Let me summarize this video. Subaru knows its customer base VERY well.

Omg .. you sound exactly like me lol like exactly.
Hopefully upgrading sound is easy and can buy a nice system without having to change much.
Im also no longer a tuner. Used to order engines from Japan and take cars apart.
Suspension is very tight like you said I agree.

I like your perspective and that little logo on the PT shirt. 😊 I’ve had my Premium VB since August. Put 4K miles on it and I also try not to overthink it. The only two cars I cross shopped were the GTI and Si. I couldn’t handle the GTIs lack of buttons/gloss black nightmare and my dealer wouldn’t budge on the $35k “market price” for their Civic. Very happy with my car and the drive. As my first sports car, I needed to get use to hearing the sounds and knowing what driving it hard means. 2,000 RPM in a WRX is louder than a Honda Passport. Didn’t realize how slow I was driving because I was going off of sound. Lol

Agree on a lot of points you made. I'm trading in my 2002 for a new 2023, so I've driven the 2002 for 21.5 years and about 278,000 miles, and only test-driven the 2023 for about 10 miles. But in that short bit, I predict that I'll think the 2002 was better in it's time. It was lighter and more responsive and like you said, more raw. The new one feels heavy, while the 2002 also has a good grip but not in such a heavy way. It also seems like the turbo was more of a focal point in 2002 than it is now, and when it would really begin to pull around 3000 RPM the car would accelerate like nothing else I've driven. The 2023 seems more constant and won't snap head back in the seat the same way. But after 21 years, it's really not a fair comparison and the new one has an extra gear lots of technology, more safety, more space, etc.
I'm 49 and after such a good experience with the 2002, I still wanted to have something I enjoyed so the 2023 is part practical and part toy. I could do without the giant screen on the center of the dash, and would be very happy with knobs, dials, and non-digital stuff, but that's probably more of my personality quirk. When I see that stuff, I just get worried it won't last. Time will tell if I keep this one as long, but I wanted to continue the traditions, same color too.

I'm in your age range and I feel you. I ALWAYS wanted a WRX STi back in the '00s and could not afford one at the time. I now got a MY23 Forester for the family which I really like and enjoy. However, as soon as I can, I will trade it for this new WRX Premium in this color and a manual of course. Great video/comments.

I like your perspective. Got my first WRX a week ago, seeking practicality (without abandoning fun) after a BRZ. Sensible, unremarkable cars before that.
First impressions: my three kids enjoy each having a door. And I’m adjusting. But down here in Oz the top spec manual RS goes for low $50s, so it’s tempting to get distracted by comparisons to cars I’d simply never want to own.

I really enjoy mine also my complaints are same as yours theres a lane on a part of the freeway i avoid at all cost because of that rebound in the suspension never felt anything like it in a car before almost a floating or rear skipping across the ground

As a 42yo myself, you should get an accessport and pay for a stage1 tune from a reputable tuner. It WILL be night and day and will run better everywhere.

had a grey Mazdaspeed 6 as one of my first non-parent borrowed cars... loved it and hated it. I always wanted something more nimble and it was heavy/big...but learned to love it because it had a pretty decent AWD system. After that, had an RX8 R3, Challenger SRT8, C63, Fiat Abarth... looking for something fun. The WRX feels analog enough for me. I do hesitate a bit when I hear positive reviews, because it's always "great" and "Fun for the price"...but they are never: "SUBARU DID SUCH AN AMAZING JOB, THIS THING IS A BLAST" like I read positive Elantra N or Kona N reviews.

I own one and I will say that it's an amazing car. The chassis is more solid than the VA, the engine more capable than the EJ's, I enjoy the gearing so much as I feel like I'm on a rally stage ripping through the gears. Subaru knocked it out of the park providing a reliable platform that enthusiasts can do everything in, she's my daily but also will go to autox. It's not best in class for any of what it does, it's a jack of all trades.

I got a 2023 base model for 29,000. I don't plan on any mods and I like the car as it's a year-round driver in the Pacific northwest. I gott spoiled with my 08 Porsche Boxster S. That car was simply amazing in every way. Subaru is fun up to about a 100 mph. and then it just gets too bumpy and squirrely. The Porsche felt solid and in control even at 150 mph. But a sub $30k car compared to a $70k car. Porsche. There is no substitute.

Absolutely agree, that even though I own one, the VB WRX just isn't a 40K car. The GT is just bat **** insane pricing. For that price you don't even get the STI diffs, brakes, transmission etc. Now, I would like the TR, but I still think that is overpriced as again... no diffs or trans. I also don't like the eyesight on the TR. If that breaks .... that will be an insane cost most likely. (I absolutely do like the adaptive cruise control on eye sight models though.). MOD wise, I would like the STI brakes, and eventually if money allows, STI trans/diffs etc. Obviously wheels/suspension as well. I will say though, the WRX is an APPLIANCE now.

Have you noticed the car taken longer than it should to warm up? It was 35 the other day, and the engine even after 20 minutes had not got to full temp on mine, I was pretty surprised.

    • @rereichel
      @rereichel 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

My 23 warms up quickly. Heat to the cabin comes quickly. I'd say 5 to 7 minutes and it's up to temperature.

The TR fixed all the issues, but at $42k, it’s a bit steep.

People overthink the WRX, or expect too much, given its reputation and place in automotive culture. For $30k you get AWD, 5-sec 0-60s, cornering at 0.95, brakes (for the first few stops) like nothing else in its class. Detractors compare the car to vehicles that are $10k more easily. Remember Subaru does not make luxury cars like Acura/Honda or Toyota/Lexus. You can have ANY model car in the Subaru line-up for LESS than $35k to start, and no other manufacturer with Subaru reliability (Consumer Reports perennial top 5) can say that. If you dont mod it, the WRX is incredibly reliable.
I have a '23 Premium 6MT. I have modded it out, as the car is for fun, I only drive 10k a year to work. I don't launch it, it isn't a drag racing car. I've had ZERO issues in the first year/10k miles.
My only beef (and my dealer hates this as well) is they ship cars with summer performance tires. When my dealer gets deliveries in winter, the cars have NO TRACTION. Subaru needs to give buyers a choice, or ship to winter areas with summer all-season performance (or at least 3-season). I run Nokian Nordman studdeds in the winter, and the car is a tank.

great review. regarding the stock brakes... idk how to properly articulate the problem. they're not terrible, not great, but not good either. any speed above 100 you're going to need some significant distance to slow down.
also, the center display is extremely sensitive to liquids. I was cleaning the interior and accidentally sprayed a bit on the display and the entire thing blacked out for two days.

@@DEADSPIRITSDCI'm in the same boat of not wanting to void my warranty, although I don't feel that the car really needs the 400 in all honestly. There's enough power to very quickly have your license suspended from factory. I'll wait until everyone else has figured out what parts create the best power reliably and go from there after my warranties have expired in 2026.
