    I have the 2021 version and I love the Advent drivetrain. It only has 9 speeds, but the range is there. It is bombproof, all metal. If you need to tune it, its easy. Recommend it!

      Less gears also mean thicker chain. So it will last more than a 12speed or something.

    Have literally just bought one of these Konas and was great to see your video. Highlights what to look out for etc, will def get cable ties as you suggest. I got 35% off mine so well chuffed. Its from a UK company and they did say before delivery they will ensure its all ready to go out the box, well once you adjust the handlebars and pedals. Heres to many fun days and nights out on the trails.

    I just came across your video, only because I'm looking at one of these bikes on closeout. I can get it for 650 USD after all said and done.
    I already have a Vitus Nucleus, but was wanting another hardtail with 29r's. As well as have an extra bike for friends to ride.
    Thanks for the informative info. You answered some questions I had.

    Just getting back into mountain biking after multiple years in recovery I work on them and can do upgrades myself I want to spend between 400 and 600 I was looking at a couple Diamondbacks like the hatch but I was also looking at this one is there any others you would recommend I want a One by 8 through 10 drivetrain because I do some downhill stuff and I don't do much climbing I don't need a lot of gears maybe 10 total❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ keep doing what you're doing thank you

    Question please. Is this tapered steering tube able to accommodate any modern Fox/Rockshox fork upgrade (what's length do I need to consider in the steering tube)? I want 140-150mm travel. I will also change the tires and brakes and then I think this bike is at its limit =)

    • @thefrothybikeco
      @thefrothybikeco  ปีที่แล้ว

      Modern forks no problem, larger travel will alter the riding characteristics
      Unsure on steerer length sorry, I don’t have any models left to measure this with

    • @seniordaywalker503
      @seniordaywalker503 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@thefrothybikeco Did some research and this will only work if you purchase a matching wheel with a wider hub. Most Rockshox or Fox (boost) front hubs are too wide for the factory wheel which has front Joytech 100x9mm. But in short, the fork will fit the frame.

    • @rocketbass88
      @rocketbass88 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@seniordaywalker503 Thanks for coming back with that comment. I'm also considering a Fox fork and hadn't even thought about the axel spec. That would have been a bummer! I'm still rocking the stock wheels, so maybe a forced upgrade isn't so bad afterall. I've been eyeing a set of those Hunt wheels for a while now anyway.

  • @nazv9
    @nazv9 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Id like to put another fork with a longer travel ... how much is the limit for this frame ?

    • @thefrothybikeco
      @thefrothybikeco  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      140mm max, as you increase the fork length the stress on the headtube can weekend the frame, it will also change the riding feel of the bike to more of a down hill style. the uphills will become tricky as the front wheel will try and lift of the ground more on steep technical trails. hope this helps

    can anyone confirm that a stealth/internally routed dropper system works on this bike? about to buy one and someone suggested just to get an external one for simplicity.

    • @thefrothybikeco
      @thefrothybikeco  ปีที่แล้ว

      Internal on down tube then exits and re-enters seatpost tube above bb
      I have fitted loads of stealth dropper posts to konas and it can be a little bit of a pain getting the hoses through the holes but patience and it’s all good

    • @rocketbass88
      @rocketbass88 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got a 150mm Fox Transfer dropper and you can get it almost all the way down inside the seatpost. I'd say an inch or so sticks up if you put it down as far as you can. I have mine raised a few inches, so that wasn't a concern for me.

    • @seniordaywalker503
      @seniordaywalker503 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rocketbass88 thanks. I also managed to get a Aliexpress 150mm model in there without issue. Cable routing not as clean as I imagined, but fine: cable (from handlebars) goes into the downtube, then exits under that chassis plate below the BB then enters the seat-tube near its base.

    Where can I buy a chain ring?

    • @rocketbass88
      @rocketbass88 ปีที่แล้ว

      The chainring is part of the crank on this bike, so you'll have to get a new crankset to replace the chain ring. Lots of options out there. I went with a Race Face Cinch system (Atlas) and it's great, but there's the unexpected cost of their Bottom Bracket, which was $60. If I had known that, I probably would have gone with a less expensive crankset, but I am super happy with the Atlas.
