I just chalk it up to Merlin. With her infinity power, she just cast a spell on him that repairs his clothes whenever they get destroyed...she'd only need to cast it once and it'd go on forever. Because you know...Merlin.

He actually does have spare sets lying around just in case.. xD However in some cases he wears something very wide for when he is his nightform that changes when he turns into his dayform and becomes neat fitting, like during the vampire Arc, or his Golden armor that has shifting layers.
This is one of the few anime where I can stand watching the English dub, mainly due to Escanor's voice. It is soothing, confident, and bad ass all at once.

I don't think I would classify TALL BRIGHT and small bright as separate individuals. They might act differently, but people do that all the time, like someone whose sick being more irritable and lazy, when they're otherwise kind and energetic. Or someone whose drunk being silly and open when they're otherwise serious and closed off. I think its the same deal with Escanor. In the day time, he doesn't appreciate his friends any less, or stop loving Merlin. He does all that, but just drunk on pride, so he treats those feelings differently than he would at night time. In the day, he simply refuses to do anything that might hurt his pride, so therefore he doesn't admit any of his appreciation, because that would mean saying he's not perfect. At nighttime when he's not pride-drunk, he doesn't have anything to protect, and feels remorse for losing control of his pride during the day. Same person, just at different times.
So Tall Bright is drunk on the Sun

Robin Falkner-Wedge He would have more depth. As in the manga there was a flashback that introduced Escanor which gave a lot more info about his character. However the anime skipped that flashback

I'm sort of surprised that no one has thought of this - but when I first learned of Escanor, I immediately thought of Parashurama, "Rama with an Axe", who was the sixth avatar of Vishnu in Hindu mythology. Much like Escanor, Parashurama:
- is represented with a single-handed axe, which was given to him by a god;
- is a Brahmin priest (i.e., residing in the apex of the highest clans) with warrior tendencies - in fact, he is driven to kill those of the Ksatriya warrior caste, who were becoming more tyrannical and abusive;
- is a self-contained contradiction: he is a priest who must uphold non-violence and detachment, but at the same time, he has to maintain the power and status fitting priests (i.e., the highest order). He even beheads his mother at the request of his father, as a punishment for her past transgressions.
Anyway, I would not be surprised at all if Nakaba Suzuki were at least acquainted with the idea of Parashurama as a priest with a killer instinct, all in the name of preserving his status at the apex of society - and applied those bits to Escanor. However, I think you are confusing arrogant pride (a result of inflated confidence) with narcissistic pride (a coping mechanism for insecurities). The difference being that narcissists require and constantly seek out validation from others in order to maintain their self-image, while arrogant individuals are simply extremely confident (and usually overconfident) in their abilities.
Escanor's strong self-image is demonstrated both in this fight as 'Tall Bright' and in how he copes with Gowther's mind attack in the tournament(ish) arc as 'Small Bright'. Gowther shows him every hellish part of his past, and then shows him his deepest fear imaginable -- Merlin utterly rejecting him and calling him a monster. And the thing is, he accepts that, and recontextualizes it into something positive:

Yeah, and even helping Ban an Co. against the Commandments at night can be viewed as extremely overconfidence in his ability to survive until day.
You missed something, though; confirmation. We don’t know that for certain. We don’t know if small Escanor feels pride in validation. From his demeanor he is extremely humble and meek, which doesn’t indicate that he would go out of his way to prove that he’s strong enough to withstand Gowther or the demons that showed up to his tavern. The type of character you’re describing is like a Goku.
Small Escanor just comes across as genuine. So this theory seems highly unlikely.

After going through this video all I can say is just wow.
I had this series shown to me by a very close friend and brother in arms and I finally understand why in passing conversations he kept mentioning this series to me kept telling me about the very Escanor.
And right here it made more sense that through his struggles and sheer devastation he stood above

Victor Ricardo omg fam all might is multi building level whereas escanor is definitely at least mountain level shown by him withstanding a hit from galand that destroyed even mountains so he is definitely above mountain level. MHA is just generally a lot smaller so building level is a lot in MHA but nothing in SDS. Overall, escanor > all might

Eh i dont think escanors emotions are really closed off. He does romantically love merlin and he genuinely cares for his comrades and the citizens of the kingdom as a holy knight. I also wouldnt really consider him to have a split personality. Tall bright and small bright are still the same person, they have the same feelings and thoughts its just that tall bright has an extra layer of "pride" draped on top of his normal persona. Its more like a magically induced roid rage more so than an entirely new person.
I think is more like, when he is at his peak, as far as he knows, he's the most powerful entity in the world, why would he take stock in the thoughts and actions of lesser beings? That's why you can have opinions of him, but ANY decision that matters, is his and his alone. A dog can bark all it wants, but it's owner is the one to decide when it's fed and when it's time to walk.
escanor kinda does have a split personality though, or at least some kind of true duality to his being as he said im not good in a fight to galand and did not turn to stone as night escanor but then day escanor was much better in a fight than galand.

Yea, except for Merlin. Escanor always loves her, but he never becomes so prideful that he doesn't look at her on at least equal footing. He never puts himself higher than her, and in fact he only believes he even deserves her when he is in Tall Bright mode...as Smol Bright he "knows" he doesn't deserve her and as Tall he "knows" he's the only one that ever could deserve her. But never sees himself as superior to her.

Hey, Nux Taku! I really enjoyed this video about Escanor; Truly, a character worthy to be a fan favor of most. However, what I truly enjoyed about your videos are your psychological insights. You could say my favorite videos by you are the "Philosophy of..." And the "In-depth analysis" videos you make. They are really insightful and I thought it would be really cool if you could do the same for other preferably older popular or underrated animes. For example, I would be fascinated by a "Philosophy of" or "In-depth analysis" video for Psycho-Pass comparing Mikashima and Kogami or even something pertaining to Berserk. Based upon past videos, if you were to take my measly comment into consideration I know it would be amazing as every other. Keep up the excellent work !
