In my book, you’re independent from your parents as long as you’re paying your own bills. Parents helping you is just a blessing, and they want to do it. You’re also not guilt tripping people into helping you.

That being said, I had a petty rough upbringing and a not so great family. I wish I had family to rely on, but I never did. So, I learned to take care of myself. It makes me wish I had family like Tara's. That is all I meant by my comment. There was no judgment either way to anyone. I would encourage you to take a step back for your own mental health. You've seemed to have taken a strangers comment on the internet very personally though it had nothing to do with you. You must be struggling with things and for that I am sorry. I feel like there's nothing wrong with asking for help. We are only human and we can make mistakes. Right now I'm living with my parents because my last roommate got pregnant with a guy i didn't like and the place I wanted to move into isn't ready. They're happy to have me here, but they understand that I'm an adult with my own life to live.

Asking for help, accepting help or just simply being close to your family is not insulting or a lack of independents (I’ve learned this through years of therapy), especially in a global pandemic when lockdowns, quarantine and isolation are realities and causing serious mental health issues for many. Everyone’s life experience is different, I know it’s not always easy or even possible for some, but you should try and look at situations from someone else’s perspective before you resort to bold sweeping statements that could intentionally or unintentionally hurt someone for simply being different from you.

I feel you on the independence thing SO hard... I've worked and paid for my own stuff since I was 14, and now with COVID I haven't been able to work so my parents are helping me out financially, and although I am SO grateful that I have a family that can support me for now, and to be privileged enough to still pursue my studies, it feels so weird... I come from a hospitality background were we rely on tourism and that's just not been happening sadly
