crew, but I was rewatching the Season 5 episodes on Bluray and in one of the Extras the animators are watching a Blind Wave Rick and Morty reaction. Probably from season 4. Surprised the heck out of me!

And a Summer who's completely fine murdering and doing anything Rick wants as long as she gets new toys

It was the one with the talking cloud. Jerry tagged along with Rick and Morty, but Rick didn't want him there, so he placed him in the Jerry daycare. At the end of the episode, they went back for him but lost their ticket so they just grabbed whoever.

On the level of writing though, feels like a bit forced and lazy reference to the Solaris story.
I’m literally horrified by Mr. Frundle. Not just cause whatever his tooth touches becomes him, but the fact that the Mr Frundle bump he placed on Jerry bit him in the face and his entire face became Mr Frundle. So i’m horrified of what happend to Jerry after he got bit

Can't lie, I was really nervous how s6 was gunna be, but ep1 was such a solid start, and with the reintroduction of the real Rick (and maybe hopefully Evil Morty, him having his own functional portal gun has got to be an important point later in the series) and what it means going forward, I am really excited.
Also, the answer to the question that I thought we'd never get an answer too, regarding Jerryborree. I laughed so hard when those 3 were flashing, was like OMG WE GOT AN ANSWER, that wasn't there fucking Jerry. That was /chefkiss. Episode could have ended there and I would have been fine lol.
Honestly I like the idea that Evil Morty not being evil anymore. It like the show said he not really evil. He got what he wanted by fucking off.

With the bad Rick designated as Rick Prime (the -original???-), I hope we'll get one for Evil Morty, if only to know more of his backstory outside the monolog.
I think it’s unlikely we see evil morty again. He’s out, no reason for him to be involved again. He’s got a specifically different color portal and is unlikely to be in the same universes as ours.
Rick Prime is probably the one who started the entire events of all preceeding Ricks from other universes. Rick Prime was the first to discover portal technology (of all Ricks) and then wanted to tell each version of himself of this invention so they can all be the most powerful and intellegent being in their respective universes. Again, Rick Prime truly does not care about anyone and wants all other Ricks to be like that as well thus killing their family if they didn't accept the portal technology initially. Remember when Rick C-137 says that the Citadel Ricks are less versions Ricks because they stopped their duty as a Rick, and that duty was finding and killing the Rick Prime who killed their respective families. Rick C-137 was the only one who really pulled through and reached this far into chasing Rick Prime.
Rick Prime seems like the type of guy who would break the only existing reality *into multiple/infinite realities* to give him a multiverse to f around in.
Since their bodies age, they aren't in a timeloop.
He put everyone's memory/awareness in a loop so they would *act * as if they were all carrying out that original day.
I can’t believe Killer Rick is our? Morty’s real grandpa… but to think we left evil morty to go back to the original evil Rick…. My god.
I feel like this episode established a lot, like even more than a normal episode! We learned that Rick made a disembodied voice of his dead wife to haunt him to motivate him to track down his family's killer, we learned that Morty's original mom and sister died from being frozen (followed by his dad dying later), Morty's original Rick is the one who murdered C-137 Rick's family, Jerry was not from the same universe and went back to Season 2-verse before being picked up by the family that actually cares about him, and now the whole family is in a whole new universe because they lost it to Mr. Frundles, so everyone has a dead body in the backyard.
If I missed anything let me know, but damn they set up a whole lot in just one episode and hardly any of it felt sloppy!
yeah tho considering what we know, the rick that killed our rick's familly (AKA rick prime) is actually rick C-137, and our rick's universe number isnt known yet (not that it matters anyways, now that the finate curve is destroyed)

They are called Cronenberg's because they look like something out of Director David Cronenberg's films. He directed Scanners, Videodrome, The Fly, Naked Lunch, Eastern Promises and A History of Violence and is know for his body horror.
The "Real Deal" Rick baiting Rick while in his hidden lair had a real 'Stanley Parable' vibe; I liked that.

I just realize that they abandoned the kronenberg universe (morty's original universe) on episode 1X6 and the episode that universe's story (probably) end is 6X1
I think the reality being set on a loop by Rick was also a nod to Wandavision, with the first scene being a nod to Endgame, and lowkey the badass version of Jerry entrance was a nod to Caps intro in Infinity War

The horror that is Mr. Frundles is that you go to open a door and the door knob bites you. Maybe your laying in bed and the mattress bites you. You could be typing an essay and the computer bites you. You'll probably sit on a toilet and it bites you.

Glad to check your guys take on this show as it’s the only one left of my animated shows that I get so excited for. This first episode was perfect for me with all the payoffs. One gripe is C137 Rick not thinking of resetting portal travelers to ambush Rick Prime prior to all this. Seems like something the smartest guy should’ve thought of. Bummed to see Apocalypse Jerry go out but what a badass at the end.
No matter how smart you are you can easily miss obvious things. Sometimes you don't do something because its an obviously bad idea until you remember "This is guaranteed to fuck him over too but he won't know what happened like i do".
Like C K said it also might have been something you only do if the curve breaks. It was also a straight up accident that force our Rick back to the place he never wanted to be.
Keep in mind the show writers don't like serialized drama despite them being so good at it. They do it every now and then to make the fans happy, but don't expect episode 2 to be like episode 1. We will probably go through multiple self-contained episodes before we get any more major plot developments.

It's subtle but the second Rick gets to his home dimension he goes straight to the whiskey. In the very next scene he had to go into the kitchen to get a beer bottle from the fridge implying he DRANK THE WHOLE BOTTLE OF WHISKEY offscreen

I think I know why Rick got so attached to Morty. We see Rick holding that baby morty. Rick saw Morty as a second chance. He was a loving husband and father once but when his wife and daughter were killed it broke him. Rick sees this young child this grandson he never got to have and finally has the chance to be a father again. So he kept coming back raising Morty in secret. In other words Rick saw Morty as his second chance. He wanted to be a father. He wanted to be different from the other Rick's but he never got the chance to.
Really surprised you guys kind of glossed over one of the most emotional / moving / sad quotes in the whole damn series so far...
RICK: "... I live with a version of Beth now."

Glad they finally said the thing I've been yelling at the screen the whole show. It doesn't matter if there's infinite versions of your loved ones out there. There's only one version we've actually spent time and made memories with.
Most underrated piece of all the continuity here is that that Summer and Morty got Original Jerry's family killed. The freeze they were referring to happened in Episode 1 of Season 3 when Summer and Morty were trying to save Rick from prison.

It IS wild that they just left Morty's original family in the first place. As you see in this episode it is possible to find universes where you can change out the whole family but they just left them. In a world where everybody else turned into monsters. That's cold.

Just finding out the Rick we’ve been following has in fact a different grandson OTHER than the one we’ve been watching is kinda sad. And our Mortys Rick is the one who took out his current ricks family. (Not surprising tho if you think about that multiversal spiral curve - as each universe was originally connected together via the portal tech, (going into my theory now) A/alpha universe ricks discovered multiverse travel over time, and portaled to neighboring universes…. Then, offset (slightly behind/newer) universes, or B/Beta universes had ricks just getting to developing space travel, and as Aplha ricks traveLed there, they mostly could’ve been nicer to each other, but could’ve also had encounters like our ricks - where families were killed, and those b ricks THEN made dimension travel as a result, turned to alcoholism, then towards finding universe with adult Beth’s, (adding Beth universe’s, jerry universes, and Morty/summer to the finite curve). And so far, the curve could’ve gone past the entire alphabet, but I’d assume they’ve gone to E (5 cycles), as C-137 shared the middle of the curve in evil mortys base.

We've seen him in our Rick's memories when he was captured by Eye Patch Robot Rick and Evil Morty, and we also saw a picture of Baby Morty with Birdperson when Morty ended up in his world when he and Rick entered the car's engine. Who is this baby Morty and why is he important to our Rick?
honestly i believe at one point before settling down with prime rick's family, he may have seen the birth and life of a baby morty and he left to hunt down that rick that took away the chances of having a grandchild and normal family life with his wife, plus seeing beth grow and having summer and morty
Im a little late to the party but rewatching this made me realize. Since kronenberg world is the "Main Morty" original world and Rick Prime or whatever the name was is his original rick. When Rick reset the portal fluid he reset everyone who uses it. The reason why Rick Prime is in the kronenberg world is bcs he got returned to his original reality. Would that be correct?

Since this is the second time that Mike Mendel memorial was used, and seemed to be the answer to the question at the end, I guess Mike is the one who came up with the idea for Evil Rick, or just wanted the show to focus on that plot point more, or at least is in some way responsible for the show's continued continuity focus
Would line up with that reveal of Rick's backstory being at the beginning of S3, and Mike passing shortly before S4 began airing

That was the only Jerry who basically said "I want *my* family back, not some other-universe's"
Jerry's hatred for Morty is due to his return to the Cronenburg (spelling?) reality, ultimately killed Beth and Summer. Jerry smashed the portal gun and the alternate Rick's froze them while Morty and Summer were allowed to leave. (S3. E1).
And with the death of Cronenburged World Jerry, we finally wrap up a plot point that began in the middle of season one. All of Morty's original family is now officially dead.

Did you guys also see all the Vindicators 2 episodes on Adult Swims TH-cam. They’re pretty funny, you meet Lady Katana and the other diverse members that died and it explains the backstory on how they died it’s really good. The Nub Nub episode is the funniest.

I really like that the rick from the original reality that we start the series in happens to be the most evil of all the ricks.
Also, I like the cool detail that this is the first (and now to be the only time) we see the rick from the original shows reality meeting with one of the characters from said same reality, that we were introduced to through the show, and Rick kills him within 1 minute. Dark stuff.

Summer reminds Rick of Diane because she must have characteristics of who Diane was to Rick - remember even though the Diane in this episode was an AI that he created to haunt him, that AI helped him deduce that the original Rick might have been transported back. So basically we can assume that Diane thinks Rick was awesome, she always defended him and she was quick on the draw and can deduce intent pretty quickly, she probably was able cut through the bullshit and we all know how Rick can bullshit she must have been sort of like how Summer was with her two moms and showed an awesome grasp of self-awareness while calling out her mom's passive-aggressiveness but Summer just loves adventure and she follows her own conviction and does what she wants regardless. Explains why Rick trusts her to get shit done over everyone in the family.
One of the better season openers, for sure.
I just had an epiphany. If everyone returned to their universe of origin. Including Prime Rick that might have been elsewhere. That also means Evil Morty was also thrown back. He tried so hard to escape. And now he’s back, lmao.

What's really interesting to me, after just watching it back, is that at the end, Prime Rick killing Jerry is actually him killing the Jerry of his original reality. So that isn't just a Jerry, that's his Jerry, or at least the Jerry of his original reality.
