"Better" is subjective depends on what you want the vehicle for. The wrx has more usable power around town, much quicker spool and low end. The wrx also makes for a more cost effective platform depending on what power levels youre going for. If you bought a new wrx and put about 5k(maybe less)into it you would have an arguably better all around car then many options today. These cars have a decent power-weight ratio compared to near 4k +lbs v8s etc too. With stage2 bolt ons and minimum supporting mods for e85, you have a pretty fast practical road car that will pull car lengths ahead of most others, especially from a dig. BUT... fuel economy is awful for a 4cyl, even if you avoid the slightest bit of boost lol

I agree with you. I got an STi cuz it will be my only car and more metal instead of plastic parts, and aluminum instead of steel parts. and at 2013 the WRX has a complete garbage fragile 5-speed, where the STi has a bulletproof 6-speed. Bigger intercooler and rad helps with overall temps and slightly less chance of detention. and since I'm not going to mod it, the STi was the better choice for me.
These are the best reasons I've heard from a WRX owner. No BS just facts on why it suits YOU better. That being said, all (mostly) the reasons why you chose the WRX is why I didn't.. lol I'm not strictly looking at straight line performance. The diffs in the STi and its AWD make its pull out of corners HARD and I got plans on making mine a canyon/touge/track killer. You can't put down 5-600 hp unless you got a straight road.
Diego Tobar appreciate it and believe the same thing facts. This car is my daily and used for that. So preferences different. But for sure if it was to be main track car STI is hands down better. Thanks for comment :)
Love the content man !. 2018 wrx here ! Been in that subie game for years now great cars to own and work on yourself in the driveway lol. I drive 300+ miles a week and have for the last 12 years. these are great cars for daily driving ‘ going to the grocery, and hauling kids around and going decently fast 👍keep up the great work I’m hoping to get in one of those used corvette’s soon for a thrash around the hood car soon. I live in southern California and this is the best reasoning video I've seen so far. If I can't get a good deal on an STI I'm differently can get a good deal for a WRX
J Cooley appreciate the comment thanks for watching and good to see fellow southern Californians in comments :) thanks for watching and glad video helped
Good video! One thing I'd disagree with is the power aspect... Yes, the wrx starts off with a low number, but with the right bolt-ons and a dyno tune, it's a savage of a car. I wouldn't say it's super fast, and I've had faster cars, but I never feel like my wrx is not fast and it still surprises me with how hard it pulls above 4k (can only imagine on flex tune...). It is also relatively light and feels quicker than it is. Also, what I also like about the wrx vs. sti is the steering feel as it's light and nimble. It's electric but it's the best of its kind. Driven a few sti's before and found the steering just too hard. You get a tighter ratio in an sti, but with a few mods to the wrx (dampener lockout, sway bars, lowered, etc.) the steering becomes sharp and responsive! I am still blown away by it compared to the M3 that I had. I personally think it's a better pick over an sti in many ways, as long as your plan is to mod the crap out of it. Stock vs stock, it's only more practical, that's all. And another thing to mention is you also get a lot of down-low torque due to the new twin scroll turbo. This was the winning factor for me when I drove an sti and then jumped into a wrx as I was on the fence between the two until then.
TheShaddix exactly! Feel the same way too. That’s why I talked about everyday driving feel on WRX better cause power comes early and you feel it better with mods. The WRX and STI are very similar in power with bolt ons. So for most. Everyday situations. The WRX is the better buy. I agree and appreciate your message man :)
Back here visiting your videos trying to find some inspiration. I find myself stuck on what to do with the 20' WRX. I look at things that I like and then I start to question myself because I don't want to just repeat what I did with the 16' STi. Hope life is still treating you well man.
@@ChristianHudnell I have found a bit so far. Picked up a Perrin engine cover, fender covers, radiator shroud, strut brace in white and the Perrin intake in black. Also talking to a company about swapping out the pearl white shift knob I bought from them awhile back for one in piano black and they are going to laser engrave the U.S. Army seal on the top of it (shiftsolutions) and then pick up a candy red reverse lockout. I am also looking to get the hood (minus scoop), roof, and trunk wrapped in a larger winter camo pattern.
This solidifies what I'll be getting when I'm ready, was debating on the WRX or the STI, and the WRX be perfect for me and what I'll be doing. Great video, appreciate it dude!
This reminds me of when I had stacks on my gas-fueled Chevy Silverado 1509 back in the day. I always got shit: “it’s not a diesel. Why do you have stacks?” You know what? It’s MY vehicle and it’s what I like. Who cares if you get a WRX and put the sweet spoiler on it? Let the haters hate. It’s not their car, it’s YOUR car.

John Rappleyea yeah that is true. The WRX is more a cruiser that’s comfortable and it’s easier to not wanna throttle and rev high often. Glad you enjoy your WRX
I have a hawkeye wrx now that im building to stage two that i only own 8gs on it but was thinking about getting a new sti for driving purposes. but thank you, im keeping my vehicle and continuing to build!
I feel the same. With the money I saved I could have bought a 350Z and I was about to contact the guy and get it but then I started thinking "sure is a fast car. But This is going to be my daily and what is going to happen when I have to drive off road?" After some time I ended up buying a soccer mom's car (2010 CR-V) But after a month of owning my CR-V I don't regret it that much.
I agree with your points. I could easily afford the STI but I couldn't justify paying that money for the EJ and poor fuel economy compared to the awesome benefits that the FA provides. Yeah I would of liked the iconic Subie rumble but I'm happy with my dual N1s it still produces a nice subtle boxer sound. These cars are meant to be modified and the good thing is that there is such a great after market for these vehicles it's been fun to put together the car how I like it. I'm looking to upgrade to the new STI when it's announced hopefully soon. Hopefully it's moved to the FA platform. Your car looks great. Enjoy it!
VBHB appreciate it and I am too! Rumor is it may be the new FA24 motor with a turbo in the new STI. Should be really awesome if that is true. We will see though but I feel the same way
That new FA20 has a Twin scroll turbo. I drove my buddies, pretty fun car considering its full stock. I probably would buy the WRX over the STI at this point. IF the STI gets a new platform or adapts the FA some how that would be really interesting.
That car man.....dang, love it. I'm a tad late, but what would be the first upgrade you would recommend doing to a new WRX. Thanks for the great video!
I have a few yrs b4 I purchase a new toy. Its a toss up between a wrx ( sti or not, my brother has a 12 sti) or a 370z ( nismo or touring). Still looking at and researching. Love the subies and nissans because of the reliability in each. Love the wrap on your car to. Like i said, its up to each what they want and what they want to do to them. New subscriber here today. From South Florida.
Picking my used STi up next Thursday. Got lucky cause it’s a certified pre owned with no mods and with a 100,000 mile Powertrain warranty. And still has a new car warranty for another year. Love your WRX though!
My dream car is an STI but lately I been rethinking about the WRX just cause its little cheaper, saves more gas and I dont see nothing wrong with the WRX I can always upgrade later to an STI IF I choose but as you mentioned the gas plus I drive a lot and the STI I'd be waisting way more gas then I would on the WRX so I think I'll be getting a WRX 🤗 Also been watching your videos for about a week now came across your channel I subscribed I love the content your putting out keep it up brother 👍
That Vette is sick! I want a Subie as my daily cause I need/want an AWD car for winter conditions & I can't get into 4x4 trucks, a WRX would do just fine for me, if I want fun & power I have my 2013 SS Camaro.
SubZeru, you mentioned the reason for the WRX was the gas efficiency. I'm in the process of purchasing a WRX Limited with the gas mileage rated at 18/24. Can you tell me what you were getting? I'm more curious about the HWY mileage. And btw, this is one of the best vids on the WRX/STI. Thanks!
Pwrbear thanks a lot! I got really good gas on highway. Even going 70 I was getting over 30 mpg and good gas often. Appreciate the comment a lot thank you :)
@@ChristianHudnell No problem, I subscribed with my personal account and now, my YT channel account. It's great content. I have a YT channel and 2018 STi myself. I really see beyond what others do, It takes a lot to do this. Keep it up!
Good video man! Appreciate the honesty. Agree there isn't much difference in a straight line. I like the quicker steering rack and the transmission on the sti. But as a daily the wrx would be better
imo a wrx is better for a daily but if you’re gonna go for power over 375whp just get an STi imo, the wrx handles bolt ons much better than an sti though. All personal opinion
Yeah, I gotcha... people asked me why I bought a lariat instead of a platinum when I bought my new powerstroke.. well I could buy my wheels tires lift and delete for the extra 17 k dollars I'd be out to just get the platinum. Also a lot of people don't realize a f350 platinum is 80k dollars.
With me I couldn’t afford the payments on an STI and the 50k sticker so I had to get the WRX. Luckily I had the extra money to get one coming straight from the factory in Japan instead of one on the lot. Eventually I will upgrade when I have the money but until then I’m happy with what I got.
@@ChristianHudnell you're a scholar. Keep it up. Never seen such a good-looking corvette holy shit, i own an sti(2017) but my next car will be an ls3 camaro or corvette if all goes to plan.
Jimmy's Brother thanks a lot man! I’d say LS3 corvette easy because 1. I love the corvette power to weight 2. Driving feel to me feels more smooth and easier to turn 3. Love corvettes that’s biased haha

Damn bro now you got me reconsidering my decision. Just ordered the ‘19 STI. but. The sti is my “affordable dream car” so I just said eff it why not. What’s your opinion on it?
edward sabb the 19 STI is an AWESOME and amazing car! If you plan on building it up it’s amazing and perfect bro. You will love it. You won’t regret it at all. The STI Is great. Let me know how you like it if you get it :)
Get the STI! I got rid of my 15 WRX and bought a 17 STI. I like the STI substantially better. I’ve had less problems with my EJ than I had with my FA knock on wood.
edward sabb you will love your STI. They are both great depending on your needs. I daily my STI with no issue, I also use it for Autocross. Get a Cobb and a custom tune and you will be more thank happy with it. I’ve own 2 STIs and driven WRXs they both serve their intend audience well. Don’t second guess your initial decision it’s your dream car.
I just bought the kaki grey 19 sti and had a 12 wrx before after this upgrade I will never buy a wrx again in my life. Comparatively the WRX is a garbage car if you plan on modding past stock. Don’t waste your time. Get the sti
I’ve heard for the autos (I believe), I’d you leave it in paddle mode or manual mode it doesn’t change it either that or a company sells a device that you can plug in your obd2 port to bypass the V4 mode keeping it in V8 configuration
hey what are your plans with your exhaust? I know you live in california just curious. and oh yeah congrats on the subscriber gain. been here since 200

Wow since you’re the only youtuber who i found actually replies can u answer me on a quick question if u know anywhere to find a hood and splitter like yours for cheaper?? Everywhere i find is expensive asfff
CheechDiamond hmmm I bought the splitter new but check craigslist or offer up sites. Lots of SUBARU owners part out when they sell their cars. So check on their to find deals
I’m uneducated in this but has anyone ever driven a corvette in the snow? Deep snow? Just asking. Cause I don’t live in California or...anywhere free of snow.
Bro don't be afraid of the trolls. The fact is that all the things that make an sti different are getting swapped with higher performing parts anyways.
I have a question about the color of your car.. is it that Midnight abyss pearl with a clear dip? I got some of that pearl but never got around to spraying it yet. But I also got the WRX over the STI. The biggest reason why is because the WRX is my daily driver and it spools up waaaaay sooner than the STI so there is much more usable torque for city driving. And I just couldn't square the price difference for a motor that is damn near 20 years old. I think once the tuner market gets really comfortable with the FA20, it will probably outperform the ej257 more reliably and still get better mileage. I think direct injection is way better for tuning out knock.
hey, now that you have put the difusers in the car, you should add the flat bottom to actually make it work, its going to remove a lot of dirty air, and overall make wonders to the aerodynamics of the car, its a small upgrade thats worth its weight in gold.
Good video . But had anyone ever ridden the 2019 WRX Limited? I think it’s better than the STI. Just my opinion. Either way the key is it’s WRX and AWD - can’t beat that👍🏼
Intro is perfect. For 5 years I wanted an sti but my goal is to build it up 2 stage to thanks for the point about stage 2 power is comparable. Think I’m going with the wrx!
Never Stop Skateboarding if you want an STI then go for it for sure! :). Especially if gonna be only car. This car is just my daily so WRX better suited for me. But if building full car. STI is awesome to me. Thanks for compliments :)
I’ve been debating for some time now if I want a WRX or the STI and it’s starting to dawn on me maybe I’ve just been wanting the STI because of the name and not because it’s better option for just a daily

Installing a rear sti wing on wrx is like slapping a hellcat badge on regular 392 charger
Bakhtiyar Mamadaliyev not even remotely close
@@bman1668 yea but now you're comparing a dodge with all wheel drive expert engineering. Subaru has beem doing all wheel drive for a long time they are probably going to pull out with of the BRZ since it's not all wheel drive.
I have a stage 3 STI. My buddy has very nice C7 Z06... You can't compare these two. Specially how we use them. He lives in SoCal, nice weather and lots of tracks. Myself; I live in the Pacific Northwest. It rains a lot and it snows in the winter. Having an AWD vehicle is extremely beneficial to me. We're also motorcycle enthusiasts = Great fuel efficiency, speed and lots of fun to ride!
Thats really awesome! Love both of those cars too and they both are great in different ways. Thank you for the comment and AWD cars are so good for bad weather and rainy and cold environments. Love motorcycles and always wanted a ninja or a sport style bike :)
awesome video.. be glad your in sunny California where you don't have to worry about snow and salt damaging your undercarriage every winter.
goodfellapt2 hahaha major facts! I have been in snow climate places before and no fun for sure

Rex N Flex really appreciate it a lot! I’ll do that thanks
I agree with you. I got an STi cuz it will be my only car and more metal instead of plastic parts, and aluminum instead of steel parts. and at 2013 the WRX has a complete garbage fragile 5-speed, where the STi has a bulletproof 6-speed. Bigger intercooler and rad helps with overall temps and slightly less chance of detention. and since I'm not going to mod it, the STi was the better choice for me.
gwot exactly! Before 2015 the WRX was very glass and not strong either
These are the best reasons I've heard from a WRX owner. No BS just facts on why it suits YOU better.
That being said, all (mostly) the reasons why you chose the WRX is why I didn't.. lol
I'm not strictly looking at straight line performance.
Any advice for that ?
Gallo Racing Engine’s that’s awesome man! Really cool. Feel same way.
Advice on corvette. First which mode year C5 C6 C6, which trim and which year corvette? Auto or manual? What are your goals for car
He knows what he's talking about. His is one the best wrx's on TH-cam.
TheSaddix Basically you prefer tech over rawness.

Back here visiting your videos trying to find some inspiration. I find myself stuck on what to do with the 20' WRX. I look at things that I like and then I start to question myself because I don't want to just repeat what I did with the 16' STi. Hope life is still treating you well man.
Hey man! Thanks for commenting, I been away from youtube a few weeks I am sorry. How are things now? Find any inspiration?
@@ChristianHudnell I have found a bit so far. Picked up a Perrin engine cover, fender covers, radiator shroud, strut brace in white and the Perrin intake in black. Also talking to a company about swapping out the pearl white shift knob I bought from them awhile back for one in piano black and they are going to laser engrave the U.S. Army seal on the top of it (shiftsolutions) and then pick up a candy red reverse lockout. I am also looking to get the hood (minus scoop), roof, and trunk wrapped in a larger winter camo pattern.

I love my WRX. Drove a few sti's and just felt like I was forced in race mode the whole time. At least with the WRX and can just drive when I want to
John Rappleyea yeah that is true.

@@ChristianHudnell I got the 2019 sti 😋
I feel the same. With the money I saved I could have bought a 350Z and I was about to contact the guy and get it but then I started thinking "sure is a fast car. But This is going to be my daily and what is going to happen when I have to drive off road?" After some time I ended up buying a soccer mom's car (2010 CR-V) But after a month of owning my CR-V I don't regret it that much.
Raúl Jiménez those cars are really awesome and cool! Love those and congrats and glad you enjoy the car
We will see though but I feel the same way
Buy a civic for fuel economy lol
That new FA20 has a Twin scroll turbo. I drove my buddies, pretty fun car considering its full stock. I probably would buy the WRX over the STI at this point. IF the STI gets a new platform or adapts the FA some how that would be really interesting.
Nick Cost that’s the hope I think. To have a FA24 for the new STI
That car man.....dang, love it. I'm a tad late, but what would be the first upgrade you would recommend doing to a new WRX. Thanks for the great video!
All good! first upgrade easily AOS, short throw shifter, brake lines. You have those you are good

My dream car is an STI but lately I been rethinking about the WRX just cause its little cheaper, saves more gas and I dont see nothing wrong with the WRX I can always upgrade later to an STI IF I choose but as you mentioned the gas plus I drive a lot and the STI I'd be waisting way more gas then I would on the WRX so I think I'll be getting a WRX 🤗

That Vette is sick! I want a Subie as my daily cause I need/want an AWD car for winter conditions & I can't get into 4x4 trucks, a WRX would do just fine for me, if I want fun & power I have my 2013 SS Camaro.
Anthony Coffey thanks a lot! And that’s awesome. That’s route I went with my WRX. Love it and you will have fine for sure
Thanks!

Raaj Arjunan appreciate the comment and for watching respect! The steering on the STI is awesome
imo a wrx is better for a daily but if you’re gonna go for power over 375whp just get an STi imo, the wrx handles bolt ons much better than an sti though. All personal opinion
Brandon Sinclair exactly! That’s pretty much my reasoning as well
I’m planning on getting a WRX but if the 2021 STI gets a new engine I will definitely get that one.
Chad Kennedy yeah man! Cars these days are pricey and we all just value best bang for dollar
With me I couldn’t afford the payments on an STI and the 50k sticker so I had to get the WRX. Luckily I had the extra money to get one coming straight from the factory in Japan instead of one on the lot.
Eventually I will upgrade when I have the money but until then I’m happy with what I got.

Get a Cobb and a custom tune and you will be more thank happy with it. I’ve own 2 STIs and driven WRXs they both serve their intend audience well. Don’t second guess your initial decision it’s your dream car.

Midnight Dusk yeah true but I think a time could adjust that
I’ve heard for the autos (I believe), I’d you leave it in paddle mode or manual mode it doesn’t change it either that or a company sells a device that you can plug in your obd2 port to bypass the V4 mode keeping it in V8 configuration
Midnight Dusk yeah I heard that or something similar as well too!
I really only need a fun daily driver. Only reason I want an sti over the wrx is to puff chests with my buddy and his evo.

CheechDiamond Gotta pay to play.
I’m uneducated in this but has anyone ever driven a corvette in the snow? Deep snow? Just asking. Cause I don’t live in California or...anywhere free of snow.
D E haha I know a few that drive in snow climates now deep snow thought. They like one of worst cars for it. Corvettes for dry pavement haha
Bro don't be afraid of the trolls. The fact is that all the things that make an sti different are getting swapped with higher performing parts anyways.
Jon Liebler very true. Both the WRX and STI platforms after market make them very different with different parts as well
I have a question about the color of your car.. is it that Midnight abyss pearl with a clear dip? I got some of that pearl but never got around to spraying it yet.
But I also got the WRX over the STI. The biggest reason why is because the WRX is my daily driver and it spools up waaaaay sooner than the STI so there is much more usable torque for city driving. And I just couldn't square the price difference for a motor that is damn near 20 years old. I think once the tuner market gets really comfortable with the FA20, it will probably outperform the ej257 more reliably and still get better mileage. I think direct injection is way better for tuning out knock.
Joshua Szeto good points and respect for commenting. This wrap is called Satin Rushin Riptide :)
@@ChristianHudnell I love that color but I think I want a darker version of that color for my FRS. Maybe black metallic flakes

Everyone agrees that sti still have the rumble and nice sounds but wrx have that early boost👍
Richiewrx 15 exactly! HI arts the difference and “everyday driving” I prefer my power instant
