Here's a bit about the development of the album:
So I’ve never really considered myself a “real” piano player. When I wrote these tracks, I wasn’t able to actually play them the way I wanted to.
And so began this big experiment to help me get out of my head, away from (production) screens, and into my body - to close the gap in expression between my hands and my heart.
Torso feels like it’s woven a new thread of emotional awareness not just into my music, but into my life.
I’m a big believer in music’s power being centred in what its channelling, rather than how its played. I wanted to challenge myself to get the most honesty out of the fewest of notes - a real contrast to layers of production and complex arrangements.
My journey with the piano has mirrored my own journey through psychotherapy, understanding where my body stores its pain, its trauma, its joy.
These pieces have followed me around the globe, to different homes... they were with me when the world stood still a few years ago, and they helped me welcome a child into my life.
And now they’re yours too.
