  • I'm now six months sober and I can honestly say that it's been the best decision I've ever made. I'm not just saying that because I'm now sober, but because I can see the benefits that sobriety has brought into my life.
I'm more productive, I'm happier, I sleep better, I have more energy and I'm just generally more content with life. I'm also saving a lot of money by not drinking!
If you're thinking about giving up alcohol, or if you're already sober and want to share your experiences, this video is for you. I hope it inspires you to stay sober for six months and see the benefits for yourself!

One of the things that surprises me the most is how much younger and healthier I started looking when I stopped drinking. I feel better, save money, am more focused, active, and productive but also my body image has just gone WAY up which has helped me feel more confident. It's all benefits from where I stand.

I decided to quit drinking on December 30th last year. I'm almost 26 days alcohol free, and I definitely feel much much better. I was drinking 3 or 4 drinks a day, more on the weekends and it started catching up with me. Your story is inspiring, and I plan to take this to 6 months and hopefully beyond.

Thank you for sharing, and God speed to you! 💫I am 45 days sober. My goal is one year. I want to stop for good, but one year sounds more doable to my brain. I didn’t expect so much anxiety but luckily it’s improving. After 33 years of drinking, I knew I had to make a change. I stopped diet sodas the same day I stopped alcohol. I ate and exercised the same, lost about 1 pound the first 30+ days. Recently I’ve subscribed to Dr. Pradip Jamnadas on TH-cam. He’s a cardiologist in Orlando. I have been intermittent fasting and reducing sugar intake as much as possible. I weigh weekly; yesterday I had lost 7 pounds in one week. That really motivates me to keep going! 😊 And listening to people like you is very encouraging. Peace ☮️

    • @jarnard
      @jarnard  ปีที่แล้ว

I'll have to youtube search Dr. Pradip Jamnadas. I like listening to experts talk about the subject of alcohol, sugar, carbs, etc. i've noticed a huge difference in my mood when I tried to stop sugar for a couple of weeks. I feel so much better, especially first thing in the morning. Congrats on the weight loss! how's your sleep? do you feel less anxious yet? have you experienced any mood swings or anything? the side effects varies per person.

This is amazing to me. I have quit alcohol for a little more than 7 months…I did get treatment (easy to stay sober that way if residing in inpatient care where there is no access to drugs). Anyway, I’ve quit doing it the AA way and having support/groups. I know I can’t do this alone. I feel better as well since I quit alcohol. Not one thing has happened to my body, but if I kept going, my health may have deteriorated. I got more energy too and can think more clearly. It’s not easy since I am an *alcoholic*. I think that’s amazing that you were able to quit “cold turkey”…for me it has taken a team as I became a “black-out drinker” and kept at it regardless (behavior of an “alcoholic”). I’m more spiritual now and really treating my body better. I have had more energy and desiring to eat healthy food and drink beneficial liquids like water (if going to an outing that involves alcohol, I can put water/a sparkly drink in a cup so then NO ONE will offer me any booze they are providing-look like I’m “drinking” to make sure I stay safe and not have a slip/relapse). )With this, I have become an “alcoholic” after drinking moderately then for the effects as I had no other coping skills that are healthy.Well…thanks for sharing. Very inspiring to keep going *alcohol free*. 😀🌟👍😃

Day 12 for me. Never felt better. It’s absolutely amazing the difference not poisoning yourself makes. I’m going on vacation for 2 weeks starting next week (New Orleans…I know…we booked the trip before I quit ) and I’m a little nervous about it. My partner still drinks also. But I also have a clear perspective about it…I don’t need it in my life anymore. Years of abuse was enough. I can’t emphasize how good I feel waking up in in the morning these days

I went to Europe for the time and spent almost two weeks in amsterdam. i even did the heineken tour. they had their NA 00 beer on tap, so i was good. but i thought it would be challenging but I actually did great, minus the fact I got sick the last few days before leaving. That’s the thing the first time you go three, six, twelve months with no drinking you realize all the subtle ways it changes us away from being our best selves.
Even a little bit of alcohol a week leads to desperation, lowered energy levels, decrease in neuron generation, and that just to name a few.
Plus I realized how much other people drink when I stopped the first time, people drink a lot more then they realize these days, it easily sneak in. But like you said the benefits of stopping is you sleep better, you eat better, you feel better and you stop craving it after the first 30 or so days away from it.
Keep going my friend, you got this!

Congratulations mate. I did 1 year 7 months then had drinks over Christmas (only had 3 shandy’s and 3 pints).
I must admit, I didn’t feel much change. However, I was never a big drinker unless I went on a club night out with friends (when I would binge drink). Also, I’ve never been a casual drinker e.g. sat at home watching tv cracking open beers.
I think my benefits were more psychological. I’ve proven to myself that I can stick to something when I put my mind to it. This mentality has helped nurture my fitness journey.

Last decade, it's been daily heavy drinking in the evening with die frau. I enjoy it, and it gives me something to look forward to after the day. Oh, and it makes basketball, hockey and baseball a lot more interesting. I never get hangovers, my liver function is where it is supposed to be per bloodwork. I've lost 30 pounds in the last four years. My BMI is "normal". I run 2 miles a day, 5 days a week without fail. The only thing I notice is that I'm a little fuzzy for the first few hours out of bed: I wouldn't want to take a Calculus test at 0800. So there is no terrible downside to my drinking. I'm retired, but it never made me miss a day of work.
Just for fun, we quit drinking for a month last winter. Essentially, I wanted to see if a) could I do it, b) would it be hard. Well, it wasn't hard at all; in fact, it was kind of fun. First week is a readjustment of your sleep schedule because you're not drinking a 'sleeping pill' anymore. I never craved it and on the first day, I knew I could easily do the full 30. In February, 2022, we went back to hard daily drinking. I quit again January, 2023, and I'm in day 2. Piece of cake. A cute former coworker just texted and wanted to go out for a Friday last-minute drink. I had to turn her down. I don't think she'd want to watch me drink water while she was pounding mixed drinks.

I quit drinking over 10 months ago. I'm 44, and I was a high functioning alcoholic. I could go through a bottle of whisky in a couple days while also having a family and a fulltime job. What convinced me to quit was seeing my dad and uncle die painfully of cancer and knowing that would be my fate if I didn't cut alcohol out of my life. I want to be there for my kids, and I want to set a positive example of self-respect and self-care.
I gave it time to think if this was permanent or if I'd be able to moderate and have occasional, social drinks. The farther I get from the addiction, the more convinced I am to never go back. I don't like that aspect of myself, and I don't respect that person I was. I am now able to improve all aspects of my life without being crippled by addiction.
By the way, there was no strategy to quit drinking. Something clicked for me. I had binged for a week on vacation, and I was disgusted with myself. I took the opportunity to also fix my diet when I quit drinking, so the health improvements came quickly and gave me the willpower to keep going. Each new milestone feels like I'm setting records, and I'm happier than ever. My wife and kids love the "new me" too!
    With Love.

It's been 2 months for me. One of the things that prevents me from wanting to drink again is that the benefits of sobriety take at least a month to manifest, but once they do, they're dramatic. Spot on 100% Correct. As you're sober longer---what keeps you sober is the realization that caving even for 1 night of fun----costs a minimum of 10 days to get back to where you currently are. The Cost of going out to party for one night dismantles too many days of sobriety. Once you're sober for 30-45 days---you most likely will never want to drink again. Good Luck.

Great video and all your points are perfectly valid! Went three years sober, got back in to drinking, and stopped again last month because of health reasons and the fact that alcohol use just didn't give the same "euphoric effect" it did in my 20s & 30s, and that was a clear sign that it's over with alcohol. Finding ourselves wondering if we can continue fighting our cravings for it PROVES alcohol is indeed a poisonous LEGAL drug (and marijuana is ILLEGAL, SMH), and that it has some of the same addicting PSYCHOLOGICAL effects as hard drugs (cocaine, meth, crack, etc), that we have to "learn to live without it", when that's precisely how we were born and how we lived up til we took our very first drink. We are learning to fill in our lives with better things (that honestly should've been there all along instead of booze), and we are not simply living "sober", but rather we are returning to our true (and more wise) selves who were fine and functional before we ever first introduced alcohol into our lives. Alcohol is the outsider, and it has no true place in our lives to the point where it takes over our lives (the urges, the cravings, the peer pressure, the media pressure, etc). Truly the most "manufactured, pushed, and dealt drug" in the entire world.

Whenever I was tempted, I remembered that I didn't want to smoke anymore, and my not wanting to do it kept me from doing it, just wanted to quit and be done more than I wanted one. I even kept a pack on me for about two months, and never opened it and eventually just threw it away. This way if some dip shit offerd me a cigarette, I already had one. Cut a lot of toxic people out of my life along the way, and never thought about picking up a cigarette for over 16 years. It felt good to count the days since I smoked for that first year. Every day was one day further away from what I did not want to be, and one more victory for me. It was not to see how long I could go, because that would just be another excuse to go back and wreck all if my progress (I did that too many times). It is a great thing to conquer an addiction, and it takes a strong person to do it, stronger than anyone who hasn't faught that battle will ever know. You should definitely be proud of the progress you have made Sir. Best of luck and good fortune to you my brother👊

I agree, nothing wrong with a few drinks. I drink a 12 pack of beer throughout the day and have a few drinks at night. I don't get drunk or have hangovers. It just keeps me relaxed throughout the day. I'm in good health and work out at the gym 3 times a week

Thank you so much for a motivational video that isn’t a stupid medical science lesson or some corny 20 minute pep talk. This was real. This was refreshing. This was 5 minutes.

Ive found sparkling water helps. I am also buying Liquid Death sparkling water for social gatherings because the can looks bad ass and it will help me to assimilate. I am trying to cut sugar as much as I can by cutting sweets and switching to fruits. Zyn pouches for cigs and weed for depression but that might change in coming months.
