The fact that the Rings took _centuries_ for the greatest smiths of Middle-earth to devise and complete, speaks to their unimaginable intricacy and power. Yet another thing that the "Rings of Power" series is going to fail to portray properly...
The most scariest aspect is that the One Ring was powerful enough to control ALL the others (submitting their bearers to Sauron's will). He poured most of his power as a Maia into this object. Think of what that means - Melian was able to fend of the forces of Morgoth with her powers, Eonwe lead the host of Valinor. And all of this power is concentrated for one purpose, to control the minds of others. The One Ring is the ultimate tool of domination, the "ultimate machine" as Christopher Tolkien once said. (a "Tolkien machine" being defined as a tool of domination/coersion) So it shouldn't be a surprise that the ring drives everyone crazy with the lust for power. It is truly horrifying. The fact that Frodo was able to carry it for such a long time without going insane (like Gollum or Boromir) is really amazing. Of course, in the end he did give in to the corrupting power of the ring, when he was at his weakest point and the ring was at its most powerful (at the very place where it had been forged).
Those are, in fact, steps. Far wide flat open grass-field, from which either the Rohirrim or the charriots riders came. A bit like the Scytian plains in real life

Fantastic video as always, Second Age Sauron is so intriguing & manipulative! Possible video idea: Mordor in the early Third Age. From Gondor & the Last Alliance occupation of Mordor and its defensive perimeter to eventual withdrawal, and retreat, due to sicknesses & plagues and skirmishes with Orcs, and the very foundation of Barad-dûr not being able to be destroyed after the Second Age, is a pretty interesting story in itself.

About the nine, you mentioned five rings were given to "five other men whose identities are a mystery." I always assumed (probably because of the movies) that all of the nine were kings and lords of men. But is it possible these five were not lords? Maybe just great warriors? Not sure if Tolkien specified or if those five are a complete mystery. Awesome video as always!
No information at all on the remaining five. Three of the Nine were Numenoreans (not kings though, the Numenorean kings are all accounted for), one is Khamul the Easterling. The Witch-King is called that because he conquered and ruled a kingdom when he was already a wraith, we're not told anything about who he was before.

Here's something I've always wondered - was there anything to the east of Sauron's domain? Middle Earth is supposed to be old Europe, with Mordor being the current location of the Black Sea, and the various human allies of Sauron are precursors of the various barbarians and rival empires to Europe. So if one went far enough to the east of Rhun or Khand, would one find oneself outside of Sauron's influence, in some precursor to India or China, battling against the depredations of "westerlings" and the "dark shadow of the west"?
I think i read a story about that. Maybe it was even Gandalf who told it. I dont know if he was only talking about the Easterlings but it is said that some fought against him.
Trying to connect Arda to Earth is not a good thought exercise imo and in J.R.R Tolkien's opinions. For answer of your question about Sauron's influence over east and south, yes Sauron wasn't able to completely dominate these dominions. It's stated by Tolkien that if he were to gather every man from southlands and eastlands forces of west wouldn't stand a chance. (i dont remember for which battle he said it but was probably Siege of Gondor or War of the Last Alliance.)
@@acommoncommenter9364 If it was either of those, it would be the Siege of Gondor. During the final assault by the Last Alliance, Sauron's forces were significantly diminished-he escaped Númenor with a tiny army, a few bodyguards, and his then-physical form irreparably damaged. Sauron's march on Gondor was premature, and you're right-he didn't assemble his whole host. He rushed to Gondor with what he had amassed in Mordor because Aragorn revealed himself to Sauron in the palantír, and Sauron wanted a quick end to the line.
@@MrRyanbtw No. The reason he couldn't gather all the easterlings and southrons were because of the resistances against Sauron among them, Resistances led by each blue wizard(one of the notes states so, in unfinished tales, not cannon however.)

Thank you for putting so much work into this. We may know less about the Second Age than the First and the Third, but that doesn't mean it's any less fascinating.
Also, thanks for including such amazing artwork. I especially love the piece shown at 2:41. Respect to all the artists whose work is featured!
I literlly only bought Unfinished Tales to read more about numenors and their fall! Love that part of the story. Only part that feels to me on par with glory and tragedy of first age.
An extended edition? A man of taste I see.
I love the musical score behind all your videos.
You are great! Haha, ending the video with the ad for the belts was really nice. Great video!! Thank you.
Only discovered your content a few weeks ago and I’ve pretty much watched all your videos - thank you for all of the effort and information on this amazing world !
Danish Gambit.
Imagine getting this amazing story in Amazon's series! They should hire you to make sure the content is loyal. Keep up the great work!
You're doing Iluvatar's work here, my man. Well done.
It possible 5 of them are High ranking Captain or Steward-liked lords. not sure about Sorcerer tho
Yes, quite possible some of the Nazgûl were not kings back when they were Men, but still powerful people in their respective tribes.
@@abelbabel8484 we're told he was a sorcerer right? Not excluding that it most probably is one thing among many of other things he were, or maybe I'm remembering wrong
seriously impressive voice acting! love your videos
Thanks, Corey!
When You Mentioned "Celebrimbor"
All the memories of me Playing Shadow of Mordor/War came back
Great stuff buddy. Well wrapped up and narrated. Thnx 4 uploading this.
I thought the first one was awesome but this one was even better, you keep growing and learning and it shows!
Just give the guy his ring poor guy was an eye for most of his life
This is legit my favorite channel
Can we just take a minute to appreciate the artist for the artwork at 05:40
Love your channel. I am just getting into the LotR ttrpg and these videos really help me with the lore of Middle Earth.
I thoroughly enjoy all of your posts. Your understanding of this very complicated and convoluted story is impressive, your maps and graphics, insightful, and your command of the languages therein, wonderful. Keep up the marvelous work.
Namárië
Super video! I loved how the Blue Wizards made a theoretical appearance!
I swear. When you read the One Ring's inscription in the black tongue a shadow seemed to pass over the sun outside my window. 😳
AWESOME video nerd of the rings! I love that you called it "extended edition"! Very clever. Great video !
Yes yes yes I am beginning to get hyped for the new series!!!
I’ve been diving deep into Sauron recently and his anatar lord of gift is definitely bad ass imagine if we could have saw this form in LOTR hopefully we see him speak black speach in his anatar form and w celenbrimbor in the new Amazon series Sauron is so badass!!
In Shadow of Mordor there's "Shen", a proto-China of sorts that two of Sauron's Nazgul cane from
Trying to connect Arda to Earth is not a good thought exercise imo and in J.R.R Tolkien's opinions.
The ad placement 💀
You sir are amazing
I always liked lotr but your videos Def have Made it one of my favorite fictional universe ever

Third Age will probably come in April or May! :)
@@NerdoftheRings cant w8 it 😁😇
And i also cant w8 the " Sons of Feanor " series 🤭👊
Very well put together and informative. Tolkiens works have always had my interest.
Awesome video man!! Well worth the time it took to re-make.
This really opened my eyes to episode two lol
Great job, my friend. I really enjoyed your story. You did a good justice to Tolkien.😊
First time watching your videos and I must say they are brilliant. Its gives me much more insight into TLOTR. I've watched people's other videos on this topic. But yours is by the best I have come across. Thank you. 🇬🇧
It's only in this video and maybe one or two others that I keep seeing the artwork of ar pharazon holding his helmet and after watching rings of power they couldn't have gotten the casting any better
Better than watching Rings of Power. Appreciate this. 🎉
Great videos bro! Also I'm liking the slide belts.
Look up on TH-cam a video that came out about a week ago. It is called, "The Lord Of The Rings - Unreleased Scenes (NEW 2022 Compilation)". I don't know really anything about it's creator, but it seem like a fan who went through painstaking work to put all "Mithril Cut" extended scenes into one continuous video. It is almost 1 hour and 15 minutes long! Definitely watch it.
