And THAT ladies and gentlemen, is TALENT. Pure, unadulterated, unfiltered, rich, luxurious musical talent and a vocal ability and performance extraordinarily rare. No stripper costume, no ridiculous stage antics and light shows and fifty gyrating dancers. Just one incredibly gifted human being, delivering a virtuoso performance alone, barefoot, and basically -PERFECT.
Not just a standing ovation, but one from her peers. The Junos are Canada's music awards. She also performed it at the 2010 Vancouver winter Olympics and Leonard Cohen's induction into the song writer's hall of fame.
Oh my goodness thank you thank you for this Leonard Cohen who wrote the song said no one else need to cover this song after k d’s version ❤❤ Crying next please xx k d was born in Edmonton & grew up in Consort Alberta she is a beautiful soul inside & out absolutely love her ❤❤❤❤
I was so fortunate to see her in Melbourne Australia in a small venue in 2010/2011. She was absolutely unbelievable. She does her shows in bare feet and just walks around singing as though it’s nothing, meanwhile we are all totally amazed at what we are hearing, not a sound from the crowd, making sure not to miss one note from her. It was a wonderful experience for everyone there!!
She's our Canadian treasure....Willy Nelson called her 'pipes' and Roy Orbison loved her so much he recorded with her❤🇨🇦 HOW HAVE YOU NEVER HEARD OF KD LANG????
This was Leonard Cohen's reaction. He was there that night and inducted into the Canadian Songwriter's Hall Of Fame. It says it all: "Leonard Cohen's partner, singer Anjani Thomas, in an interview with Wears the Trousers magazine, says that of all the interpretations the famous song has been given, it's k.d.'s she and Cohen see as the definitive one: “After hearing k.d. lang perform that song at the Canadian Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in 2006 we looked at each other and said, ‘well, I think we can lay that song to rest now! It’s really been done to its ultimate blissful state of perfection’. I don’t think I could even try it, because it’s been so magnificently done.” One of the world's greatest voices. Thank you for sharing. It never gets old.
I love Leonard Cohen, he was my favorite poet/songwriter, right up there with Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan and Harry Chapin. Their stories conveyed through song are soul touching and beautiful. K.D. does a great job on this one, her voice so powerful and clear. Cohen was also Canadian/American. He spent a lot of his time in the later part of his life in his beloved Montreal House. He was an outstanding writer and always had the best musicians and backup singers with him. He is a songwriter/musician's, musician. I am in total awe of his work. He performed late into his life doing tours that lasted a year and each performance lasting about 3 hours. He also had a very interesting life and unique outlook on life as well. I miss him so much.
🇨🇦 Canada on Canadian ! Now google K.D. Lang and Leonard Cohen ! Cohen is one of Canada's most prolific and famous writers ! All Canadian female artists are #BadAss like this ! 🇨🇦
Mr. Cohen was asked to sing this epic song at the 2010 Olympics (in Canada).. he declined and recommended they have kd sing it instead. They did so - you should check it out - it’s even better than this version! (IMO)!! Thank-you - great reaction to this beyond amazing artist.
Leonard Cohen said this is her song now, after hearing her version. Check out her tribute to Roy Orbison Crying. (He asked her to sing with him when he re recorded his song.). She started our as a country singer. Her song Constant Craving is another song to react to.
I’ve loved her for decades, no one’s better. I think this is her best performance of this song, it’s just phenomenal! Check out Crying and Constant Craving
Teaches all not to judge a person by the packaging or what they wear. A simple human being, barefoot pouring her heart out! Listen to Crying, by Roy Orbison. She’s fabulous! ,
she always gets a SO when she sings that song, it is forever her song. I'm outside of Seattle and am also late to the k d Lang fan club. The 2020 Vancouver Olympics video is really pretty.
It’s so nice to see people experiencing out of their comfort zone, so many people stay and listen to their own genre, people who don’t expand their knowledge of music will never come to their full potential. Even classical music has so much to give. I don’t know if you have heard of John Farnham, he is Australian 🇦🇺 and out of this world vocally.
I have always loved her interpretation and her vocals. When I first heard her sing this I was spellbound. Listening to it start just now, I got tingles at her first rise in the first verse. Her vocal capabilities are approached by only a few. Her ability to feel a song causes those tingles even though I have heard her do this song many times.
You wouldn't know it from this performance, but k.d. lang got her start as a performance artist. You should see and hear her and her band, the Reclines, transform country western songs into a new genre. With the help of Dave Edmunds of punk legends, Rockpile, they created "county cow punk", high energy polkas, "Angel with a Lariat", "Watch Your Step Polka", "Turn Me Round", and her remake of the Lynn Anderson country pop classic, "Rose Garden".
K.D Lang did an amazing job on this and she has got a beautiful voice. I’ve heard other songs that she has sang and she really does have a beautiful voice. I wish I can remember some of her songs but she did amazing thank you for doing this Prada.
This performance was actually The Juno Awards in Winnipeg in 2005. The only time I have attended the Junos, very fortunate K.D. Lang was one of the performers. Loved it! Thanks for sharing this video. 😊
Welcome to the world of KD Lang. She started her singing career in the early 80's as a Country singer. She has a long list of hit songs and slowly her music has evolved to more than just country music. She does do some covers of other artist's, like this song. She performed this during the opening ceremony for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. I recommend checking that out, even just on your own. That one was even more powerful, in my opinion. th-cam.com/video/tcOQSk_cMO0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=oe8OtJhbxAAxYcEu If you want other songs to check out by her, Miss Chatelaine, Summerfling, Constant Craving, Roy Orbison's Crying to name a few. She also semi-retired in 2019.
KD lang first major album was Tourch and Twang, She's from Southern Alberta! its miss Chat- ter-lain. She's an awesome person and a fabulous performer.
This, but at the 2010 winter olympics, was even better. Also, her MTV Unplugged version of Crying. Can't go wrong with her covers or her originals...always outstanding.
Mr Prada West you feel music and it shows in your handsome face , a lovely quality . I hope I convey the same thing in movement when iam exercising outdoors running . When you feel you feel . ❤X
kd lang used to live here in Vancouver. I saw here hanging out on the drive a few times. I saw her in 1984 at the Railway Club when she was just on the verge of becoming known. I'd heard an interview with her on CBC radio that morning, but seeing her was not intentional and was a very happy accident.
My favorite version of Crying is the MTV Unplugged--a beautiful performance. For some really wild torch and twang check out her live perform of In Care of the Blues on Johnny Carson show.
As a hearing impaired person I have always loved the way k.d. lang enunciates when singing. For many songs I need to listen a few times to catch the lyrics but hers I get on first listen. Karen Carpenter and Linda Ronstadt are others who enunciate nicely when singing. I still enjoy music if I can't understand but this is a bonus that adds to the enjoyment.
She has an album - Hymns of the 49th Parallel ... all songs by Canadian songwriters. It is beautiful. On that album she has a version of Joni Mitchell's song - A Case of You. It is beautiful in an almost other worldly way. It will stop you in your tracks. Please listen to it. And like others mentioned here ... she is very well known for her version of Crying by Roy Orbison
Oh WOWWWW… K.D. is my ALL-TIME FAVORITE female vocalist! FYI to folks, tho: If you haven’t seen it… K.D.’s performance of “Hallelujah” at: THE 2010 OLYMPICS… IS EVEN BETTER than this: OTHERWORLDLY! th-cam.com/video/tcOQSk_cMO0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=C9TE1RrfLiZ7lZpT
My favorite female vocalist. Pleae check out her version of Roy Orbison's "Crying", Patsy Cline's "Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray", or my personal favorite, her rendition of Cole Porter's "So in Love" off the Red Hot and Blue AIDS benefit album ❤
Check her cover of 'The Valley'. It's song written by another Canadian Lesbian called Jane Siberry. The song is called 'The Valley'. I never stop crying. I am not able to.
Hey, fellow Canadian here, on Alberta. You must react to her cover of Roy Orbison's Crying. Either the solo or there she does a duet with Roy. Both are amazing versions
😭😭😭 Every time. This is already a beautiful song, but KD Lang's rendition is transcendent. Have you heard of or listened to the band Portishead? Give their song Glory Box a listen and see what you think. 🖖🏽
k.d. lang (she always spells in lower case) has always done her own thing. She started out in Alberta, Canada as a country singer with a touch of torch singing mixed in. At that time her band was called k.d.lang and The Reclines. They started making it big in the late 1980's but Country Music would not accept her. She wasn't a typical country singer and what made it worse for the establishment was that she was gay, out and proud. She started doing a bit more "torch" singing and has several albums of standards including work with Tony Bennett and Roy Orbison. Orbison's song "Crying" was released by her as a cover and also a duet with him. She has always been underrated but has carved out a career where she never compromised to appeal to the masses and is now better known than ever. Check out some of her early work like "Turn Me 'Round" "Johnny Come Lately" and especially "Lady Chatelaine". Her first big break came with a couple of appearances on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in the late 80's. She also sang at the closing ceremonies of the Calgary Olympics in 1988.
What I love about this performance, even beyond the vocal, was the PERFORMANCE! She enbodied the lyrics. Perfection.

“Crying” a tribute to Roy Orbison. She’s being inducted into the 2024 Canadian Country music Hall of Fame. Well deserved.
Yes definitely so well deserved ❤❤😊
She deserves a world wide induction into halls of fame, brilliant artistn
She hails from small town in Alberta
Happy birthday KD Lang 11/2/55 you deserve a great day.
One of the best singers on the planet.
She sang this at the Opening Ceremony of the Vancouver Olympics 2010. Guaranteed goosebumps.
Better than this one. If that is possible!
The best version, for sure.
@@nancabby I agree
Thanks so much for reacting to this. LOVE k.d.lang! Please do her Constant Craving and her Crying. Both are outstandingly beautiful.

I agree! I'm from the Netherlands and I know K.D. Lang! You can be proud of her, she is a great singer!!
Her tribute to Roy Orbison (Crying) shouldn't be missed.
I’ve always loved her beautiful voice. It’s still as good as it ever was. Thanks for reacting to her.
drove hours to get to a concert of hers, about 30 years ago. she is just astonishing. what an amazing voice and attitude.
This lady is exceptionally talented .❤
This brings tears every time..she’s SO gifted❤Thanks for the great reaction ❤
Glad you enjoyed it

One of the greatest and most expressive singers I have ever heard. Love K D.❤
Love K.D. Amazing singer, Amazing person she's a beautiful person inside n out ..
K D Lang is amazing. Please look for the live performance with her and Melissa Etheridge 💕 "You Can Sleep While I Drive. " Incredible ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
excellent singer.. and so humble, looking so shy as she accepted that standing ovation.
Beautiful voice and just stunning ❤💯

RIP, Leonard!
Check out K. D. Land singing a Roy Orbison Tribute “Crying”. Fantastic performance. 💕💕💕🇨🇦
