  • Learn how to capture the stars using the DJI Osmo Pocket 3. The first part of this video is about the settings to use to capture stars using the DJI Osmo Pocket 3, including a quick Lightroom edit. The second part, we learn how to capture 4k timelapses/motionlapses of the moving stars. We complete the video by comparing it to the DJI Pocket 2.

    With a one inch sensor it should be able to take amazing shots. Dji needs to update the pocket 3 with a mode similar to that used on the google pixel phones where they take multiple shots over 4 minutes and process them together. It creates a single image that is incredibly detailed. It’s a matter of software rather than hardware with this one for sure

    I'm considering buying the Pocket 3 but your results stoped me for a while (depending on future firmware updates). Taking time-lapses with shuttter speed greater than 1s is crucial for me. Even bigger sensor can't compensate for this limit of 1s and your video shows it perfectly. Good job! I really, really hope DJI will listen to our voice and add a range of shutter speed to at least 30s. It would be an amazing tool for low-light lovers. Besides that this camera is awesome.

      You can access longer shutter speed by AUTO exposure and select fix ISO and choose fix low iso eg 50-100,50-200,50-400. choose long interval 20s, 30s ,60s etc. then Pocket 3 will auto select longer shutter than 1s. I can even get exposure long as 60s.

      Could you post some results please? Do you have some examples of transition between day-night? Sounds very interesting and it could be a part solution. But still, we don't have full control over exposure (we have to trust AUTO IQ). Is it possible to capture in DNG with a longer shutter (and do some postprod eg LR Time Laps)? @@timelapsebylkunl72

      DJI caps the shutter speed based on the interval settings. If you have a 2s interval, the camera can't automatically set a shutter speed above 2s. If the interval is 30s, then the shutter speed can go up to 30s.

    This is one thing I was definitely planning on doing when I get my Osmo. Disappointing about the shutter issue. Everyone needs to bombard DJI customer service and complain about this seemingly pointless limit. It would be a very simple change in a firmware update. The ISO trick may help somewhat - did you try this? Also, since you took RAW frames, did you try correcting exposure with those? You could probably bring out much more detail. Another option would be exposure stacking if the menu or the Mimo app allows that.

I guess DJI was focus more on daytime photography with that OSMO Pocket 3. And, maybe they didn't actually mean to release the next generation of OSMO Pocket. It's just a different use case. It's just what I think the reason behind this decision might be. Bye.

    I actually find the Pocket 2 having better colours in low-light...I repeat - colours, not resolution!

    • @loicba

      We can see more starrs because the shutter speed are longer

    The Pocket 3 needs a firmware update to give us that 8 second exposure! The Pocket 2 captured more start. Go figure.

    I feel like they really failed the Pocket 3 when it comes to photos. Lowering the MP was a bad move.

    • @loicba
      @loicba  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes and no. If your primary use the Pocket 3 is to take pictures, yes. If it's to take videos, no. Less resolutions allows to get better image quality because each pixel on the sensor is bigger which allows to capture more information.

    Was very disappointed when I tried exactly this scenario. I'm getting better results from my gopro. I'm also hoping for a firmware fix.

      @@hereweare9011 exactly. And yet you can do a decent star lapse on one. It's why this oversight by DJI seems bizarre.

      You can access longer shutter speed by AUTO exposure and select fix ISO and choose fix low iso eg 50-100,50-200,50-400. choose long interval 20s, 30s ,60s etc. then Pocket 3 will auto select longer shutter than 1s. I can even get exposure longer as 60s.

    I really want DJI to do something about their long exposure shooting both on video and on photos. This is a 1 inch sensor we should be able to shoot with exposure longer than 1sec. I think this is a missed opportunity
