    Fiddles and guitars might give Country Music it's 'Identity' but the Steel Guitar gives it "soul" and to have the greatest player doing his own song is breathtaking. R.I.P. Big "E".

    There have been - and still are - hundreds of fabulous steel players. Yet, close your eyes and listen to 100 of them, and you just know when it’s Buddy Emmons. His tone floats. It’s ethereal. To me, he was in a class of one.

      Ethereal is a good word to describe his playing. It certainly transports you to a higher plane. Like all great art, it has a spiritual component.

    No matter what brand guitar he is playing, or where he is playing....The tone, and sound is the same, there was and always never be but one Buddy Emmons. RIP

      Sho Bud has a unique sound but sooner or later you'll have to work and renew the undercarriage where the Emmons push pull is a walk unto it's own. I use a GFI simply because I have no dealers or instructors within 200 miles and GFI is

    There will never be another pedal steel player with the exquisite taste that Buddy has.
    Thanks to the people who put the effort in to upload these videos and to the copyright owners for allowing their footage to be broadcast..... AND thank goodness for TH-cam, so we can all enjoy the greats all over the world.

      Except Buddy Rich was an insufferable arrogant man who hated country music , he famously said in hospital when the nurse asked him if he was allergic to anything he said Country Music. He didn't survive the operation.....God loves country music. :-)

    I remember Buddy's right foot coming through to work the pedals, next to the left foot. And like he could do anything in his sleep. And after death, he can still bring up my tears.

    Without going into detail, I'm soon to cross that Rainbow Bridge myself, but I take strength from the fact that I saw this 'God' of the steel guitar perform live. I also have his autograph. RIP....

      Yeah, and there is a lot of playing there but Buddy never makes it sound overcomplicated and he never sounds out of control .

    Any steel guitar players in Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Ohio or Michigan should comment below, step forward and be counted. I play this music but can hardly ever find good steel players, and would be privileged to hire you in the future. Thanks very much!
    BTW Buddy's albums w/ Danny Gatton are the most outrageously incredible playing I've ever heard, if you're not hip to those albums, go buy them.

    My father was hugely influenced by mr Buddy Emmons. Check out Gary Holton & Casino Steel with "Goodnight Irene". I think he nailed that one pretty hard :D RIP dad, hope you're playing with Buddy somewhere as we speak.

    Does anyone know where I might get my hands on any of Laney Hicks' CDs? I understand that she recorded 3 different CDs, but I can't find *any* of them in the normal retail channels. ???

      @@1krazykaraokegranny Yeah, but those are mostly just singles and/or misc stuff that she did with Charlie McCoy. I know that she released 3 complete country CDs of her own: The Last Letter, Matters Of The Heart, and A Tribute To Connie. I've got "Matters Of The Heart" but I can't find the other 2 anywhere. A good friend of mine managed to find a few random tracks from each of her 3 CDs, which he provided me with copies of, and they're terrific. Sadly, they only cause me to want even more!! ;-)
