Her performance of Crying at the Roy Orbison tribute brought the house down, led to a several minute standing ovation and truly introduced her to an international audience.
KD sand this song at a tribute concert held in honor of Roy Orbison. You should also listen to her sing this song as a duet with Roy Orbison a few years before he passed away. She was younger but they were fabulous together! ❤
This was a Roy Orbison Tribute night. Various artists came out and sang Roy's songs to honor him after his recent passing. k.d. stole the show. There were many great moments but no one came close to this performance, as is evident by the crowds reaction. That is why at the end, she looked up and acknowledged Roy. Many in the crowd were performers along with members of Roy's family.
I had the very great privilege of seeing Kathryn Dawn (kd) sing this at the QE Theatre in Van. It was breathtaking - we all leapt to our feet as she finished. A truly remarkable singer. Grew up in Consort, Alberta. Go figure.
I’ve heard she made this great song of Roy Orbison’s hers but I’d never heard it. Damn! Damn! Daaaayuuum! That is one of the best vocal performances I’ve ever heard.
kd Lang brings this 74 year old musician to tears. She is one of the greats. This is a great version and performance of this Roy Orbison classic. Polo, great reaction. You have great taste in music. 😊😊😊
The song sounds familiar because it's a classic Roy Orbison song. Funny, I too was thinking of Elvis during this performance. She even looks a bit like him in profile. On a side note, there can never be too many k.d. lang videos. Or Roy Orbison videos. Or Elvis videos.
Since you mentioned that she could sing laying on her back, you may want to check out her first appearance on the Tonight Show where she blew away Johnny Carson while singing on her knees.
I just looked that up and I know I shouldn't be flabbergasted by k.d. at this point in my life lol but-- WOWEE!! --that was incredible!! No wonder Johnny was blown away. Thanks for that recommendation 🤯😍 I need more k.d. singing the blues.
Since I discovered K D Lang, a few months ago, I am obsessed with that voice. Also, she is a wonderful person. I wish she could be cloned. Thank you Katherine.
Her rendition brings tears to my eyes, Orbison's never did, good as it was. Her ability to take a note from soft to ginormous is an operatic method and I'll bet she has training in that genre.
It's so hard to believe that she started out as a country performer. She was such a "black sheep" in that genre. Her entire Ingenue album is magnificent. You definitely nailed it, a voice touched by higher power.
@@conniehiggins3406 What I mean by "black sheep" was that she just seemed like such an ill fit for the genre. I have seen interviews where she said that she felt out of place in the genre. I guess a self imposed black sheep?
You're right, the power of her singing is reminiscent of Elvis. And the passion. Holy crap, the passion. Both had that. Speaking of Elvis, please react to his 1970 Vegas performance of "Bridge Over Troubled Water". You've done Simon & Garfunkel's original & I love it. But you've got to see Elvis do it with that trademark passion. Paul Simon, after seeing Elvis perform it, said "How the hell am I supposed to follow that?". If you do it, please make sure you do the 1970 clip. That's the most popular one & it also gives you an appreciation of his wonderful backup singers. Thanks, Polo.🩵✨️🩵✨️🩵
Her performance of crying at the Roy Orbison tribute blew everybody's pants off!! Everyone and I mean everyone was like "WOAH" wait a minute, who is this lady and "Holy Shit"! What a voice. I was in my early twenties when this happened and for me it introduced me to Roy Orbison as well. I listened to his original version and really enjoyed his style of singing as well!!
I agree with all the posters about kd's natural ability. However - she has worked hard at her craft. She knows how to structure the vocals to blend her talent with the music and lyric, and she knows how to use her movements and facial expressions to further enhance the song. She's a PERFORMER.
Man! When she sings “understand” and the lights flare up around her … perfect voice, power audio and video. I’m watching all the reaction videos and enjoying all of them and the great comments. ❤️💕
She does put you in mind of Elvis, that unbelievable power and the magnificent vocal ability! I would have loved to have seen them do a duet together, I know it would have been AMAZING!!!
She is amazing! This was a tribute to Roy Orbison, who had a huge hit with this in 1961.- I agree with your comparison to the power of Elvis in this! Thank you.
She is one of only a few singers who can do justice to this song. Roy had such an iconic voice and range it is hard to cover some of his songs. He has an extensive song book and wrote the majority of his own songs.
*Such a Canadian Treasure* Thank you for such a thoughtful reaction Polo ❤It's actually funny that you mentioned Elvis, & not too far from real life, because her was quite an influence in her career & singing!
She sings the best version of this song along with a duet with Roy Orbison. Her voice transcends. Smooth like velvet in the low range and powerful in the high range. That last note she does in one breath, where most would take a breath, but not KD Lang. And she is so humble. She is from Alberta Canada, where i live.
I really have enjoyed you reacting to Kt Lang! This human has such a spirit that is so hard to explain, though when in her presence, one knows it is something remarkable, breathtaking and true spirit. She's been around since being a teenager when one of the Roy Orbison discovered her. One of the newer albums "Waterhshed' is more settled in her age. I like 'Coming Home' Enjoy- BTW she is much better in person and yes, barefoot on stage.
At the end, she looked up and said "thank you Roy". She was one of his friends and was a back up singer on his "black and white night" video. I believe he passed away about a year later.
Man, chills all the way through! I've heard so many great songs from this era that I rarely get Goosebumps anymore but this was all the way through. Wow, wow, wow. This is my all time favorite performance even beating David Gilmour's performance at the Pulse concert. I'm sitting here on my bedside in the hospital slapping my knees in absolute bliss. I feel too good to be hospitalized. My endorphins are off the chart. Who needs morphine when you have Mark Knoefler and Dire Straits!
Apparently she was a real fan of Patsy Cline. Her runs, her inflections, interpretation . . .learned from Patsy Cline . . . and, wow, ,man, I never thought of Elvis . . but you are dead on with that. There's something akin to Elvis.
My mama who is now in a "HOME" that isnt her home, LOVED K.D. Lang. This was her favorite cover of the great Roy Orbison, who was mama's favorite male singer. So I'm dedicating this to you mama. I love you to the stars and back 💜
Perfect reaction to this beautifully written song. This was an incredible performance ... chills ...total chills. K.D. is a talent so special, so unique that there are simply no words to describe her range, her tone, her power, her versatility. I totally agree with your comment about Elvis. She also reminds me of Freddie Mercury who, similarly to K.D and Elvis, could pull incredible notes - seemingly effortlessly - from the very core of his being, his soul. I consider myself so fortunate that these 3 are a part of the fabric of my life. Thanks for this one Polo.
You should hear her duet with Melissa Etheridge “You Can Sleep While I Drive”. Nobody else could stand up to k.d.’s powerhouse vocals like Melissa Etheridge.

'Crying' by Roy Orbison, released in 1961. No one sings it like Roy did.
Amazing that I also was reminded of Elvis when she sang based on the opening of her mouth and belting it out-her profile to me looked like his when he opened his mouth similarly to belt parts of songs out. That power and ability for me comes from a deeper place and she is the first woman I can say is equally as humble, gifted and gracious as I felt Elvis was. Truly a soul to be revered, she gifts humanity with her presence power. Thank you for your thoughtful reaction🙏🏻
POLO. k.d Lang was a Backing Singer many years ago on a Roy Orbison DVD called "Black and White Night". Well worth a L👀k The Band contains Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, James Burton (Elvis Guitarist) and many more. Cheers. 🇦🇺🎶🎶🎶🎶
I can’t believe you had never heard KD Lang before! She is great! Very under appreciated!!! I’ve seen her many time perform at different venues and she just blows it away every time♥️

You should definitely do a reaction to Constant Craving….
She sang this song with Roy Orbison. It was his Major song as well as Pretty woman.
@@Leathergirl76 I agree 👍
Constant cravings
Play it.
Her performance of Crying at the Roy Orbison tribute brought the house down, led to a several minute standing ovation and truly introduced her to an international audience.
KD was a international star bef5she even recorded Crying!!!
She just opens her mouth and greatness comes out. What a gift she has and what a gift she is to us.
KD sand this song at a tribute concert held in honor of Roy Orbison. You should also listen to her sing this song as a duet with Roy Orbison a few years before he passed away. She was younger but they were fabulous together! ❤

Listen to Constant Cravings by KD, it will knock your socks off.
An amazing and talented singer and such breathe control and power.
kd Lang brings this 74 year old musician to tears. She is one of the greats. This is a great version and performance of this Roy Orbison classic. Polo, great reaction. You have great taste in music. 😊😊😊
Yes, to this! 👆👍👏🎉
K.D. Lang is a Canadian National Treasure.. 🇨🇦❤ No one has a voice like hers.
Her voice gives me goosebumps every time!!
She can belt without screeching or screaming. That is what makes her superior to others. She uses belting sparingly and in just the right moments.
Her "Absolute Torch and Twang" album is excellent.
The song sounds familiar because it's a classic Roy Orbison song.
Funny, I too was thinking of Elvis during this performance. She even looks a bit like him in profile.
On a side note, there can never be too many k.d. lang videos. Or Roy Orbison videos. Or Elvis videos.
Whew! Talk about smooth vocals. Wow!
Madonna once said about kd lang that "Elvis is alive... and she is beautiful."
Her voice is on point, always.
I love KD Lang this makes me appreciate Roy Orbison even more . ❤
She has a FABULOUS disc of Standards with Tony Bennett!
Since you mentioned that she could sing laying on her back, you may want to check out her first appearance on the Tonight Show where she blew away Johnny Carson while singing on her knees.

She was never a "black sheep.". She rejected country, it never abandoned her.
@@conniehiggins3406 What I mean by "black sheep" was that she just seemed like such an ill fit for the genre. I have seen interviews where she said that she felt out of place in the genre. I guess a self imposed black sheep?
Nobody does this song better than KD and that includes Roy.❤️❤️❤️
Don't be ridiculous.
She is just so fabulous!!! ☮️💙😎
Just pure voice. Nothing else is needed.
Unbelievable voice... such emotion ❤❤😭😭
One of the greatest singers ever. Roy Orbison must have smiled in heaven to hear this.
Her voice is touched by whatever higher power you believe in.
Truth. Thanks for this, with your thoughtful comments Polo.
You're right, the power of her singing is reminiscent of Elvis. And the passion. Holy crap, the passion. Both had that.

She doesn't have to strain....just effortlessly....such a powerful vocalist.
She sang this as a duet with Roy Orbison (it's originally his song). Absolutely magical!
Constant Craving is amazing too and her rendering of hallelujah is amazing as well!
I love this song and it still makes me feel old heart aches regardless of who performs but K. D. Lang is special
Her performance of crying at the Roy Orbison tribute blew everybody's pants off!! Everyone and I mean everyone was like "WOAH" wait a minute, who is this lady and "Holy Shit"! What a voice. Absolutely gorgeous ,, thank you for your reaction
I looovvve her voice and passion she emotes in her song choices

Vocal mastery.

Epic rendition from a Canadian Icon!
She does put you in mind of Elvis, that unbelievable power and the magnificent vocal ability! I would have loved to have seen them do a duet together, I know it would have been AMAZING!!!
Slowly swaying ❤ alone but not crying 😂 at the moment ❤ ✌️ Polo...
The fortune Roy Orbison heard her sing this song he said this is no longer his song is his, it is hers. This was an amazing tribute to a man she loved
Good call on the Elvis comparison. Nailed it.
She is amazing! This was a tribute to Roy Orbison, who had a huge hit with this in 1961.- I agree with your comparison to the power of Elvis in this! Thank you.
THAT WOMAN CAN SING ANYTHING!!! SHE'S A PLEASURE TO LISTEN TO...
she has one of the most beautiful voices. thank you for posting.
I could listen to K.D all day. Her voice is flawless
Chills every time. Beautiful.
KD absolutely inhabits a song! Best version I've heard of Roy Orbison's Crying.
She is one of only a few singers who can do justice to this song. Roy had such an iconic voice and range it is hard to cover some of his songs. He has an extensive song book and wrote the majority of his own songs.
Great song, but if you really want to be blown away, listen to her sing Hallelujah @ The Logies May 2010. You can find it right here on the Tube.
*Such a Canadian Treasure* Thank you for such a thoughtful reaction Polo ❤It's actually funny that you mentioned Elvis, & not too far from real life, because her was quite an influence in her career & singing!

MAGNIFICENT!!!❤
Apparently she was a real fan of Patsy Cline. Her runs, her inflections, interpretation . . .learned from Patsy Cline . . . and, wow, ,man, I never thought of Elvis . . but you are dead on with that. There's something akin to Elvis.
No matter how many times I have heard KD Lang sing this, I get goosebumps every time. True God given talent!!
This gives me chills ....absolutely stunning ❤
She is an amazing performer-goosebumps
She did this song as a duet with Roy Orbison before he died and was also a huge fan of Elvis Presley. You should check out some of her early works
This is so good it still gives me chills and puts a lump in my throat. Crazy talent!
My mama who is now in a "HOME" that isnt her home, LOVED K.D. Lang. This was her favorite cover of the great Roy Orbison, who was mama's favorite male singer. So I'm dedicating this to you mama. I love you to the stars and back 💜

'Crying' by Roy Orbison, released in 1961. No one sings it like Roy did.
True. But no one sings it like k.d. either. ✌
I've loved k.d. lang since 1992, when Constant Craving hit the airwaves🎶
Great reaction, Polo! I’d like to suggest Constant Craving or Three Cigarettes In an Ashtray for your next one with kd lang.
I believe this was from a Ray Orbison tribute concert. She is amazing.
I'm so glad you watched this, it's one of her best performances of it, and what an amazing cover.
Roy Orbison was the first one to sing this back in the day. It was a big hit.

Never clicked on a reaction video so fast.
KD Lange has the most beautiful voice. Everything she sings is excellent
Smooth vocals
Roy Orbison wrote "Crying" with his songwriting partner Joe Melson about his experience with an ex-girlfriend.
Roy Orbison -Crying Original Release July 1961- my favorite, I love Roy!
K.D. Lang the barefoot VOICE
Blue Velvet is a beautiful KD Lang song.
Phenomenal!
POLO. k.d Lang was a Backing Singer many years ago on a Roy Orbison DVD called "Black and White Night". Well worth a L👀k
The Band contains Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, James Burton (Elvis Guitarist) and many more.
Cheers. 🇦🇺🎶🎶🎶🎶
I love when she thanks Roy Orbison at the end. 💙👵🏼☮️
She always reminded me of Liza Minelli. Check Liza"s performance in the musical "Cabaret". I think you will agree. Enjoy your reactions.
Wow is correct.
I can’t believe you had never heard KD Lang before! She is great! Very under appreciated!!! I’ve seen her many time perform at different venues and she just blows it away every time♥️
Yet another great Canadian artist! Talent and hard work!
Yes!! Like the power that came through Elvis! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Great reaction to a breathtaking performance! Thank you!
as the saying goes, she can sing me the phone book all day ;-)
Wow goosebumps
