      It sure is! I was looking over it yesterday. It's pretty much the same for 2021. They did change the crankset from the Suntour Zeron to a Shimano Deore which is a nice change. Handlebars are now the Nukeproof Neutron V2's, but everything else is essentially the same. It's a pretty sweet red color now though. Pricing did go up to $799 however. Still a good deal, but would be awesome if they kept it at $749.

    Just wanna add a real world review. I bought a very lightly used Giant talon 2 as my first bike and that thing took a beating. I rode bmx growing up. The talon took repeated bunny hops, ledge drops, stair drops etc. I do recommend upgrading to an air fork and getting a dropper seatpost but the majority of the bike was all there and great. I ended up upgrading bikes once i realized i really liked bombing trails but the talon with a few upgrades took A LOT of abuse on the trails. Great starter bike for someone just getting into MTB's or not really sure they want to spend big money. I was really impressed with my Talon 2. So impressed i kept it after upgrading bikes.

    Super helpful video. Unfortunately the Talon 2 in Canada comes with a 2x8 drive train instead of the 1x9 like in the USA. The Rocky Mountain Soul is a great looking bike, but the stand over height is about 1.5" higher than Talon 2, so for shorter riders or kids, it may be something to consider.

    2:09 i ride a bike with coil front and back ,and love it, no need to adjust air pressure, have a shock pump with you.
    if might get annoying so much I had to do it, in the winter, the pressures change a lot, after few minutes bikes is barely rideable, cus the pressure gets so low.
    I am glad I am back on coil after many years way from coil.
    but now I have high end suspension, and not cheap pogo sticks, with plastic caps, dials.

    • @mtbboy1993
      @mtbboy1993 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jeremybrown8933 nowadays with modern frames and shocks you can run what ever you want. most frames work well with both these days, anyway there are tuning options, progressive springs. you are right about the pogo stick thing, a damper is a must have on suspension.

    • @mtbboy1993
      @mtbboy1993 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jeremybrown8933 my fork can be setup to be very harsh, firm, if I want to, just turn hydraulic bottom out control up to max, turn both compressions to max and I have about a rigid fork. 😀 So far 5 flicks of rebound and zero compression, no bottom out control feels fine. I have Fox 36 with Vorsprung Smashpot coil conversion, have EXT Storia Lok v3 shock, lovely, so far if you look it up it seems like the best shock on the market. I haven't tried progressive coils on my bike, nor adjustable springrate coil. I forgot what it's called but it exist for the shock, but for coil only dh springs for downhill forks exist as far as I know.

      I am 181cm and 86kg with all gear on so I haven't looked into light weight rider stuff much. but air is easier to adjust if a rider gains or loses weight fast, like a child can. so one of the reasons msot go for air for kids bike, also it's ligter.

    • @mtbboy1993
      @mtbboy1993 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jeremybrown8933 its defenitly possible to have light enough coil spring, but I haven't dived deep into it and investigated if it really is light enough for that light of a rider. But I love coil setup. But also a good damper and proper setup is nessesary. But I am sure there are Ole ty of options. But I don't have kids so I haven't looked into this as much. You need to know the weight fully kitted out, as the kid would be riding, it brings the weight up significantly I am 72kg and get to 86kg fully kitted.

    • @mtbboy1993
      @mtbboy1993 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jeremybrown8933 fitting a big shock in a very small frame is the main issue like xs frame for people at 150cm or lower a frame that small will require a small shock, an ext Storia won't fit, it has a piggyback. But some shocks had seperate piggyback in the old days elsewhere but required a big hole and securing that elsewhere, not seen anyone do such system these days. Another option is sideways mounted shock, like Pole bikes do, or just go for air. I know Geometron were testing out small person/kids bikes plan was to bring them to market, it did not happen yet. But piggyback did not fit on the xs frame, and xs is much larger than most brands offerings. These bikes have modern geo like mine, I have a Geometron G1, the bikes they downscale seemed to be g15. So similar but different.

    What do you mean by "with clutch"? Sorry, I'm new to this mountain biking stuff I just wanna get to know the parts and terminology.

    • @CobraKyle
      @CobraKyle  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a mechanism on the rear derailleur that keeps tension on it, so it doesn't have a bunch of chain slap when you're riding in rough stuff or hitting a big drop. If you pick up the back wheel on a bike without a clutch and drop it, you'll see the chain and derailleur bounce a bunch. The clutch keeps tension so you'll have less dropped chains, and a quieter bike!

    2:55 Stans no tubes offer conversion kit, that include a valve in the rim strip, the rim strip will make the tyre fit better, and take up the room, seal it properly.
    but if you want to use Cush Core or any tyre insert like that, you need to just have a rim strip and install a rim insert tubeless valve.
    So there are specific products that allow a good conversion, a long time ago I tried the Stans no tubes rim strip tubeless conversion, it worked well.

      Hello! It's mostly due to the front derailleur, but it also doesn't use a tapered head tube. Most bikes today have a tapered head tube (even some cheaper than the Marlin). Not necessarily a deal breaker, but it will limit your fork upgrades in the future should you want to do that, and if all other bikes in the same price range offer that, then I would want that feature.

    why is tubeless tires "better" on mtb? I know on motorbike ofc its better but is it lighter ore is it something on the wheel that makes the bike better?

    • @CobraKyle
      @CobraKyle  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It also saves some weight on MTB too which can be pretty significant on something that weighs roughly 35 pounds. With tubeless you get to run lower pressures which means more traction without the risk of pinching your tube against the rim and popping it. You'll also have a ton less flat tires when tubeless because the sealant can typically patch most punctures quickly.

    hey cobra kyle do you think the rocky mountain soul would be a good upgrade from the giant talon 3, I'm really looking for an upgraded bike to do bigger jumps with and a simpler ride.

    • @CobraKyle
      @CobraKyle  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Josh. I think geometry wise, it would be a major upgrade. Depending on your budget I would recommend a bike with an air fork and thru axles if you want to get into jumping more. Check my other list under $1,200. For around $1,000 you can get a bike with those extra features and will take a lot more abuse. If the Soul is at your max budget, then yeah I think it's a totally awesome upgrade!

    I live in a flat place with pretty flat trails, any bike I get would be nice to have more traditional XC type geometry. Would this make the Vitus a bad choice with its more “aggressive” geometry?

    • @CobraKyle
      @CobraKyle  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Zayd. The Vitus will feel a bit more sluggish than a traditional XC style bike, but it isn't so aggressive that it would be a bad choice. A bit more aggressive geometry is nice (in my eyes) in case you take your bike somewhere else with more gnarly terrain.

    What does "open drop outs front and rear" mean? You said it at 13:23. Thank you in advance!

    • @CobraKyle
      @CobraKyle  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's how the wheel attaches to the frame basically. I talk a bit about the differences between thru axles and open dropouts at the 01:00 minute mark. If you pause at 01:13, you can see that the interface between the wheel and the fork is open. A lot of less expensive bikes use this, but if you can find a bike with axles, they are much better!

    Hi Kyle - thanks for the great and informative video. I mainly do riding around the suburbs with my family, but want a bike to maybe try getting into trail rides (if I ever get time). Was thinking of either the Lava Dome or Rockhopper. LBS has a 2021 Rockhopper for $800 CAD available now. The LBS across town has the Lava Dome coming in April for $949. For the average Joe like me not requiring anything technical, would you take one over the other? Thanks!

    • @CobraKyle

      Hi Seth! I wouldn't recommend jumping these bikes. They come with pretty low grade parts that would probably break pretty easily. I would suggest looking into a 26" dirt jump bike. You're at least getting a fork on it designed for jumping, and you can get a quality bike for around $1,000.

      Hello! I don't think 29" wheels would be too big for you. If you're used to 26" wheels, it might feel weird at first. I wouldn't recommend 26" wheels since they are kind of being phased out. If you think 29" will be too big, look for some 27.5" options!

    Thanks to you Cobra Kyle, I was finally able to get a Vitus Nucleus. I've been visiting the CRC website regularly waiting for them to come back in stock. But I had not checked in a couple of days. Then I saw your review. I paused the video and went to the site. And BAM! The 2021 was finally available!! Couldn't believe it. I went back to your video to read the comments. Sure nuff I wasn't trip'n. Several of you all commented it was back the day before.
    I was kinda freaking out. Wasn't mentally prepared for when the day actually came. Not to mention I had to clear it with the boss. But when I showed her there were only four left in stock, she said I should get it. Good thing too, they were out of stock the following day!
    So because of you (and my awesome wife), I got my VRS in a couple days ago. The bike is great. Just wanted to share my appreciation. Thanks man

    • @CobraKyle
      @CobraKyle  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kevin. It's where the wheel sits in the frame. A thru axle goes through the wheel and threads into the other side. If you pause the video at 01:12, you can see the open dropout. The wheel is placed in the fork then held in place with tension rather that a solid axle running through it.
