I didn't like the Rhys-Davis one, purely because it felt that it fed his vanity.

@@ufc990 yeah, I think Matt is an excellent interviewer, with lots of interesting questions. I felt John used it as an excuse to talk about himself and everything he was doing without actually answering the questions.

@@JoshD667 I did see a bit of that, too. But at the same time he said many intersting things, many humble things as well. Remember, nobody's perfect. On the one hand he might be a bit vain, or self-absorbed, or just enjoying hearing himself talk, but on the other hand I think he can have a really magnetic presence that he lent to his Gimli beautifully.

What a story! It ties into so many other characters' stories.

Horses of Middle earth - that would be a topic I would love to hear about. There are quite a few memorable or named horses, such as Nahar, Rochalor, Roheryn and surely some great Mearas from Felarof to Shadowfax. And another topic maybe - wildlife of middle earth. What animals are there, in the wild? we know about Mumakils, and wild horses, some birdlife we heard about. What other animals mabe mentioned in Tolkien's lore? Any primates? snakes? etc.
    Thanks for a wonderful channel!

The first book I read was Silmarillion, back in the beginning of the 80's. And it was sooooo heavy, and I remember thinking, " my God, everything is just going to shit". I could'nt even se a light in the tunnel. But I read the whole thing. And as I then started LOTR, I found a book that had all the in one, I had a much better background to the story. Thats why Im glad I started with Silmarillion. I had so much meat on the bones when I started LOTR so I think I appreciated it even more. And after that I read The Hobbit and enjoyed it, I already sort of knew the story but got to dig deeper. Thats how my Tolkien saga started.

A good example of how GDT's Hobbit might have looks is to look at the Synder Cut. The Whedon cut looks similar, but they are two totally different animals. PJ's hobbit was obviously extremely GDT's vision as he didnt have enough time to prepare his entire works without using a little of what came before. (you can see a LOT of the set designs in the Hobbit show up in GDT's Trollhunters :) which further shows how the two movies were and are similar, yet different.

The Lord of the Rings set such a high standard that the Hobbit could never even get close to achieving it. There were things I didn't like about the Hobbit, but overall they were still enjoyable. Do keep in mind that the book is suppose to have a different feel. The Hobbit is more of children's story with more fantasy and comdedic elements.
