Sonor Drums could be nominated for best supporting actor. Whoever thought of filming this awesome drum solo in the Sonor Factory should have been given a huge bonus.
Love how Steve caresses everything. Never forced. Each note lovingly enticed from the instrument. It’s almost like the instrument is alive and Steve is coaxing a willing response from it. Look at the way the ride shimmies along it’s edge as the swell is built. Sonor is lucky to have him.
There are people who play drums. And then there are drummers that play music. There are a lot of the former, and not enough of the latter. Steve is a master of making music on the drums. He's one of my heros.
Steve Smith is one awesome drummer, as well as one humble person! And meeting him really changed my view on great drummer/musicians. I'll never look at playing drums the same again! Successful and humble now days is un heard of...

Steve always makes me want to instantly get back in the shed and practice more, especially to work on the never ending improvement of rudiments. And that kit might be the most beautiful sounding drums I've ever heard. Just sublime.

This video made up my mind on the Sonor Vintage series drums. Fantastic sounding drums played by one of my favourite players. Sonor and beech , like peanut butter and jelly.
Such a pleasure to hear this man work the drums. Always manages to pull you along for the ride, incorporating some amazing technique and underpinning it all with a some nice earthy grooves.
I still have my 4 piece Sonor's from 1965, I guess that makes them a vintage kit by reason of the age. No denying Steve Smith is a smokin drummer. Very enjoyable to hear.

Nah, they sill don't come close to the old slingerland, rogers, etc kits :( but they're fine for modern stuff... even though I'd much rather go with ludwig
@@MikeHoltackers Actually, they do. Quite close to the original Sonor Teardrops. Certainly in the same league as the 60s era drums you're comparing them to, if not superior.
Those are some great sounding drums! Totally vintage vibe in this recording. If I could get a clearer tuning out of my ‘64 Rogers kit (which I love), it would sound like this. I once heard Emmanuelle Caplette play a Sonor Vintage Series Kit, and it was tuned in a more modern way (lower pitches, possibly two-ply heads). I swear, it was the best live drum sound I’ve ever heard. If I had money, I’d buy a bank of every size and model in the series.
Dang....that was just Brilliant. His soloing style just pulls you in. I believe the player elevates the drums....not other way around....but when the instrument can answer the players volley....its fireworks.
I am more curious about , the WHY they dislike..most of those nega trolls , have no ability to explain their disliking because they have the inability to understand what is going on - the true mastership v.s their own failings towards the instrument.

These Vintage series have the best tuning range . I just got my 22" 13" 16" and they kick ass no matter how low or how high to tune them .

I am amazed at how close these sound to the original teardrops from the 60s, particularly the 6-ply teardrops with rounded edges.
